Strength:

Sporty, good gas mileage if driven under 60.

Weakness:

Nothing major, but the windshields sit at such a position. I am on 4th windshield in 2 years. Seems like a lot. Only cracked 1 before the element in total.

It is great for pulling a small fishing boat. I have slept in my element while camping/ fishing. Almost all positive remarks from friends once they get inside. Motor seems very smooth. People have assumed v6 in it due to transission of power. Have put 78K on it in over 2 years and had only small issues.

I purchased this car new in October of 2004, and I've put 45,000 miles on it. Within the first year, I got a large rock chip in the windshield, which my insurance company plugged so it wouldn't branch out. After about 15,000 miles the car developed a loud squeak from the rear suspension; the dealer replaced a defective knuckle under warranty. I've done four oil changes and gone through six tires. My Element was recently involved in an incident when someone decided to vandalize it, smashing the windshield and leaving two large dents in the fender - the insurance claim was only $1600, which is much less than other claims I've been involved in.

My issues are minor. I have been very happy with my purchase; it drives well and has decent grunt. It rides like a utility truck, but the turning circle puts almost anything else to shame and the steering effort is fine. The seven-speaker stereo was a great selling point and I thoroughly enjoy it.

And then there's the convenience I bought it for in the first place. It's easy to fold the seats, and once I've done so, I can fit a bicycle in the back standing up. Try that in your Scion xB. It was handy to have it when it came time to move, too, though it probably wasn't the most economical thing to have to take 6 trips!

Model Reviewed: Element/ EX 5spd

Strength:

Everything about this thing is a strength! Versatility, seating arrangements, ability to sleep while stretched out fully (I am 6 foot 4), removable sunroof, all wheel drive, driving position, roominess, 5spd, i-Pod jack, built in XM, stereo, comments from friends.

Weakness:

There have been several rattles; however, after careful examination, I was able to muffle all of them by simply using some rolled up felt. Gas mileage is a common complaint but it will get the full 25 if you drive very close to 55 mph. As speed increased from that point, mileage decreases. I average 21 all the time. I really cannot complain about the Element at all. I researched it for almost 2 years before buying one, so I knew exactly what to expect. A luxury vehicle it is not, but it's not meant to be.

Very solid little vehicle. It is the only vehicle I have owned that I would buy again tomorrow if something happened to it. It fits every part of my lifestyle (mountain biking, snowboarding, road trips, beach). If you have an active lifestyle or are simply looking for a really fun all around vehicle, the Element should get the job done.

Strength:

Looks, sound system is kicking! Viewing capabilities for back seat passengers and front seat passengers.

Weakness:

No mist setting for wipers, road noise (turn up the stereo and you don't even hear it :)

Easily blown on open highway when there are winds 30 mph or higher.

Excellent vehicle. Much easier to drive than my Ford Explorer and much better gas mileage. Good road handling, especially around curves. The space of this car cannot be beat, and the ability to reconfigure the seats it awesome. Easy to clean out (I have 2 dogs). Very fun to drive, looks good too

The HD head lamps work on dark hwy driving
The overall look is a bit much but I like it
I'm no gearhead but this is the first car/suv I ever fell good driving and the women like it too they stoped of me as the Geek with a soccer-mom car and now think of me as the Geek with the sexy ride so thats a strength in my book any day

Weakness:

Well over all too ridged ride for me passanger seat needs more adjustments seat belts could be set better for taller people XM raido is lacking would have been better with HD wiper blades need a lower setting for mist during the brake in miles asselerates funny but that is normal or so I'm told

ps mine is in the shop with a problem right now not even 1000mi on it and in need of a major repair to something that has honda saying I can't figure out how this happened under normal driving Im kinda pissed

Well loved everything but, The ride is a little stiff not liking comming to a dead stop for any speed bump its way too tight for your avgrage driver comming off a 99 honda CR-v this is not what I was expecting but other than that Its been great

Strength:

Roomy, comfortable seats, good sound system. Easy to clean (with exceptions like keeping the rubber panels clean is a pain in t) My son loves the moon roof.

Weakness:

see the review above.

I picked up the Honda for its size, looks and kid friendly features. I've had it for a little over a year now and unless it went through a creature comfot redesign, I wouldn't buy it again.

The dealer mounted the front license plate cockeyed. They corrected it but it should never have been mounted poorly in the first place.

The car was out of alignment when delivered by the dealer and after two trips to correct the problem, its still not perfect. In addition, the steering wheel is cocked to the left side as well. Even though their technicians have inspected it, they say its with in spec even though the Elements on the sales floor are not that way?

After 8 months, the drivers seat developed a squeak. The dealer is replacing under warranty.

Gas mileage is very bad. After a year, I'm only getting 71% of stated mileage.

The stock tires are already balding due to the car being out of alignment.

Very poorly designed cup holders. Every time I put a drink in them, it splashes all over the center console.

Honda cheaped out on included equipment - should have included the optional armrest and the rubber floor mats as standards.

On a number of occasions, my knee has it the side of the dashboard when I enter the car, knocking the plastic plate open on the side. Whats up with that?

You always hear about legendary Honda quality and it was one of the reasons I bought the car in the first place. I just don't see it on this car. The dealerships unwillingness to correct the issues and to have the audacity to say things are "within spec" is disturbing to me. I'll be dumping this lemon as soon as I can find a replacement.
