Strength:

I like the 8 passanger capability, it roomy for 5'5, smoother ride than other SUVs in price range that I test drove.

Weakness:

Check engine light fiasco, noisy especially when rear windows down, problems with vibration over 70 mph

Overall, I loved the pilot. I thought I was getting a great automobile for the price. I owned a civic before with no problems. But the Pilot check engine light came on and when I took it to the dealer they could not find anything for over a month, that is until the car stalled on me. Now I have to pay over $1,000 to replace parts, because they said I was topping off and the gas leak out and ruin some parts. The car stayed in the shop for over 4 days while Honda tried to find Honda parts.

I previously owned a 2003 Honda Pilot and absolutely loved it. Then, inexplicably after three years I started having the check engine light coming on under evap codes. After multiple repairs, we decided to trade it in so as not to deal with it anymore. Unfortunately, i made the mistake of trading it in for a 2008 Pilot SE and after just six months, am experiencing the same problem and am considering arbitration under the Lemon Law. Good luck to you if you choose to buy a Honda Pilot.

Strength:

Just the right size...not too big and not too small.
Enough Room for family and luggage, and sometimes many more!
The DVD player is great for my daughter, although the speakers could be better.

Weakness:

The chrome painted interior handles
The Blinking D
The rear locks
The rear AC engine

I really do love my pilot; however, I have experienced many frustrations with this vehicle. I purchased the vehicle brand new. So far, my Pilot has experienced the following. It once experienced self-accerlation. Yes...my Pilot was on a mission and I could not stop it. I drove it straight to the dealer while applying my brakes every step of the way. No explanation was ever provided to me. Next, my interior chromed painted handles in the front started chipping paint, so when you grab the handle to escape, you end up with cut fingers. I am surprised Honda has not recalled these handles. Then of course the rear rubber seal of the spoiler has come undone and hung from the spoiler for quite sometime....I took it to get repaired...so they just tore it off. Wow..I am glad they didn't charge me for any labor for that. Next, the rear engine locks failed. Luckily enough, I did complain to Honda in California, and they called my local dealer, and my rear engine locks were repaired by Honda!!! NOW, my rear aircondition engine has failed, and it will cost my around $400 to get this repaired...WTF! Did I mention my "D" light on my dashboad blinks??? Yes it does, periodically when it feels like it...and of course, no explanation or rememdy has been found for that. Although, I am not alone on this one, I have found many Pilot owners across the U.S. that have the mysterious blinking "D". For as much money as we pay for this vehicle, I am surprised at how much pain and suffering we must undergo!

Strength:

Supposidly a long lasting vehicle

Weakness:

Too many flaws to list them all!

I traded to this Honda Pilot from a Honda Accord, and have missed my car ever since!! This vehicle is so noisy I feel as if I have to yell at the people in my Pilot when we are talking. I have had a rear "roaring" noise in this vehicle from day one, and the dealership has yet to fix the problem. It took them over a year of me going in and taking them for adrive for them to even hear it, and this is a LOUD noise. They replaced my exhaust system, but that did nothing. I just got home with it today after they said this time it was the transmission mounts being loose. Noise tsill there. They also replaced my tires today, but that did nothing as well. My honda Accord had what I felt was a lot of road noise, but it was nothing compared to this pilot!! I will not purchase a Honda again. I feel for the prices they charge you should get a vehicle that sounds less like a tractor and has less flaws!

Strength:

Quality, Honda reliability

Weakness:

No telecoping steering wheel, that's about it

Before anyone wonders how I got this vehicle for $24,700, traded a Accord and incentives from Honda.

Have owned (2) new Honda's before, both sedans. Took the next step into the Pilot. This is one sweet ride. Leather heated seats, XM Radio is nice too. Handles great, smooth and quiet. I thought about purchasing an American product, then came to my senses in about 2 seconds. Honda's sell themselves.

Great car!!!

Weakness:

gas gauge

We bought the car new. Love the car, not too good on gas, but acceptable.Had no problems until 6 months ago, it had 80,000 miles and the gas gauge started acting up, it kept going up and down... every time I would start the car the needle would be in a different place. We took it to the dealer and explain the problem, they changed the sensor inside the gas tank, did not help, it was still acting up. We took the car back (we have the platinum warranty, so we took it back to the dealership)and they replaced the whole cluster (speedometer, odometer, gauges) still didn't help... we are on our 3rd cluster and it's still not showing me the right amount of gas , still fluctuates... we are very frustrated with this and called Honda in CA, they are still trying to figure it out what the problem is. Anybody else with the same problem, the gas gauge? We love the car, really over all it is a great car, we just hope the gas gauge will be fixed very soon.

Strength:

Very Low Maintenance Engine
Nice Handling
Very Spacious
Good Visibility

Weakness:

-Had problems with defogger. It doesn't do the job very quickly. Even if you you turn on the defogger, driver vents are still blowing air. Checked with the honda service, they said there is nothing much they can do about it it's by design.
-Radio Clock is always off by two three minutes
-This is a problem with many SUVs, but when you roll down the rear windows as you are driving, there is an unbearable whooosing noise that hurts your ears. I think this is an inherent design flaw.

I bought this car in November 2002. I was trying to buy an Odyssey, but there was a waiting list. I'm pretty happy with this car. I didn't have to do anything other than changing the tires and brake pads. I have never experienced any noise or anything coming from the engine or the frame. I have the factory installed DVD player and the running boards.

Never had a tow-home as yet...that's when I sell.
I haven't tested airbags of hish tensile steel as yet, buddy got hit head-on in a Ridgeline at highway speed from some "heart attack" coming the other way. He survived.
Yes the Pilot is 4400 lbs of secure, safe driving machine.

the only time I ever got it stuck when after taking a run at a packed snowdrift in Stratford Ont...had to Bobcat all around the pilot

Weakness:

some stupid Honda ideas about security. when I park in the garage at home, if the drivers window is down, but doors locked...if I reach in to unlock the door, security alarm goes off...so run inside, find the keys to disable the alarm. Has also happened on a jobsite. WTF

The dealer installed trailer hitch has spalled off most of the paint. POS

Hatch lift cylinders suck for the past few years

Radio clock has never kept proper time, was replaced under warranty several times

the extended warranty was a waste of money, any parts that failed barely made it over the deductable & never on the same dealer visit.

Bought this puppy new in July 2002
Dealer serviced, now ~ 180,000 kms
Traction contol not as precise as new

Moved to BC from Ont....more mtn driving so brakes don't last as long

Really poor mileage in cold weather,
-20F ...one can see the gas gauge needle move while driving. Crappy cold weather algorythm

Just got it serviced at Harmony Honda in Kelowna..$44 for just a oil change.
