Strength:

The best car i have ever driven. Its blisteringly fast. Amazing looks. Looks far better than the regular 330Ci. Wheels are huge, and looks amazing. Seats are extremly awsome and supportive. More comfortble than the regular 3-series coupes, with its nappa leather, and optional side bolsters (that move). Build qulity is extatic, and feels solid. Handling is beyond belief, and where this awsome car excels. Drive one and youll unerstand....... Oh yes and the quad tips look great too. Also more expencive than the last, which makes it more exclusive. ///M power!!

Weakness:

None, long waiting lists are a good thing! the more you wait, the more you want it! and the more exclusive it is.

This is one of the best sports/GT cars ever made!!! i urge you to test one, or just buy one! Attention to detail is amazing. Even the 6-speed shifter lights up! Mine has all options. Navigation is great. Xenons light up the road like nuthing else! I have Silver on black. It looks awsome, although any color would do. Ive been asked about it 100 times in a month! everyone loves it. At full throttle it sounds amazing. Brakes are beyond belief. Stops on a dime. As good as Ferrari 360 modena. I can't stress enough how great this car is. If you have any questions e-mail me at Slexis200@aol.com Im glad to take all questions, and discuss this amazing car with you.

Corvette - Great power, but doesnt feel close to this german jewl. Trust me that extra 0-60 on the vette is NOT worth it. This feels far better, and can hold 5 people.
Porsche 911 - great but costs nearly 30 thousand more loaded. Not as fast. Some say doesnt look as good. Its a great car though if you have the money to throw around. Also 4 wheel drive on the porsche could be usefull during the winter.
Qvale Mangusta - Ha!!! get the ///M3 !!!!!! and save 30k
Acura NSX - Great but not as fast, and far more money. Handles amazing.

///M3 is a better deal than anything! get it and you will understand! ITS THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE

Strength:

Handling, Handling, Handling (except for a bit of understeer) Smooth power delivery, brakes, gearbox, even manages to be comfortable.

Weakness:

It could use a "sport"(ier) suspension package option for those of us who want to be reminded that we are in a sports car. Also, Euro drilled rotors would be nice (at least Bayerische Motoren Werke didn't neuter our engine this time.)

The E46 chassis //M3 is the closest thing to automotive perfection ever built. It trounce a 911 around Nurburgring and then carry 4 other passengers home. Upcoming SMG II gearbox should put it in a class alone although I have not yet sampled SMG II. Tough to beat at any price, let alone the ~$50k.

Strength:

As a total package its one of the best cars on the road. It has looks, power, and handling. An all around great car. So far I have not had any problems with it at all.

Weakness:

This car should have had more power. The Euro version has about 80HP more than the US M3. The new US E46 M3 has pretty much the same power as a Euro M3 had 4 years ago. Thats a shame, I think the US market was short changed with the E36 as far as performance is concerned.

I absolutely love this car. The first night I bought it I slept in the back seat. For anyone who really likes to drive a car the M3 is heaven sent. It has great pick up but its a more complete car than that. Its stiff in turns and corners. the car sticks to the ground like its on rails. There are cars out there that can out perform the M3 but you'll have to pay 20-30K more for them. My only wish is that BMW would have sent over the Double Vanos Euro version to the US. Other than that the car is flawless. The M3 is in a class all by itself. If you have the means I highly recomend picking one up.

When considering which car to buy last year, my list also included the '95 RX-7, '95 Supra Twin Turbo, and '93 NSX. I came away with the M3 and havent looked back once.

Strength:

Well, I've had it for about 4 months, and it's been a JOY. I WANT to get up at 6 in the morning to drive it. Great everything.
Back seat is enormous for a car of its size.
EXCELLENT SOUND SYSTEM (harmon kardon 6-disk changer w/ 10 speaker)
Beautiful convertible mechanism.
Convertible does NOT greatly affect trunk size due to plastic rear window (though the plastic nonetheless is a weakness)

Weakness:

Needs the window-switches for the backseat (as opposed to having them all [5] in the front and none in the back).
BMW Technicians are very nice, but also incompetent. Had to make 3 trips to address a "check engine" light. Waste of time.
Car's climate control is too complicated - for cold air, you have to know to set the temp to 60 degrees AND touch the "snowflake" button.
Plastic rear window ... (trunk space amazing)

Still a joy - can't even imagine what a 333 hp M3 would be like.

The pure power, which is a vailable from key-turn, the sixth gear - what a bonus, couldn't do without one now, also the build quality - second to none!!!!!

Weakness:

Cost of running!!!!!

When I first got the car, I thought that from what some of my friends had told me, dont know whether it was jelousy, but I thought that id made a big mistake - but how wrong could I of been, its truely unbelievable, the power, and the looks of it, pure genious!, big praise goes to the designers at BMW!

Weakness:

CRAP shifter
CRAP reliability
Sold as a sports car, is not
NONE OF THESE ARE FIXED IN THE NEW MODEL
Side skirts fly off at speed

This car is horrible. BMW is known for boring out engines and making a few mods to an existing design without upgradign component quality, leading to catastrophic failures. I sold mine after 27K miles as it sounded like marbles bouncing in a tin can when started.

The shifter mechanism is plasticish and junky. You cannot tell what gear you are in. This shifter belongs in a Yugo. If you own an M3 and just have to keep it, buy a shift kit.

I'd much prefer the 330i over the M3. The 330i is a wonderful car in comparisson (ie it does what it is supposed to do in style). The M3 is boy racer trash only one step above suped up Hondas

I am posting this now because a friend had purchased a new M# and the engine blew. This car sucks, period.

style,acceleration,handling,brakes,value,dependability,FUN.FUN.FUN. With this car you can really take the meaning of "take the long way home". Also, Its could consider as Pimpmobile as well.
Lots of after markets performance products if you have the $$$$$. Recommend all Dinan products if you can afford.

Weakness:

Too plain looking compare to other E36 Bmw. Front kidney grills are plastics(mine fell out twice already). Fix steering wheel, no glass shade sunroof, extremely dusty brake pads, original Michelin Mxx3 too noisy and unsafe in wet weather. Also way too under power as the Euro M3(try 321hp with double Vanos)

This E36 M3 probably the best car that I had ever owned. Recent mods includes Dinan Stage 2 full suspension, Stage 4 Dinan chip, Dinan throttle body, Dinan cold air intake, Dinan air flow meter, Dinan exhaust, and brand new sets of Bridgestone So2 Pole positions tires. This is pretty much of the full Dinan S1 car. Extremely very happy with the result, but I started to worry about speeding tickets now.///M3 Rules.

Strength:

PERFORMANCE: Incredible. Smooth, powerful acceleration. 0-60 in 5.4s. Hits 90 just on onramps. 60-0 in 116 feet. Surreal brakes! Unparalleled passing power. Not enough O's in smoooooth to describe this engine. Handling is simply out of this world. FUN FUN FUN.
STYLING: M3 touches are beautiful. Ground effects look great!
INTERIOR: Super-comfortable seats that offer incredible lateral support (especially the M-sport seats). Harmon Kardon sound system w/ the 6 disc CD changer is incredible - clear and powerful even with the top down! Trip computer is cool, dual-zone climate is very useful, list goes on and on. Surprisingly amount of back-seat room. Even the plastics feel great. FANTASTIC ergonomics.
QUALITY: The finest. BMW engineering all around. The convertible top mechanism is really great. Defroster is very effective and the plastic rear window is clear - defroster also works great on that window! NO EXCESS NOISE even at 110+ MPH in this convertible!
VERSATILITY: Great! Coupe quiet with top up, fun with top down. M-spec suspension and performance, but can be driven like a docile sedan.

Weakness:

STYLING is great looking, but too reminiscent of the regular 3-series. It has some subtle differences, badging, etc., but it needs more to be THE M. OEM Rear wing ($280) will look great.
PERFORMANCE is so good that it's gonna get lots of speeding tickets. $400 for a Valentine radar - they'll even pay your first ticket if you get one with the radar.
INTERIOR is a little bland. Aluminum or carbon fiber would give it some character. Still looks nice. Too many buttons for its own good.
CAR gets a lot of attention. Built-in alarm protects from theft, but not those jealous keyers.

Highly recommended. Under $55k, nothing can beat it. At any price, NOTHING can compare to its practicality and versatility. Behind the M5, it is the best handling car in the world.

It's a whole lot of fun for a price that won't break your bank (compared to its competitors).

Similar Products Used:

1998 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 2 Cabriolet - A very fun car, but not as practical. Definitely has the engineering, the styling, the performance, the quality. Just practicality issue :( I'm still getting one :)
BMW M-roadster/coupe - Fun but even less practical than the Porsche. Too small for my tastes - slightly overdone styling.
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - Best Vette ever, but who's crazy enough to buy a car from GM?!?!?! Just being an American-built car is strike one. Just being GM is a strike OUT.
M3 coupe - An excellent car. I opted for the convertible for its versatility. Can get a hardtop-shell too.
Mercedes Benz 500SL - not a sports car. A high-luxury coupe. No fun in it. Great cruising car, however.

Dictionary Definition of 'M3': Fast; Agile; Power-Packed; Don't think about racing; 0-60 in 5.3 sec out of a inline-6 3.2 liter engine; Handsome Professional looks with a devilish heart.

Weakness:

CAUTION: Can cause permanant paralysis in shape of a huge grin on your face after going from 0 - 60. Is known to make your heart skip a couple beats. Never wanted to drive slow enough to say "hi" to the women scoping out the car on the road.

Ok, heres the scoop. If all you want is "power without control" to show-off to your buddies and show to the world that you have no real taste in sports cars, buy yourself a Camaro/Mustang/Firebird. I have heard from many people "..that M3 is too slow for me, I'd rather get a RAM-AIR Firebird..", well as for those people, , good, stay with American cars which break down after a couple years and lose a big chunk of performance everytime you "try" to smoke an M3 from the light. This car is for the sports car enthusiast who is willing to understand that a sports car is something which is very well rounded off in all categories (Handling, Power, and Feedback). I can easily compare this car to a Ferrari, because a Ferrari is very well rounded off. Also, if you want something that will leave half your tire on the road during take-off, consider a Corvette, we have no space for you here. With point and shoot technology, the M3 takes the sports cars of today to a new level. With my passion for this car growing everytime I see it and drive it, I just couldn't resist starting up a website which will share it with the deprived (Camaro/Firebird/Mustang/Other crappy american car owners), if you have time, check out www.bmwexperience.com at your lesuire. I didn't mean to call people driving Camaros, etc.. idiots for buying their cars, its just that they have bad taste in sports cars (wow, sounds like another slap in the face). Thank you for your time =).

The M3 car is probably the best all rounded car you can purchase. 4 people, luggage and 135 mph!

Weakness:

no tilt, manual seats, front end bottom shield, replaced about 8 times so far :(

Back in the day, just like today, i was on the L-o-n-g list of folks for my M3. flew out to LA to pick up my Cosmos black 2 dr Blanca (I name my cars) I actually drove it back, nearly 19hrs and was not bored as i arrived back in Dallas! but the G/F and i broke up soon after :( Driving too fast...Did someone say BREAK IN??

This is a very well rounded car, the first thing i did to it was take out the air box, get an open element air filter, very low $$ good sound, Xtra hp! the rims stayed on the car from 7-95 till 10-2000! the 10 spoke, motorsport.. Good rims, but i hear most of them bend, break, etc... well if you hit pot holes, what do you expect.... they were nice, but a $hit to clean... My car has 210,000 + miles on the clock, the 100,000 warantee was done long time ago, but have a good machanic handy, you will need him... the front spoiler will give probs, cus it is so low... that is a minimum price to pay for the fun factor that i have gotton out of this car... my buddy just bought and S4 Audi......can i tell you haw bad i felt beating him in plenty races! my car is OLD YELLA, but still kicked is butt! I have ordered a new M3, i will keep you posted on the result of that car.. and i will keep my other M3....

Good car to own, Get's lots of respect on the roads, pick up a used one pretty cheap, but great as a daily commute car.... I love the product, might not ever go back to Porsche...maybe the NEW 911 Turbo.... NAAAAAA!

You have to love it ///M3.
