Strength:

Looks great.

Weakness:

Suspension (ask any mechanic), engine power, and anything that runs on a computer chip.

Since I bought this truck used in 2002, I've had most of the suspension rebuilt (some parts twice), had trouble with engine performance, climate control, the 4WD, the ABS, the starter solenoid and some bad engine performance. While it might be one of the coolest-looking trucks on the road, I'm getting a Dodge or Nissan next time.

Engine is great!! Comfortable seats!!

Weakness:

Hubs=$200-$300 each for replacement, not counting labor.

Wow, everything sounds familiar. Hubs & wheel bearings have to be replaced, idler arm/pitman arm have to be replaced, oil coolant line replaced. From what I've read the front end has problems. I'm at 130,000 miles and 1 year to pay off, hope I get there without any other significant problems.

Strength:

Even though its red it's still nice looking. : smooth ride til a hub fails, comfortable on long rides, good space even with spare inside, handles well in snow,

Weakness:

front end: both hubs 2x, idler arm,(more to come this weekend possible ball joints or other fun front end items, the anticipation is killing me.), oil lines, batteries, altinators, seat adjusters, mirrors, rear wiper, speakers, high winds keep ya alert, all around bad visiblity

My "Notorious" Jimmy, so says every mechanic, has been fair too me. I change the oil ontime and it deffinatly gets plenty attention. My cars always break on a reagular basis how bout yours? I have only been stranded once, ovcourse at midnight in the middle of northern bummble Puck. Illinois to Tennesse on a bad hub, driving The Smokeys in new houseing developements with no road gaurd rails. Might have been a lil lucky there. Gotten to 83,000 miles and i guess a couple months with no car payments was fun while it lasted. I've fix thous listed in weaknees section, and yes i wear a cup when i visit the mechanics garage.

LOOKS GOOD

Weakness:

BALL JOINTS, HINGES, SEATS.

WHEN I BOUGHT IT,DEC 2005 IN NY, I DROVE STRAIGHT TO WISCONSIN. WITH A TIRE RUB. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST NEW TIRES. 3 MONTHS LATER WHEN I WAS IN MAINE, I TOOK IT TO GET THE OIL CHANGED, AND FOUND OUT IT WASN'T A RUB IT WAS THE BALL JOINTS, THEY HAD NEVER BEEN GREESED AT ALL, THE GUY TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE IT BECAUSE THE WHEEL WAS ABOUT TO FALL OFF . I CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER TO GET IT TAKEN CARE OF. THEY SAID THE TRUCK SHOULD HAVE NEVER EVEN PASSED NY STATE INSPECTION. I PAID 2500 FOR A SERVICE AGGREEMENT , THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERD, I HAD TO DRIVE TO NY AND MAKE THE DEALER CHANGE THE SERVICE AGREEMENT, TO WHAT I WAS SOPOST TO HAVE BOUGHT, THEN THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO WAITE 30 DAYS BEFORE THEY COULD FIX IT. AFTER SOME YELLING THEY FINNALY FIXED IT AT NO CHARGE, UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS, THE DOOR HINGES, AND THE POWER TRAIN LEAK. ALL THIS AND I HAD THE VEHICLE 3 MONTHS. IT HAD 65000 ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I THINK THE SEATS ARE TERRIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE. NOW I THINK THE SHOCKS NEED REPLACEING IM BOUNCING ALL OVER THE ROAD. IT IS VERY NOISY , IN THE WIND. I PRAY IT LASTS A WHILE,

Strength:

Tuff frame, Great Seats (dunno why they ever changed them in the Enovys or Trailblazers) Good Power from a V6 4.3L

Weakness:

Bad on Gas.
Front End (but what trucks front end is any good? Ha)

I have had my Jimmy for about a year. Not a bad SUV. however its famous for this front end (not in a good way) The wheel bearings love to break. (yes they are GMC Parts). However i do drive it hard It has 122,000K on it and drives like new. It has a lot of power for a small SUV, No engine problems yet. (Knock on wood) Nice ride for short or long drives.
Parts Replaced this year:
Wheel bearings. Left, Right
Breaks, Front, back
Pitman Arm
A/C compressor
Ball joints. ALL of them
list goes on. However all the parts replaced are wear and tear parts. Its a 1999 SLT and all the parts being replaced are orginal. So all and all thats not bad when u drive it hard. If i do buy a new GMC/Chev it will be the Chev Trailblazer.

Strength:

built tough, 5 passenger seating is nice, the transfer case works great, the 4.3 is one of the best engines i have driven

Weakness:

ground clearance is poor....have not bottomed it out yet since suspension catches it but off roading or doing work under it is a pain

I love my Jimmy. I have over 142,000 miles and it has no serious problems. I will probably be ending up getting rid of it come the end of the year because milage will be over 160,000 and that is high for an american vehicle. Since i have had it i have replaced the alternator, hubs/bearings and waterpump. I have been driving this for a year and a half and it has been great for me and i drive this thing hard. I put over 1500 miles on it a month. It is also built pretty damn tough....2 winters ago i was driving without the auto 4wd on and hit a patch of black ice at 50+mph and hit a guard rail and all it did was bent the bumper. Come Janurary i will be looking to buy another Blazer/Jimmy this one being a ZR2 version.

Front end and windshield wipers.

Not bad. Got off a 3 yr. lease with 30,000. Drove it 50,0000 mi in the past 3 years. One alternate.
OK here's the problem, the windshield wipers. They just run or stop when they want to? We know there is a computer somewhere!!!

Not as bad on gas as I thought
Smooth
Handles well
Off roads great
Comfortalble on long drives

Weakness:

Front end

I have gone from a chevy cavalier to a ford ranger to my Jimmy. I love it. I have had minor problems like an occasional alignment. But honestly I have never bought a new vehicle and I have always had to get the next because the last broke down. My Jimmy has been a dream it rides very smooth, it is very quiet on the road and if your like me and live in the country and use the 4x4 it does alot better than I imagined it would. I could not have stumbled across a better buy. I bought the thing with 135000 mile on it and it now has 170000 and still running great. I love the fact that it is roomy inside. I can haul stuff and still fit 5 people comfortably inside.

Every time I see an ad for a GMC Truck or SUV I get sick. I bought my Jimmy from a factory dealer. Certified Used Car and paid top dollar. I've had nothing but trouble. Bad engineering. Door came lose. Front hubs failed. Electricial problems. Turn signal shorted out and started smoking. Two alternators burned out. I never off road and have met all the service dates. No wonder all the US car executives can't figure out why they are losing market share. I will never, never, ever buy a US car again. Ever!
