Strength:

Strong 350, great handling even when towing, roomy.

Weakness:

None

Overall a very reliable vehicle. Threw the surp. belt once when the AC comp locked up. Leaking HP hose on ps pump. Easy to get to everything to fix and parts are inexpensive. 197,000 miles and still as strong as ever ! 5.7L V8 4speed auto and 3:42:1 rear. Pulls an 8,000 RV trailer without much trouble.... hills greater than 8% grade slow her down. Brakes are a bit weak but if you drive with a brain you'll be fine. Looking for a 99' K2500 454 now to conquer those hills. May have to let the 1500 go to a good family.... I'll miss her.

Strength:

Safe, comfortable vehicle with a high level of luxury.People who are not "name" consious will get a vehicle identicle to the escalade or denali for a lot less.

Weakness:

poor towing capability. What am I doing wrong? Does not live up to its reputation. Fit and finish poor given the price premium. This vehicle will climb any hill but cannot get out of its way on an open level highway Reccomend the 8.1 with smaller rear axle.

We purchased this vehicle for towing. Daily useage has proven to be a joy. My wife feels totally safe and loves its easy driving ability. We took delivery in april 'oo and have 60k miles. Gas is poor but I feel respectable for the size. 13 ave. Have gotten as much as 18 and as little as 5! We tow a 27' t.trailer that weighs 6300# loaded, well below the rating of 8000#. Q!uestion to any who tow with this vehicle... I feel when towing this truck cannot get out of its own way. Struggles at 55-60 mph seems safer at 70 mph. Excessive engine noise and the tranny cannot make up its mind where it wants to be! Also Truck must not be running when you hook up rig or the auto ride ?? will get a false reading regarding "level" and will over compensate any sway control system. I have a sway problem even with the dual cam sway system.6 ltr. is awsome when we are not towing but weak when we are. wonder if we spec'd the wrong rear end (4.10) This truck was built to order for us in Mexico and except for a new tranny at 20k we have had relatively no mechanical problems that I would consider excessive. Fit and Finish has been a big problem and we have had our Sub. in at least 30 times for repair. Our rational is no price break so if we even think there is a problem it goes in. Hint: check your Auto ins policy for rental coverage. We had 17k of body damage 2 weeks after we got it due to hail. Cov. allowed 30$ daily on rental which is a GEO or FOCUS. Not even close when you are driving an SUV. We upped it to 80$ daily for maybe 20$ more per year. Also, I highly urge you to write in to your sales CONTRACT to have a SIMILAR vehicle as a loaner when your in for repairs!!! We do love this truck regardless of repairs and highly reccomend it ONLY if you need the towing and passenger capacity. We both agree thatwe would never have bought one except fopr those two items

We had a 98 dodge conversion van that was supposedly equipped to tow the same trailer we have now. Could not climb any kind of grade where the Sub. does not even downshift (Keystone S.D. Mt. Rushmore!

Model Reviewed: 2500 LT Quadrasteer

Strength:

Powerful, strong, excellent for towing. Great handling with quadrasteer. XM radio is a kick. I paid invoice - $300 + $3,000 rebate + $2,000 quadrasteer rebate

Weakness:

Gas guzzler. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR IF YOU DON'T NEED THE SIZE OR THE POWER.

I love my truck! This is my third Suburban. My first was a '97 1500 LT, second '00 1500 LT, now an '03 2500 LT. The '97 was a little primitive with not much luxury in spite of the LT package. The '00 was fine with brakes that lasted well past 40K miles and adequate power. The '03 2500 with the 6.0L engine is a beast. I tow a horse trailer and when the quadrasteer came out, I had to have it. It makes towing a breeze and the truck handles like my Mercedes convertable. It has tremendous power with the 4.1 rear end. My kids love the DVD entertainment system and I enjoy the XM radio and the CD changer. On-star is nice but a little pricey after the introductory year. The personal calling is a nice feature, but also a little overpriced considering its just a cell phone connected by satellite. I would have liked a GPS but that is unavailable. Also, you can't get the DVD and sunroof together until the '04 model. With quadrasteer you get roof marker lights which eliminate the possibility of a sunroof. I guess the geniuses at GM can't figure how to run wires along the side of the roof.

size, power, comfort, safty(apart from brakes),the kind of car that when you start driving you dont whant to stop.

Weakness:

brakes, quality of some parts ie bell housing door locks.lots of rattles.very poor headlihts

.we love it though the brakes suck,im not looking forword to using them in an emergency.we have a big family and live in the bush so the size and comfort are great, but when driving on gravil roads it has alot of rattles, the door locks need constant fixing, the bell housing is weak (had to weld it up onece already) but i love the power and touque compared to toyota and nissan of same age.i think that for the money these beasts are worth chev could aford to put more quality into them

Strength:

Engine is responsive. Good interior room.

Weakness:

Bad Brakes that goes all the way to the floor and could cause an accident. (I had one). The ABS brakes are funky. Lots of rattles. Powertrain noise/ klunks. Poor attention to details. Look at a Ford Expedition or Toyota Sequoia to see what I mean. It looks like they took the short cut by reusing a dashboard found on their cheaper pickup trucks.

TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR AN SUV, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CHEVY - YOU'LL BE SORRY. Like several reviewers, I share the same sentiments on the brakes, body rattles and powertrain klunks. The brakes went all the way down to the floor when I had to make an emergency stop and it took a while before the SUV went to a halt, but was a bit too late. What stopped the vehicle is the truck in front of me. I've had this Suburban for less than a year and all I got is a bunch of headaches and will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy another Chevy again. I won't make that same mistake again. It's a shame considering that this is supposed to be their flagship. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT WORTH WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR.(I'm dumbfounded on how Chevy could just ignore these issues when several people have already complained about it. On this page alone, there are several complaining about the same issues.)
