This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I have had nothing but problems from the very beginning. My Jeep has been in and out the shop about 6 times in the last 5 months. My check engine light comes on constantly. The Jeep dealership is giving me the run around. My mechanic changes something new every time. It's in the shop as I right this. I had to rent a car and this time it is going to cost me $750 and it is not guaranteed that this will fix the problem (something about the rocker arm). I am thinking about going upside down on my loan just to get rid of this vehicle. I have two girls and my husband is out to sea. I cannot keep leaving work to bring my vehicle to the shop. I am very annoyed and will put on facebook and myspace a warning to everyone not to buy a Jeep. I would not recommend any Jeep ever.

Strength:

Absolutly none.

Weakness:

Rough and noisy drive. Little to no heat distribution to driver side floor and too much heat on face from defrost vents while dial is set to "floor".

Purchased 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport one month ago. Test drove it in warm weather, no use for heat at that time. Drove it on the first cold day and witnessed no heat going on the driver side floor, when dial was set to the floor. A large amount of heat coming from the front windshield defrost area. Brought it to two dealer ships and both stated this is the design. My feet/legs are cold and my face is burning up. The passenger side has good floor circulation, but still too much heat from defrost vents causing too much heat on the face. My passengers also complained. Two seperate mechanics also took this vehicle for a drive and witnessed the same problem, without me telling them the problem. I want to return the vehicle and get my 2007 Grand Cherokee back but dealer won't take vehicle back. I am going through Chrysler and they are investigating the matter. My wife has a 2007 Jeep Liberty and it is great. It does not have this problem. I am a person who likes the heat on the floor when I put the dial on "floor" and I like my feet/legs to be warm. Heat rises not falls. If you don't mind cold feet/legs, a hot face/stuffy nose and pass out while you are driving, this is the vehicle for you. This is a design problem. The duct for the driver side floor is too high in the dash and does not deliver enough force to reach the floor area. So by the time the air reaches the floor it cools. Even if the duct was positioned differently and enough heat was being distibuted to the floor on the driver side there is still too much heat comming from the defrost vents on top as you drive.

Strength:

Does good in the snow and 4WD.

Weakness:

Too numerous to list.

This is the most uncomfortable, mechanically troublesome vehicle I have ever owned. It's my fifth and last Jeep product. Service techs can't ansqwer questions and Jeep customer service is unresponsive.

Model Reviewed: Jeep Liberty Limited

Strength:

Looks, off-road ability.

Weakness:

The build quality is poor and the level of equipment, even in the supposedly top-end Limited, is merely average. Comfort is poor, due to hard suspension and seats that you sit *on* rather than *in*. Interior finishing is cheap, tacky and nowhere near as rugged as one might expect from a vehicle intended to go off-road. Interior space is cramped. Fuel economy is little short of appalling, and how does Chrysler manage to build a 3.7L V6 engine that only produces 210bhp?

This is my first Jeep, and it will be my last.

The Liberty seems to be proof that Chrysler is hoping that the Jeep brand name alone is enough to sell product. Sadly, outdated engineering, poor build quality and ruinous fuel economy conspire to provide a wake-up call that seemingly nobody at Auburn Hills is listening to.

The Jeep Wrangler may just be the all-time classic SUV. It's clunky and unrefined on-road, but it's a marvel off-road. The Jeep Liberty, however, needs to be as good on-road as it is off... and it doesn't even come close.

If you're looking for an SUV that will ferry the family around in comfort, look elsewhere. You will find numerous competitors that provide better build quality, more interior space, higher levels of equipment, better engineering and better fuel economy. You will probably pay more to buy them, but you will be buying a better car.

Strength:

Great handling, Good pickup, Adequate cargo area, Nice seating area

Weakness:

Gas mileage, Noisy like a truck

First truck I have ever owned, the jeep liberty over all is about what I expected. I study vehicles very close before I buy them. In this case well over a year. I typically buy a vehicle and run it till its well over 100,000 miles.

Like all vehicles there are good and bad things about it. The 3.7 liter engine is very good for this size vehicle. The one thing I don’t like is the mileage I’m getting around 17 to 20 MPG average and I mostly drive highways. I’m sure a lot of the mileage issues are due to aero dynamics. But it’s a jeep not a corvette

The front seating area is not bad and more comfortable then most trucks (it’s not a car seat for sure) with the seat pushed all the way back. But I can see where someone sitting behind me would have issues. With me being 270 lbs and 6’4” trying to find a vehicle I fit in well theses days is getting harder and harder. Most of the regular cars I sit in I hit my head on the roof. Cars are just not made for big and tall men anymore. The split back seat works great for cargo of most sizes but I will admit some things you would expect a SUV to hold it simply will not.

Safety reliability

I had a head on collosion with a stop sign, school bus waiting trailer, and a brick/log house - neither of the air bags went off. It caused me to have a cracked rib and severe brusing/contusions. A NEW 2008 Jeep just purchased within 2 months - nevered wrecked before and the airbags didn't deploy! Why?????

Strength:

Fun to drive
Small, but still enough room to carry lots of cargo.

Weakness:

Windshield cracked a lot in the first few years - I think it might be how it's angled.
This car is a one or two person car - backseats aren terrible. I've taken trips with 5 people before, but it's not ideal.
It's pretty leather - but I'm hard on cars and they got smudged and ripped and indented. I would have rather had a darker leather that wasn't so tight.
There isn't much room in the front seat for stuff.
The jeep is box shaped - so it tended to be loud, especially on windy days. It also got pushed around a lot.

My mom bought this for me after I graduated from high school. I had it for about 6 years, and we finally recently sold it. I drove it mainly on paved and gravel roads. I did go off-roading with it once, and my transmission died. The terrain wasn't that bad and I don't feel it was really my fault. It was still under warranty though so the dealer covered everything ;). I wasn't THAT punctual about oil changes, and I probably didn't take THAT great of care of my jeep, but it served me well. I didn't have any problems until it was over 100 thousand miles and that was just because my oil change place forgot to check the anti-freeze level, which led to HUGE problems. So we ended up auctioning it off. :(. This jeep was AWESOME. I drove it regularly in the Upper peninsula, in snow storms, etc and it was great. I only hope I can find something as reliable.

Strength:

Road handling is good. Would be a great car for singles or couples without kids. Still a tougher car than other SUV crossovers.

Weakness:

Not really anything to love in a Jeep. No low-end torque. Heavy. Poor mileage. No cargo room. Clone of other cars. Not a leader.

Jeep is no longer leading the market with tough work oriented offroad vehicles. Even though most people rarely take their 4X4's off road, Jeep always recognized that the rugged utility of a Jeep is more desirable, even (especially) if driven to/from work everyday. It seems that Jeep has now forgotten that key to their success. It's now Daimler Chrysler in charge and they are scaling back their costs and going after the RAV4 market with a clone. The Liberty is an average car compared to the rest of the market. It is heavy and large, yet very small on the inside. There is very little Jeep tradition left in Liberty. Work ethic is gone- this vehicle looks like a play thing. The engine produces OK horsepower, but only at very high RPM, which is not where you want to be every day. There doesn't seem to be much going for the Liberty. A previous Cherokee owner will be let down. Liberty = poor gas mileage, excessive weight, poor low-end torque, weak independent front suspension, low cargo capacity. I had to give this car back to the dealership right away.

Strength:

The V6 has plenty of power, got a speeding ticket first week I had it, didn't realize I was going 45 in a 35...oops. Plenty of Towing capacity, towed a trailer over the weight limit accross the country and never felt I had a problem.

Excellent Heater in the Winter.

Handling is very solid for a small SUV.

Handles great in ALL weather conditions, if you know how to drive in bad weather.

Weakness:

Back seats don't lay down completly flat when you need to use the cargo space, but hey that's not so bad.

I don't care much for the 2008 model, they clearly ripped off the body from the Nitro.

I am just over 60k miles and the brakes are in good condition. Looks like I can go another 15 or 20k before I need to replace them. As long as you don't drive hard they will last, Liberty is a light vehicle and the brakes will last longer than the usual 40k with normal wear and tear. Always buy a good warranty when you buy a used vehicle. I get anywhere between 15 and 19 mpgs in the city, depends on the traffic, and 20 to 23 mpgs on the highway. When I was driving all over the Rockies last summer, the Liberty would lose power climbing some of those upgrades, however, I was also using the AC. The liberty will automatically turn off the AC and redirect the air to blow through the defrost and your feet while doing this, then when it doesn't need the power anymore it will go back to AC and the settings you had. It will also not blow air on you when you start the vehicle up. In the Summer and the jeep has been sitting in the sun, it wont blow the air at you if you have it set to do so, it will blow through defrost vent and at your feet until the air is a better tempature. That is so great, I hated starting up a car and getting blasted in the face with super hot air in the summer or freezing air in the winter. I put some really nice tires on, and the road noise is very quiet. I test drove a 4x4 desiel and it had a smoother ride, but hey its a Jeep, thats part of the fun.

I have taken this Liberty all over the country, in the snow and its awesome. I don't have the 4x4, I didn't feel like waiting, and I don't really go off road to the point I would need the 4x4 option.

Best car I have ever owned, and not looking to get rid of it anytime soon. Safe, great ratings for saftey, reliable, Service depends on the place you take it, but I get great service. Worth every dollar!

I have only had to bring the Jeep in for Oil Changes, and no other issues. The foot room in both front seats take a little getting used to at first, they way they laid it out is different. However, I don't even notice it now.

I am now a big time Jeep fan!
