MDX
Strength:
Car-like ride, 1st and 2nd row roominess, I happen to like the exterior look, 17" wheels, turning stability,
Weakness:
Fake wood inside (I'll pay he extra $ on sticker if they put wood in 2002), wind noise over 60 mph (common on SUV's), roof rack should be standard and parallel to front/rear rather than side to side which increases wind noise. Rugged off road capability (not a concern of mine) Ordered 2002 since 2001 couldn't be delivered until August anyway. I've been given a november delivery estimate. Best family vehicle I found. Smooth ride and handling plus luxury for adults. Spacious for kids and cargo. Standard equipment is impressive. Although you pay sticker, no need to add any options or accessories since it comes fully loaded. Rear mud guards and roof rack I'm adding if they aren't standard on the 2002's. Only 4 stars because I have only test drove so far. Similar Products Used: Tested RX300 and ML320 and ruled out quickly due to small size. I want a full size SUV. BMW too much $. Sequoia was main competition but MDX had more standard equiment, nicer ride and better value. Will also probably retain value better. Also tested GMC Yukon. Wife thought it was too big and not as "smooth a ride". I agreed with the latter. Also considered Audi all-road, but 9K more money and still don't trust Audi after 4 year warranty expires. I plan on keeping vehicle for 6-7 years. |

Strength:
This review is after a test drive so take it for what its worth. Just finished test driving the car(Touring model) at the local Acura dealer in the rain. Strengths noticed so far:
Weakness:
- kept hearing complaints about wind noise and I noticed some but nothing more than what I had on my 98 Jeep GC plus if you play the stereo loud like me you wont notice this Im pretty set on the MDX, just waiting to test drive a RX300 and a Highlander to perform my due diligence. Unless the RX blows me away Im pretty set on the MDX so far. I can get it for 37000 after everything(taxes, fees, etc) for a base model and thats with the dealer charging full MSRP, and no dealer fees. No hassling with the dealer like I'll have to do for the RX300. I'm serious when I say that the Touring model is a waste of money, save it for the navigation if you really need it, or like I said just spend it on your own customized stereo system. Similar Products Used: Test drove a GS300 and I have a 98 Grand Cherokjee coming off lease |

Strength:
Well-appointed, lots of room, reasonably priced compared to the competition.
Weakness:
The rear-center seatbelt (comes down from the ceiling) is distracting. Took 10 weeks to get it, but I hear that's not uncommon. We were looking for a luxury sport utility but weren't eager to overpay. The MDX had all the features we were looking for as standard equipment and then some. The touring package seemed overpriced for what you get (we had the dealer add a roof rack for $300) and we have no use for the navigation system. The car accelerates quickly, handles nicely, the interior room is very good and the kids love to blast CDs and drive with the sunroof open! The Volvo X-C was the only other one I seriously considered. It seemed sparsely appointed and the delay for the turbo to kick in was annoying. I think it is a good value because the other companies seemed to nickel and dime you for everything that comes standard in the MDX, particularly the things we wanted like a third seat (if available at all), sunroof and cassette/CD combo. All in all, a good car for the family looking for some room in a well-appointed SUV. Similar Products Used: Looked at the Volvo X-C, Sequoia (too big), Highlander (not a luxury SUV) and the ML 320 and RX300 (charged extra for everything). Currently own a Durango too. |

Weakness:
None I guess I walked into the dealer at the right time, but I got mine in two weeks. I couldn't choose color or options, but silver was fine with me, and I really didn't care to have nav or touring package. However, I got stung with $2600 worth od dealer added options. The Acura web site has MSRP of these at $1400. Wooden shift knob-MSRP $93-I paid $193. Pretty slimy of the dealer(Inskip in RI). I'll go elsewhere for service to avoid a $1000 oil change! Strength:
Interior volume, Japanese made - reliability, power is better than appearance would let on, price
Weakness:
Looks - it doesn't appear to have any more ground clearance than any other minivan, from the driver's door back it is a MINIVAN, high speed road noise overall quality of components - below the skin deep appearance, I kept coming back to this car because of price but I think I made a mistake it really feels like it is only good as long as a test drive would let you determine. After 45 days now it feels like I bought a picture that the real thing doesn't live up to. Hindsight says the X5 and the Lexus are much better for long term soundness, I'm not just talking about reliability I mean long term solid feel and value. Strength:
(almost) everything standard that the OTHER luxury SUV makers "optionize". Excellent handling. Looks sexy and draws many longing stares.
Weakness:
Quite a bit of wind noise above 60 mph. I guess I'm lucky compared to most everyone out there. Test drove the MDX on March 3, put down my $1000 (refundable) deposit March 6 on the base model (granite green), was told it would be delivered by the end of March (4 weeks). The salesman called on March 26 to tell me it was here! *&&$$%%%## weatherman warned it would rain all week in the metroplex and I wanted the weather to be perfect when I picked it up so I postponed the trip to the dealership until Saturday March 31. Touring/Nav
Strength:
Nav system, ride, mpg, 240hp, interior features.
Weakness:
Availability. I got mine sooner than I thought I would (2 month wait) only because I bit the bullet and accepted some options that I normally wouldn't want or need. After five weeks this vehicle hasn't disappointed yet. The NAV system is just terrific. The ride is superb and very quiet. (Quieter than my '88 BMW 735i.) It's my first SUV because I had refused to buy one until one with good mpg become available. This one consistently gets 20+. No rattles, squeaks, or clunks. Well made vehicle. Similar Products Used: I also drove a BMW X5, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Forerunner & Sequoia. |

MDX
Strength:
Price, drive and handling, reliablity of Acuras, comfortable seats, inside space and third row seat for seven. 10 cupholders!
Weakness:
Some wind noise at 60+ mph on windy days. Rear hatch really needs to be slammed shut hard. Have had the SUV for only one month, but really like it. No issues other than a squeeky wiper blade. For the money, there isn't a better SUV in this class. Did not buy another RX400 as they were $5000 more, comparably equiped. The RX ride is a tad bit softer and quieter (I had to go back and forth between the two several times to make that determination), but the MDX has a much bigger interior and still has better acceleration and handling. Love the rear seats, perfect for trips around town when we have the kid's friends or grandparients. Similar Products Used: Lexus RX400 (owned), demoed 2001 Explorer, BMW and Volvo Xcountry. This is my third Acura vehicle and never have had any issues (unlike every American car I have owned). |

Strength:
Comfort, handling, spunky for SUV, *SAFETY*, features, room, ultra low emissions, 23 MPG, Honda reliability, damn fine lookin'
Weakness:
uh? All around, there is nothing on the market that can touch it. But if you want to tow heavy loads or do serious offroading, get a truck or a jeep. With its wide track, 5-star safety rating, and unparelleled reliability of Honda, the MDX is an easy choice -- except for those who seek the pure snob appeal of the BMW/Benz. Though insurance institute testing has yet to be done on the MDX, the Odessy (on which the MDX is loosly based) scored 5 stars. Honda predicts the same for the MDX -- they have always been correct in the past. The MDX does not pitch and roll like other SUVs, but rather it feels extremely sure footed on pavement and snow. The Nav system is probably the best in the industry (Lexus new one is similar). If you have an open mind (read: no german addiction) this car is an easy choice. If you like to tow the big stuff, though, get an expedition or a Land Cruiser. If you want to do serious rock crawling, get a Jeep wrangler. If you want a versitile, real world UV with uncompromised safety and reliability, look no further than MDX. Similar Products Used: Looked at Lexus, BMW, Benz, Ford. Each seems to offer something the others don't. But the Acura had all the bases covered better than the others. |

Strength:
Strong, Quick, Handling(for this large a Vehicle), Roomy, Functional, Quality of finish, Dealer Service, Great fog lights, 3rd seats(which was useful when needed). And finally, PRICE.
Weakness:
I had to wait 2 1/2 months for it. No auto lock. Some wind noice. After 2 months, it's been very good. I had a noise from the headline and a dealer (not the original) took it and fixed it and gave me a loaner car too. Service was excellent. My dealer was very good to me also. I didn't like the wait but the MDX is too hot. Similar Products Used: RX300 - MDX a better SUV. The MDX is FORCING the RX300 to be heavily discounted. |
