Strength:

Smooth ride;Low wind noise; Quick, powerful but economical(19 liters/km at highways!) engine (4X2 4JX1 A/T Turbo Diesel Direct Injection DOHC 16V); Sturdily built (does not easily get "dimples"); great suspension; great sound system; spacious cabin and storage; and high resale value.

Weakness:

Front seats too close to the panel for a 6 footer like me; weak aircon but can be solved by having tinted windows;there might be a defect on the central locking system...and sensors(humming sound when I turn on the ignition); there is knocking sound everytime I turn left and tries to negotiate a hump; must improve its interior styling...

Generally, its a GREAT SUV! Excellent for city-driving and out-of-town long trips. Quite comfortable to drive and ride. I dont feel tired even after hours of driving it. I always strongly recommend it to my friends, relatives and business associates. Four (4) of my friends and business associates immediately bought it and they all love its performance. They all swear that they either keep it for good or buy the same SUV after their present Trooper gets too much mileage. I swear too! If you want GREAT VALUE for your money, go for the ISUZU TROOPER!

Its a lot better than Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol in terms of over-all performance, power and fuel economy!

Strength:

Big roomy beast-great for roadtrips. Solid 4wd if you use it. Big car, good sight lines-removed my spare and put it on the roof rack. Great utility vehicle. Can tow smaller items easily. Can haul many things, though you have to get a little creative. Still very solid @ 180K. Buy a used one because you can get a good deal on it and you will actually use it as it is intended. It really is important to find the right car though.

Weakness:

Weak acceleration. Dealers are dipsticks. Expensive AC work. Roadnoise is a part of ownership.Seat/Leg room.

purchased at a deal in fall 97-immediatly put $1500 in repairs and parts, new everything. Also a rear main seal, that was the bulk of the cost. Car had 120K when purchased, now has 180K. Find a good reliable mechanic and screw using the dealer, they don't know what they are doing half the time. EX-chattering, often reported, in valves can be remedied by replacing hydraulic idle arms-under $200 a side. Since the big overhaul I have added a water pump, muffler, starter, and speed sensor. Steering getting a little sloppy. Tranny seems to be slipping some (Auto). Big expense came with AC needing evaporator cooler-$950 ouch ! You can find good add ons if you look-grillgaurd, roof rack etc. I would replace the intake with a new system from calmini-more HP and slightly better mpg. This thing will never be fast off the line.High band rpm is ok but it howls like a beast. The Auto trans is weak, and I have a towing pkg. I have blown out the springs in my seat. This is a great car, provided you are buying for the right reasons.

Strength:

Value.
Initial Quality.
Solid design.

Weakness:

Greenhouse effect => tint the windows.

Needed (wanted!?!) 4X4 for go anywhere/anytime daily driver. Used on-road exclusively. I purchased the deal, not the vehicle. Great rebate, good trade-in allowance, and a fabulous warranty.
Now have 20,000+ miles (2500/month)on the beastie and I love it. It is comfortable on long trips, roomy, good payload, good visibility, reliable, and drives extremely well. Trooper delivers in Spades!!

Strength:

Reliability. Never had any major problems.
Highway mileage at about 21+ city at about 16+.
Visibility.
Hidth.
Handling.
Fun 5-speed.
Its extremely quiet. Virtually no wind noise. The Bridgestone Dualer ATs hum though.
Cargo room.
Leg room.
Seating for 5 ADULTS.
4 wheel low is very strong.
The engine has 145,000 miles on it and is like new!
An over all GREAT truck!

Weakness:

Slave cylinder on the clutch went out at 80,000 miles(oh geeze).
The starter went out at 100,000 miles, so my dad had it push started and screwed up the fly-wheel. We still havn't replaced the fly-wheel but at 145,000 miles it won't start, so I guess we have to replace it now.

This is a great truck! We've had it for a little more than 9 years now. It's only got a 3.2, but it seems peppy with a 5-speed and a K&N filter charger. Its solid. Its was a great value! I enjoy driving this truck. Its great for screwin' around in. Its fun offroad too. Its been very reliable over all these years. This truck has been through hell, but my dan't said we shouldn't go through high-water. It's been there for us all the way.
One time my dad brought it home and it looked like he had backed into a tree. It turned out that he was at a stop sign and got rear ended from a guy goin 55 without ever touching his brakes. Then the Trooper literally went into the air and slammed into the back of a firebird, then the fire bird went into the back of another car. The car that hit the Trooper was totaled, the Firebird was totaled, and the vehicle in front was damaged badly. yet my dad drove home looking like he backed into a tree and drove into another one. The driver seat bent backwards though.

Strength:

Never had a problem getting anywhere. Outdoor parties, camping trips, it did it all. Good, solid four wheel drive. Kept me safe on slippery, wintery roads. Lots of room in the back.

Weakness:

Very slow off the line. Don't expect to hit 130 km/hr very easily. On the other hand, I guess that's not what this truck is about! Make sure you take care of the engine, or you will pay! Don't turn too quickly, the Trooper's high centre of mass makes tipping the damn thing possible.

I first must admit that the price paid for this vehicle was in Canadian dollars. That aside, while I did find it to be very roomy, powerful, and durable, it did have many problems. First off, the engine leaked forever. I had to take that damn thing back about seven times before it actually stopped. Next, the radiator had troubles. The coolant hose constantly needed replacing. Faulty calipers ended up costing me a small fortune to replace the rotors. All in all, an expensive car to maintain. Crappy seating too. While there was lots of room for my tall frame, the chair's back fell out on me.

Strength:

pretty strong V6, visibility, turning radius, warranty

Weakness:

radio is a little weak, sounds like the speakers are getting overloaded sometimes, gas mileage isn't great: 15.6 mpg so far (lats car got 22 mpg)

I got this Trooper about a month ago, brand new for $7K off the sticker. I love it so far. It's a smooth ride. The warranty is great. It's pretty agile for something it's size.

Strength:

Roomy interior, sufficient power, reliability, ruggedness, price (value), good ride for an SUV.

Weakness:

Could use a little more power, a little more comfortable seats, and better tires.

This is one well-built and solid SUV. I'm ashamed to admit it, but in 50k miles I've really knocked the heck out of it and it still keeps going. I've hauled gravel in the back, took it on roads that were so rutted I didn't know how I'd get through, and on and on. It has NEVER let me down. It's one tough vehicle. Plus, it's been 100% reliable in the two years and 50,000 miles I've owned it. I'm so impressed with the Trooper that I'm buying another one for the family. This is coming from someone who owned an Explorer and a Mitsubishi Montero.

Similar Products Used:

Explorer--Trooper is much better; Mitsubishi--more reliable; 4-Runner--way overpriced.
