Strength:

drive, comfort

Weakness:

safety, goes through brakes too quickly, faulty connection in lights, burns bulbs quickly on headlights, turn signals, brake system faulty requtiring three different sets of rotors.

Volvo has a nice ride and seems like a great car until the brakes start wearing our starting at 15,000 miles. Brakes wear out too fast leaving me feeling unsafe. I have replaced my brakes every 4-5 months since 15, 000 miles. I am about to go in for another replacement tomorrow. The brakes grind when they start to go, very dangerous! Major grinding and roughness when rotors wore out. A Volvo representative who came to look at my brakes after they failed, told me that rotors should not have to be replaced before 50,000 miles. I have had three sets of rotors and Volvo does not give me any satisfaction. For a company that prides itself on safe cars, they are not caring for my safety! Volvo may have the best air bags, structures to guard against injury, etc., but good, relaiable brakes are vital for safety!

Mitsubishi, Toyota 4Runner Vovlo may be more cushy with a better ride than Mitsubishi MOntero but brakes lasted at least three years in both and no rotors had to be replaced until at least 4 years.

Strength:

For me: Looks, comfort, options, handling, safety

Weakness:

Price tends to get up there when you load one up - over $40K

My overall impression of the V70 XC is very good thus far. I haven't had any recurring problems that I've read about elsewhere as of yet. Love the handling and comfort level. Its a far cry from the 99 Grand Cherokee Limited I used to drive. I'll keep the post posted about any quality problems such as brakes, alarm system, and other areas that I've read on.

Strength:

Very comfortable on long trips. almost no wind noise. Extremely safe. Volvo claims this is their safest car ever designed. ergo interior. great storage space.

Weakness:

substantial problems. poor dealer service-inability to fix problem. poorly designed 4wd. if you blow one tire, all have to be replaced. the tires must be within very tight parameters for wear, so as not to ruin the 4wd system and be faced w/ a $4k repair bill.
window controls are very touchy. engine could use a little more power, though what it has is generally fine. looses almost all of its ground clearance when the car is loaded down.

This vehicle has been a disapointment from day 1. We have had numerous electrical problems and the left front turn signal repeatedly and intermitantly fails causing the side and rear signals to flash rapidly. The dealer keeps replacing bulbs, but this does not seem to help for more than a few months. We have also had problems with the windows, sun roof, and keyless entry. I wouldn't recomend this car to anyone.
