Strength:

towed a 31 ft camper cross country and it handled it well

Weakness:

in shop over 8x before it hit 36000 mi, fuel pump, 4wd stopped working, defective cv boot, passenger door lock broke twice, ck engine light came on mult x dealer could not find problem, mystery electrical issues, whistling thru radio w/ acceleration, rear defrost made radio go to all static, door began to rust even after paying for teflon coating

Overall I love Suburbans and hoping I just got a bad one, traded it in on another Suburban but a 3/4 ton

Brakes.

Overall a pretty good vehicle so far. 56k on the odometer. Rear window defogger wires fell of 6 times until dealer finally figured it out. They replaced control unit on dash. If your having this problem just replace the control unit. It would never turn off the rear defogger and the solder would go bad on the window.

Not burning oil yet...I was not aware of that problem until this evening. Will watch the oil levels. Good gas mileage for such a big rig.

Today I had to have a u joint replaced that was going bad. Vehicle was vibrating on the highway. GM replaced for free.

Huge Oil Burner. Luther Chev has just tore apart engine. Cannot find a thing wrong. They want to continue monitoring it.

Don't buy these trucks until GM gets this mess figured out. I have owned trucks my entire life and have never, ever had this problem. But, they were all Fords prior to this one......

Love the overall vehicle, its big, heavy, safe and rides like a cloud.

First problem was with defogger coils that are welded to inside of window. these have fallen of and each time the replace the entire window, I am now on window number 8 yes you read right I said 8!!! Now, the vehicle is burning oil like its going out of stile. Did oil consumption test and they are going to replace the driverside lifters on Monday (Oct. 19, 2009). I have seen many of these same complaints online and wonder why GM is waisting $$$ on these things when they know damn well it will NOT fix the problem. Not only is this a big pain in my *** but, the service dept. here in Eureka, CA (Northwood Chevrolet) is the WORST SERVICE dept I have ever had to experince. what is a person to do????

Strength:

Luxury ride on the highway. Just a joy to drive.

Weakness:

I get 18 to 19 MPG on the highway not the advertised 20.

This is my second Suburban and I love it. We regularly travel long distances to visit family and friends. There can't be a more comfortable vehicle for long trips. Our Labrador Retriever has plenty of room and can get in through the side door so it is not a big leap to get in.

There have been no issues with the truck in the 15,000 miles we have driven. Have changed oil twice and the level is always at the top before the change. No problems at all.

Handles great and is wonderful in the snow. Nice heavy and safe vehicle to protect the kids.

Weakness:

OIL BURNER!!!!!!

Oil burner. I go through 1 quart of oil every 2,000 miles. After charting oil consumption by the dealership, finally convinced GM that there was something wrong. Dealer tore apart the engine and found that the cylinders were "knicked". They replaced the cylinder heads and now 2,000 miles later the vehicle is still consuming oil. Once again, GM is stating that oil consumption is normal. I have never had a new car that I have had to add oil to!! Love the vehicle and how it handles, but I don't understand why GM refuses to fix a recurring problem. I was also told by the dealer to "deal with it and start adding oil". The dealership also told me that they have never heard of a suburban consuming oil. I have spent 30 minutes on the internet and have found 15 cases of 2007 suburbans consuming oil. The problem is still ongoing.

Gas mileage.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Suburban! What a smooth ride and power tower she is! I took her in for a 'brake check' recently and had to replace the rear axle. Now I'm losing/buring coolant and oil as well-not a good sign. She's losing her youthful beauty, but I'm almost willing to put the money in it to keep her. If you are concerned about gas mileage or another gas price hike this is not a good option for you. But, if you need a powerhouse tower and overall well built vehicle, I would recommend it.

People who DO NOT take care of thier things.

I bought my brother's 1997 Suburban, he bought the vehicle brand new in '97 for over $32k with all kinds of custom accessories (still have original dealer window sticker!). My brother is a VERY, VERY, VERY meticulous person when it comes to everything that he owns, including, and perhaps especially, automobiles. This Suburban has over 182,000 miles and runs exactly as if it were brand new! No exxageration, it is exactly like new. The only thing, besides performing extreme preventative maintenance, over the life of this vehicle was the electronic fuel pump was replaces a couple of years ago. This Suburban is incredible, and was pulling boats and trailers for all of it's life too! Absolutely runs like a dream, a perfect vehicle. The problem with almost any vehicle is that many people simply do not maintain them properly. This car is extremely exceptional, it looks brand new inside and out, people comment about it all the time, and many have asked to buy it from me.
