Ford Escape (2010 and older) SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The Ford Escape is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, and lead the small SUV class back when it was first introduced in 2001. Although changes have continued to be made to the Escape over the last ten years, its exterior and interior designs are looking dated compared to the competition.

The XLS FWD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 171-horsepower engine that achieves 22-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The Limited Hybrid 4WD is equipped with a standard 2.5-liter, I4, 153-horsepower, hybrid engine that achieves 29-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway. A variable speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

The Ford Escape gets good fuel economy with its standard 4-cylinder engine and it offers a long list of high tech features and options such as the Ford SYNC entertainment system, programmable MyKey and active park assist, a system which allows the Escape to parallel park itself with very little driver involvement.

Strength:

Great premium package, alot of power and pick up for a V6

Weakness:

none

I have to say after test driving approx. 4 different SUV, I was most impressed by the escape...Unlike the CRV which lacks a lot of power the Escape was the complete package. I bought the XLT model with leather and all the trimmings and must say I could not have been more happy with my choice of SUV's..A great buy and a fun vehicle to drive.

Strength:

V6 power, amount of interior room, fun to drive (for a SUV) and small exterior dimensions.

Weakness:

Ford could have sent more time in choosing the interior trim materials.

I have had my Escape for eighteen months and 22,000 miles and I have had no problems with it. It is the chrome yellow and I still get compliments on it. I bought it to replace a Sable stationwagon. I go camping every month I needed something with more ground clearance, but similar room and gas mileage. The Escape fit the requirements. I test drove a CRV but was very disappointed. I have been quite with this vehicle.

Comfortable, sporty, has "get up and go"

Weakness:

Engine stall, wind noise while on highway

My husband was after me for two years to buy a bigger vehicle. I am a huge Honda fan was VERY reluctant to give up my Prelude. I didn't care for the looks of the CRV and wasn't interested in the price tag of the then upcoming Pilot. My sister showed me an Escape and I was hooked. Test drove one and loved it. No problems until this past weekend. I was driving down the road (40 mph) when the engine stalled and I lost power brakes and steering. Mileage was around 8700. Roadside Assistance towed it to the local dealership. They reprogrammed the PCM. If it does it again, I'm cutting my losses and getting rid of the Escape. I feel like I have to drive with one hand on the parking brake. After searching the internet and seeing other individuals are are experiencing same problem, I would not recommend this vehicle until it is resolved. There should be a recall; in my opinion, it's too big of a safety issue.

My Escape is GREAT! Until today when reading these posts, I never knew that Escapes had the "stalling" problem. The only complaint I have about mine is the noise. I have a rattle coming from the rear of the car that sounds like the back flip up window is loose. I'm not really sure what it is, but others have told me its a standard noise that comes from a majority of SUV's. I am constantly on the higway either driving to see family, friends or to work, and I think the gas milage is GREAT for the size of this SUV. I've recomended it to many people. Everyone loves it when I drive! Anyone looking for a big SUV with a little body - THIS IS YOUR CAR!

Strength:

Great engine-snappy acceleration-nice torque range Great looks-functional AND comfortable-everything within easy reach White faced gauges very easy to read Great stock stereo system-never had the CD player skip yet-very nice setup 4WD System works well-very little slippage Seats four people comfortably-five nicely-six if they're REALLY friendly Lots of cargo space-rear seats fold flat and greatly expand cargo abilities Easy to use child locks-for those unruly back-seat driving adults too:) Great deal for the price!

Weakness:

Tires.....Tires.....Tires.....Only thing I NEED to change-great on highway and dirt roads-okay in slightly muddy conditions-fine on hardpack snow-a little worrisome in fresh snow

When I was looking for a new vehicle, I looked around alot-being a picky person. When the Escapes came out, test drove one because the company I work for needed new vehicles. I fell in love with it right away and bought one myself! Have had it towed once because the fan belt pulley fell off then engine, but that was a while ago-don't know if it happened to anyone else. My Escape has over 30,000 miles on it, so it's been broken in nicely. It has been thru mud, snow, everything Mother Nature has thrown at it, and it keeps coming back for more! The company I work for (CN8 News) bought 10 Escapes after I got mine, and only one had a problem-a fuel sensor went bad. My co-workers all rave at how well the Escapes work for our needs. I just can't believe how many other Escapes have had stalling problems! I just never heard about it before on this scale. It's something that I will keep an eye on, but I would recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a reliable, safe, comfortable SUV that won't set them back 30G's.

Strength:

Good looking SUV with plenty of power under the hood with the V6

Weakness:

Cargo space is a little less than most and I have noticed that SUV's are getting SMALLER yet more EXPENSIVE !

I really enjoy my Escape. I hate to hear the stalling problems that everyone is having with theirs. I purchased mine with 24,000 miles on it as a program vehicle. I am seriously considering buying the additional warranty, eventhough I personally have not had a stall yet. I hope that I don't have that problem. I really enjoy the truck. I was a little disappointed in the ride. I traded in a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo that rode like a Lexus. Then I get into the Escape and I feel every bump. To me though, that is part of a sporty ride that I have been missing since my last sports car. I definitly think the Escape is Sporty.

Strong motor.

Weakness:

It STALLS while decelerating from normal operating speeds.

With less than 700 miles, my 2003 Escape Limited stalled while going 30 mph on a curvy road and nearly casued my wife to wreck when the power steering and brakes were lost. This is a significant safety issue and I cannot let my family drive the vehicle if this is going to happen again.

Having owned a Volvo 740 Turbo station Wagon and Pontiac Grand Prix GT I find that it gives me the features that I liked in those 2 cars and the space of the Olds 88 LSS.

Weakness:

Too early to comment. As most of my driving will be done in and around Toronto wind noise should at speed above 100km will not not be problem. The Turbo noise in the Volvo was much worse;

5 days may be too short a time to write a review :-) My wife has the older CRV and I traded in my Olds 88 LSS 1996 after doing 94.000 KM

Weakness:

GAS MILEAGE, wind noise, engine noise, and anything to come.

I have had this vehicle since September 2001. I am very disappointed in the gas mileage. I've had it in the shop 3 times now. Speedometer Cluster, Engine Lights & Wheel Berrings. I told myself never to by the 1st year of any vehicle.....and boy do I regret it!! Too much wind noise, rattling, shaking, etc. Only getting 15 mpg. Would not recommend this so called SUV to anybody. Just waiting for it to stall like all the rest. DRIVE WITH CAUTION!!!

Interior, road noise could be toned down a bit.

Bought a late 2001 XLT v6 4wd Escape in black. At 16,000 miles of towing my jet skiis, to going to my favority fishing spots it proven to be quite reliable. Love the v6 and the ride! also have bike racks ontop and in the tow hitch. Great vehicle, functional. did loose my subwoofer 1 on my Mach 6 stero system. Replaced under warranty.
