I purchsed this Honda Passport and paid cash for it, I had it 2 weeks and the transmission went on it, they made pay pay to have the car hauled all the way to back to San Jose, I was also going through cancer treatments and had to hire a car to make the appointments, I was told I would get a new transmission but no they put in a used one, when Toyota installed it they said it was still slipping and the speed sensor harness connector was broke so they sub let it to Stevens Creek Honda to fix it, they never put a new part in it they just repaired it, now exactly 2 years later the transmission has gone again, I also thought Honda's were good cars but I have changed my mind. It also cost my $700 to fix the cin unit in the gas tank, so this car has cost more now that was pain for it, I have a car sitting here as I don't have the thousands of dollars to fix it, Stevens Creek toyota representiives were rude and very un help, they got mony from me for a car that was definately a lemon, I thought it would last me more than two years

I HATE THIS TRUCK. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE DAY ONE. I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED 2 YEAR WARRANTY WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH OF COURSE NEVER COVERED ANY OF THE PROBLEMS, SO I CANCELLED THE COVERAGE. THE OIL LIGHT ALWAYS CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG THEN THE GAS LIGHT ALWAYS STAYED ON AND THEY WOULDN'T FIX THAT EITHER. SO NOW THE ENGINE IS GONE OUT OF MY TRUCK AND EVERY WHERE I CALLED TO HAVE IT FIXED SAYS IT'S EXSPENSIVE AND IS A HARD MOTOR TO GET. SO I OWE $6500 ON IT AND NOW THEY SAY THE ENGINE WILL BE $4800. I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A GOOD VEHICLE DUE TO THE FACT IT WAS A HONDA BUT I GUESS NOT. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED 2 ISUZU RODEO'S WHICH THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WITH THEM WAS THE GAS LIGHT. SO NOW I'M STUCK WITH A TRUCK PAYMENT AND A VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T RUN. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE SOME WARNING ON THESE SUV'S IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND NOT JUSTME. I WOULD NEVER BUY A "HONDA" AGAIN I'LL STICK TO NISSAN. THE SAD THING IS THAT HONDA KNOW'S OF THESE PROBLEMS BUT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

Strength:

Good pick up when working, roomy, nice stereo system, good cargo space.

Weakness:

everything else!

I have the same story as many of you. Thought it was a honda and did not research it like I did my other vehicles, thought it was a good deal, the body and the mech. seemed great. Then after three weeks after purchase I had to change the transmission, OK things happen, Then 7 months later my motor went. So now I have to pay 2500.00 for a used motor so I can get rid of the thing. What a waste of my hard earned money that I saved for months and months to keep from having a car payment. Plus the insurance is high as heck because the word Honda is written on it. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE!

Not to mention the same complaint, gas gauge $500+ to fix, uses tooo much oil, blah blah blah!

Save yourself a headache and a bunch of cash. these vehicles should be banned from all car lots!!!!!!!!

Magic disappearing oil, drives like a truck, won't maintain good wheel alignment

DO NOT BUY THIS CAR! IT IS NOT A HONDA! Shame on me for trusting the Honda name and researching the cars lineage (Izuzu). When I purchased the car used it had 115K on it and no major problems and since it was supposedly a Honda, I figured I could get at least another 100K out of it (as I have on several other Hondas). Turns out the engine had the magic disappearing oil problem with no noticeable leak or blue smoke. Hmmm. Threw a rod and the Honda mechanic convinced me to have another engine dropped in because the body was in such good shape. One month later, sudden loss of oil pressure left me stranded by the side of the road - same magic disappearing oil trick. Same mechanic who had warrantied the new-used engine and his labor (foolish man) had to rebuild that engine piston by piston because he could not find another engine in the US for this SUV that did not have a serious mechanical problem. Five months later, I finally get the car back (mechanic said hardest engine he ever worked on). 24 hours later, the transmission cable breaks (unrelated to first problem) and I am left stranded again. My saga continues.

Strength:

has a little bit of power

Weakness:

it jerks when switching gears and every time i bring it to the dealership they keep it for about two weeks and then come up with a lame excuse to why it was jerking, and then tell me its ok. ive brought it to the dealership about 3 times in the past 5 months so that they can figure out whats wrong. now doing research, im learning that this is a common issue, seems to be the lower intake mainfold, which im pretty sure they're fully aware of. im also just realizing that the back window squeaking is a common problem also! the drive is the worst! every little bump is a like riding on a rollercoaster! the cd player is a piece of crap too!! the truck is terrible! im in awe that all of these things are common problems and not just me! i seen someone say that the whole truck should've been recalled..I AGREE!!

ITS A PIECE OF JUNK

Good Visabilty.
Comforable front and back seat.
Goes up the mountains well.
Haul wells.
Good for city driving or highway

Weakness:

Handles like a truck

I love my Passport! I never really have had any problems with the car and I like how you sit in the car giving you a lot of visability. I never thought that I would want a SUV, but after having the Passport I couldn't go back to not having one.
When I bought this car over 5 years ago I took it to a machanic to look over the car. The mechanice highly reccomended this car.
This car does drive like a truck. I had a Sunfire before that was totalled, and I feel safe in this car.

Passport has been great for us other then this problem with the Fuel Pump. We did have a problem with brakes but Honda never told us there was a recall too. Shame on Honda!!

Weakness:

MIght cause cause death driving a Honda Passport.

I have a 1999 Honda Passport, and the fuel light comes on eventhough the gas tank is fuel and the dial shows empty.
When I fill up gas the light stay on and then go off, the dial will show full then empty. Cost to repair $541.00. Honda is aware of the problem and I have found over 300 Passports now that have had this problem. If you own a Passport be very careful while driving if fuel gage drops. Reason is that we were traveling at 70 Mph when engind shut off due to Fuel pump. Could cause Crash or death.

EVERYTHING FROM THE CD PLAYER NOT WORKING TO THE BLOWN MOTOR TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO THE DISAPPEARING OIL (2 DIFFERENT SHOPS CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHERE IT GOES- DOESN'T SMOKE AND DOESN'T LEAK???)I'LL WALK OR RIDE BICYCLE BEFORE I BUY ANOTHER WITH THE NAME HONDA AGAIN!!!!!!

CRAPPY CAR! I thought I was buying a Honda, I wasn't, it's an Isuzu. I've spent approximately $5,600 in repairs since I bought it 6 months ago. The dealer won't stand behind it because it was used (even though they told me their mechanic checked it over and it was in perfect mechanical shape!) I've put in another motor and various other repairs. Note when I purchased it it only had 81,000 miles on it!!! Will never, ever buy from this dealer or from Honda again!

Strength:

It is very stylish and is a good size SUV-not too big or too little. Leather nice and I love my sunroof.

Weakness:

Fuel sending unit will malfunction causing the gas gauge to go nuts which then causes the check engine light to come on. It isn't too bad-just really annoying. In my opinion you are going to have some sort of problem with any car you buy...especially a used car- this one just happens to be a very agitating problem!

I have had the same problem that most everyone has had....Right now my gas gauge keeps dropping and the check engine light will start blinking at me like crazy!! I had no idea there were other people with the same problem!! I am shocked. When I bought this vehicle used, the rear main seal was bad already so of course I go through quite a bit of oil. The sad thing is that I had wanted a Honda Passport for a long time and was ecstatic when I finally got one. Now....I'm not so sure...
