Strength:

Power, roominess and comfort for travel. Great SUV to buy used if you buy from the original owner who had taken care of it.

Weakness:

Does not heat or cool fast enough. Get a good AC mechanic to pull a vacuum on AC system and refilled freon. Make sure he cleans the expansive valve and condenser. Weather stripping is below average and color fades. Braking is average. If you have the money upgrade your braking.

I boughta the Tahoe LT 2WD with 48,200 miles. This is one of my best buys in a vehicle. It is roomy, comfortable, easy to see and has power. I had to change the waterpump at 68,000 miles but this has been the only repair and it is expensive at the dealer. The stock tires for this 2 wheel drive came stock with 15 inch wheel which gave it an awful look. I put 20's on it and it came to life. the ride is much better with these tires although I would recommend 18 inch wheels with very good tires for this 2WD model instead 20's because it makes tight turns much better. Gas mileage was reduced due to heavier wheels from approx 15.5 mpg (19 hwy) to 13.5 mpg (17 hwy). It is a great SUV. Be careful, there are lemons in this model out there.

Strength:

Big comfy quiet ride. Great towing vehicle. Room for all. OK for towing less than 4000lbs.

Weakness:

A GM product and a GM design. 2 tranmissions in 9 months with only 3k miles between failures. Front diff seals are poorly designed and WILL leak. Fuel sending unit has a HISTORY of failures on ALL vehicles. Battery was spent after 36 months, go figure. The factory radio has been pulled 3 times. The power steering pump was replaced at about 1k miles. A mystery grimlin in the electrical switches on the rear wiper when the lights are turned on. This is a SB item and I did get a bandaid fix for the first year, but after the warrantee burned off GM wouldn't stand behind this KNOWN problem! This SUV has the worst brakes! A panic stop requires you to turn your head and wince! The vehicle was GREAT until we let GM work on it. Their attempt to fix all that wasn't broken but destined to break or fail according to SB's and owner complaints has cost me $$$$ Buyer be ware. There IS a known weakness in the transmission. Mine failed in the parking lot at the dealership in reverse!!! What a stroke of luck...for the service department!!! I strongly recommend you do your homework on this vehicle BEFORE spending any dollars on any recent model years. The service people will blow smoke up your skirt and tell you what you want to hear, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH! You've been warned.

2002 Chevy Tahoe with all the whistles and bells. Loaded, Leather, Auto Ride Suspension, even has special order lower final gears which are great for towing. Great vehicle until I let GM work on it. At 41k miles we had the MAJOR FACTORY servicing performed..about $650 out the door. What a mistake that was. Those courtesy service letters are just a ploy to get you in the service bay and take your money. We were ok for about 10 miles after that and then the #$#@@ hit the fan with MAJOR problems. 2 tranmissions, one fuel gauge, 2 front differential seals, and time and $$$ lost. All this in less than 9 months.

I'M VERY DISAPOINTED WITH THE REVIEW ON THE TAHOE, ALMOST EVERY OTHER REVIEW WAS VERY NEGATIVE. THAT'S TOO BAD I WAS JUST ABOUT TO BUY A 05-06, BUT NOW I CHANGED MY MIND. I WANTED TO BUY AMERICAN, BUT I GUES QUALITY IS JUST NOT THERE. TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH WATER PUMP, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, TRANSMITION, ETC... I REALLY LIKE THE LOOKS OF IT, BUT IT WILL HAVE TO BE JAPANESE AGAIN. IF ANYONE OUT THERE CAN GIVE ME A GOOD REASON TO BUY IT, PLEASE POST IT AS I WILL WATCH FOR IT.

Power! Luxury!

Weakness:

The brakes do not last as long as I think they should but my boyfirned drives it like it's a car!

I LOVE this truck! We paid $28,000 with under 30,000 miles on it! Coming from family of Ford owners and owning Fords myself, this was a great intro to Chevy! So much room, power and luxury! There is now 89,000 miles on the engine and we just had the first mechanical problem. The fuel pump went. There is an annoying issue with the rear passenger brake light. We replaced the bulb and the light unit and it still won't work, it has to do with the wiring. The driver's side seat heater went on it too. I never used it anyways!! Other than that and the un-even wear of the front tires I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!

Strength:

- engine's never been replaced (nor has it acted like it wants to be) - excellent power - nice ride - drives smaller than it is. - all around excellent package. - transmission is very durable.

Weakness:

- steering can get a little loose, nothing to dangerous though. - fuel pump has failed twice, although the plus is that their parts carry a lifetime warranty so I didn't have to pay the $400+ for the second pump. But then again, I guess that's what I get for going to a dealership down the street from a junkyard. - might be my Tahoe, but the front tires wear unevenly. - coolant leaks once a year.

Bought this car used in 1999 with 120k on the odometer and have put an addition 100k on it. Have had to take it to the shop at least once a year over the years I've owned it. Have used since the first day I bought it to tow lawn (anywhere from 500-2000lbs) equipment 5 days a week 15-30 miles each day. Excellent in the snow, easy to steady after making quick moves (since we all know that the stupid people like to come out in inclimate weather). Good on long trips as well (from Ohio to Mississippi). A tough cookie to say the least.

By far the best vehicle I evered owned. It drives like a luxury car. In the 3 plus years I-ve owned it I've only had to buy a new tire and have the right front shock tightened. It's a killer in the snow. After owning Fords and Dodges I decided it was time for a Chevy, and the wait was well worth it.

It looks great when polished and standing still. Lots of power (when running)

Weakness:

Seems to know when your bank account is getting larger and breaks itself to correct that problem....

I wrote a review a few years back and at that time I was pleased with the Tahoe. Since then, I would have to change my feeling with this vehicle. When we first got the car, the rear-end needed to be replaced which was handled under warranty. Then, it blew a head gasket due to the heads. A few months after that the water intake inlet cracked and had to be replaced. This year was the worst; the transmission went out at 68K even though it was regularly serviced. Something electrical went wrong and caused it to destroy itself. Then I took it to have it tuned up ($600) and one week after the nice tune-up the water pump felt left out and ate itself. Once that was repaired it began running poorly and I found the fuel regulator was defective and it was in a place that only God or a GM Mechanic could get at ($275) Without a doubt, my next car will be an import. As an American, I am embarrassed at the quality of our cars. Heck, some of the imports are BUILT HERE and they have a higher reliability rating. Why can't we do that?

Weakness:

Fuel milage, but if you buy a big SUV, that should not be an issue

Awsome truck, I love it. My whole family is Ford, and my Dad has a Bronco, my Tahoe is 10x better. In short time I have had it, I have gone on some pretty long drives with no problems at all. It handles as good if not better that my Firebird that I traded in on it. I know that Tahoe's will be part of my family from now on. Also the sales people did not try to push it down my throat.
