BMW X5 (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The X5 represents BMW's first foray into the popular sport-utility-vehicle marketplace. Billed as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" by its maker, the X5 is designed to handle like a true BMW. The redesigned X5 is longer than its predecessor and features a third-row seat that is best for kids only. The ride is still stiff and choppy, but handling is capable and secure. Both the six- and eight-cylinder engines are powerful. The shift lever and iDrive driver-interaction system are both needlessly complicated.

Strength:

WHEN there's no hesitation.....it does drive very nicely and is very comfortable!

Weakness:

besides the above....NO SPARE TIRE! Not even one of the small emergency tires!

Car drove gret for approx 2,000 km. Then SEVERE HESITATION problems that over the course of the next 9 months caused me to have 7 or 8 NEAR MISS accidents that would have been 100% my fault! These near misses (Broadside or rear end collissions) were avoided by the diligence of the other drivers involved and were caused by my X5 engine severely hesitating on acceleration. It's like you push the gas pedal expecting to accelerate and there's a 1...2...3...4....sometimes 5 second delay! The dealer kept saying that the onboard computer was "learning" how I drove and was reacting to my driving habits! CRAZY!!!!! ANY vehicle that reacts that way should be banned from the roads! Thank God for the other alert drivers on the road who could avoid my virtually stalled BMW!!!! After almost a year of complaining to BMW Canada they finally agreed that perhaps my 2007 X5 3.0 was a lemon and they replaced it with a brand new 2008 X5 3.0 at no charge! I was impressed but disappointed at the length of time they took to correct the problem.

So.....my new 2008 X5 3.0 drives great....DROVE GREAT for maybe 5,000 km.... SAME HESITATION PROBLEMS are back!!!!!

Back to the dealer (different dealer) and the head mechanic said that "yes we are experiences this problem with some of our X5 3.0's!" Supposedly a "computer problem"!!!!!

I worked hard to save money to buy my "dream car", paid cash for it and this is the product that I dreamed about?!?!?!

We'll see ehat happens but perhaps I should have stuck with my American built car? No hesitation problems there!!!!

Strength:

Handling, power improved than last version.
Good MPG. Excellent Braking. MP3 can play on CD. Backup Camera is useful than last version.

Weakness:

3rd row seat is crappy. If you are looking for 7 passenger seat, don't even think about it. 11yrs my son even can't sit.(I think good for just 5) Basic sound system is pathetic.

So far so good about 11months. I'm long commuter with HWY and estimate MPG around 20~21. (DS shift with some funs came out around 17 but it was worth to fun drive. lol) Voice recognition delivered wrong function sometime but keep trying for hand free.

good looks

Weakness:

unreliable, a computer controls everything and software meltdowns shut the car down completely. only buy this car as an extra ride b/c you will need a back-up. And when it does meltdown, you cant do little things like put it in nuetral, remove the key, etc. Just for fun, the "roadside assistance is AAA so get ready to sit in a dead car for hours.

Broken down before the first oil change! 3,000 miles and in the shop for days - due to the notoriously bad i-drive system's on-going failures. I'm going to look to dump the car after 11 months - the biggest disappointment of a car I've owned.

Nice Looking car, great driving experience and roomy.

Weakness:

The only weakness was SERVICE AT INSKIP-WARWICK,RI -BEWARE THEY WILL BRAKE IT AND MAKE YOU FIX IT!!!!

I do have to start by saying that I love the X5, the salesman, Scott Thompson at Motorwerks BMW was fantastic. Other than a few minor things I have had great luck with the car. The only problem I have encountered is the service. I relocate a lot with my job and I bought the X5 because of the warranty and the fact that you could have the car serviced at ANY dealership nationwide. I have always had good service EXCEPT while I was living in Rhode Island. DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO INSKIP in Warwick!! I had my oil changed at this dealership and the technician over tightened the screw to the oil pan and BROKE off the bolt head. I had no idea because it was not disclosed at the time of service. I have since moved to Washington state and upon getting my oil changed again the technician found this horrific problem. All in all I am stuck with a broken oil pan due to a technician error and I have to pay for the damages!!! I have spoke to BMW North America and they wanted NOTHING to do with me or my issue, EVEN though it was trained BMW technician that caused the problem-I am stuck with paying to fix it because it was not a manufacturer defect. BE WARE OF SERVICE AT INSKIP-WARWICK!!!!!!

Strength:

Very quick and excellent handling.

Weakness:

MAINTENANCE. Engine is dependable but computer gliches are annoying and expensive. Hoses were out quickly and seems to always need something. Went to the dealer and an old man watching his daughter buy a three series told me, " Dude...you are buying the ride" An expensive ride at that. If the ride wasnt so good, I'd drive a Lexus RX 350 like my "smart" wife.

Great handling SUV for daddies who really wanted a Porsche.

Weakness:

window problems, power transmission leaks, motor harness, throttle body, and this vehicle only has 74000 miles, warranty is worthless, if you make the mistake of buying this vehicle 2 words extended warranty and second job

The worst and most expensive vehicle I have ever owned. I pretty much leave a blank check every dealer visit.
