Strength:

Great in snow/mud etc.. Went throw a drift up to side mirrors no problem.

Weakness:

Replace GOODYEAR RTS tires they suck. Bought Dunlops 1/2 the price and great in slippery conditions. Not a commuter vehicle w $3 gas only gets 15 mpg around town

Puchased in 2000 with 18k. Only issue was problem with drivers power window but that was fixed under warranty. Now has 70 K trouble free miles. Friend has 99 with 200K on it.

i love it except for this problem

my jeep has just recently had tranny issues. once i reach 30 mph the engine will rev and rpm's will build but mph's will not rise. i called the dealership with the codes but they will not tell me what the codes translate to. basically they want me to bring it in so they can charge me 65 dollars per hr to tell me what it means. any how if anyone has any info on this problem please let me know what it is. i was curious if maybe it is the clutches or valve body.

Weakness:

transmission

The transmission on my 2001 Jeep Grand Charokee Larado went out on me at 56000 miles. I did not even a get a waraning. The transmission never slipped nor did I have any problems with it. It just went out and then the check engine light came on. After having the transmission replaced a cylinder went out causing me to pay bad money after bad. In talking with my repairman he has had several of the same vehicle in his shop for the same exact thing. The only thing was that they were 2002's and 2003's. In talking with a salesman that used to sell Jeeps. Chrysler has know about these problems for years and has done nothing to resolve the problem. NO recall or nothing. These are just a few incidents that I know about. Who know how many other situations like mine have occured. Total waist of money. I will never recomend that anyone buy a Jeep vehicle. I hate this vehicle. A co-worker of mine was thinking about buy one but I talke him out of it.

it's gots power. roomy enough to carry passengers and music gear. been off road few times without any issues. looks cool because it's jeep. it's black. yep. i like cheese.

Weakness:

gas mileage sucks 15/20. thought about a secondary economy car due to my 25 mi drive to work everyday, but i will not get rid of my jeep.

i bought the jeep cherokee 3 years ago (78,000mi) realizing that my old mitzutrashy pickup couldn't carry more than 3 people on a regular basis (unless your a hill billy) and take my musical equipment to gigs, so buying the jeep was a logical choice.
after about two weeks, the engine blew out. knowing that the scumbag car sales person neglected to tell me this pending the sale of this vehicle, i turned the company into the bbb. they were forced to either give my money back and mitzutrshy back (trade in), fix the vehicle, or face a lawsuit. well, they sold my trade in so they installed a new engine for me. woo-hoo! i won, hahaha! ...made them fully service the trans when the did the engine and had a itemized sheet given to me when they were done too. the new engine hasn't given me a bit a trouble and has plenty of torque and get up to take me anywhere i want to go. next, about a year later we had a ice storm here in portland, or and the break's backing plate rusted itself from the rear axle twisting the cable and almost caused me to loose my breaks entirely. i luckly was only going 15 miles per hour when it happened and was able to stop saftley. cost me $500 to have a used rear differental and axle installed. had some minor electrical problems, but nothing serious (fuses, clock went out, etc.). nothing i couldn't fix myself. despite the fact the privious owner(s) treated the jeep the way they did (not taking care of the basics like oil changes causing an engine blow out at 78k), i love my jeep very much and hasn't given me one issue since the ice storm, and i plan keeping her for a long long time.

Strength:

Excellent looks and performance. On and off road. Small turning radius, compact size yet plenty of cargo room. Loads of power from the bullet proof engine.

Weakness:

Chrysler doesn't make it anymore.

I have had four Jeep Cherokees. A 94 and 2000, which were issued to me by the Department as a police cruiser, a 96, which was road and crash tested by my teenage son, and the 2000, which I recently purchased. I have had no problems with any of them even after well over 100,000 miles. Even after my son wrecked the 96, we repaired it and drove it for years before selling it to a friend who now drives it. The vehicle handles and looks great. I had to shop over hell and creation for a one with less than 70,000 miles and was tickled to death when I found the 2000. Chrysler really screwed up when they discontinued this vehicle.

I must say that i absolutly love my XJ it has very well proven itself offroading it will totally out due my 91 S10 Blazer but ive had quite a few problems with it at such a low mileage 72,000 replaced front and rear driveshafts and all U-Joints, and at 73,000 Replaced 4.0L Engine which has recieved Premium Maintainance Only Mobil 1 Syn Oil and engine gave up ive heard such good things about these 4 liters and ive had nothing but problems now at 75,000 the new engine has a horrible tap in the lower end and oil pressure sits at 12-15 PSI at idle where as the old engine sat at 22-23 PSI at idle im sorry to say this but i am about ready to give up i mean the truck looks and smells new and i love it its like my child but just cant deal with the problems my 93 Lumina APV with 296,000 Original Miles on the engine ran and sounded better then this jeeps engine i will never in my life buy another jeep even though all was covered under Chrysler 8/80,000 warrenty

Strength:

Extremely strong power train. Powerful 4.0L 6cyl engine. Can still throw you in the back seat under hard acceleration. Excellent offroad capability, comfortable on road - still looks good after 14 years. Good mileage, uses regular fuel.

Weakness:

Rust. Floor needs replacing. Rust around windshield and rear door handles needed to be repaired. Complete paint job. For some reason not all of the vehicle was zinc-treated.

The Jeep was purchased in 1994 with 70,000 kms. Now (2006) it has 355,000 kms. Engine oil pressure has never changed since date of purchase. Power has remained constant. Transmission and transfer case have never been problematic nor have front and rear differentials. Vehicle has displayed astounding reliability and longevity. Has never left us stranded. Have always received excellent dealer service. Some body deterioration which has been repaired but virtually all repair items have been due to normal wear.

Replaced by the queer looking Liberty that uses IFS, and a V-6. :(

This is my other Cherokee, a 2000 model with nearly 40k miles not, bought with 24k 4 years ago. I have not had any issues with this one other than one bad fog lamp(poor design). This vehicle has great power, great handling, and easy to get parts/accessories for. I wish Chrysler still produced these!

Do not manufacture anymore(GREAT BIG MISTAKE), a few cheap electrical parts.

We have had our 1999 Cherokee Sport for 4 years now, and we absolutely love it. Minor issues when we bought it include inoperative fog lamps, and the transfer case lever rattle. Since then it has needed only minor repairs.
