Strength:

1. Excellent Paint job. Still looks very fresh. 2. Good engine and transmission. 3. Excellent Sales person (if you pick the right person) at Benzel Busch (Mr. James Wiecenski). 4. Great service department- very good!!!

Weakness:

1. Everything!!! (lots of small things that irritates you).

I must be one of those unlucky user of ML. ML is one of 3 MB I've owned. C280 and E320 is very good but ML320 is a major dissppointment. 1. Took over 2 month to fix my remote/locking system. Took several visit to service detp. and spent most of days during 2 month period. 2. Lots of noises/rattlings. Dealer replaced most of rubber and seals. 3. had to replace the break pad and rotors only after 25K miles (yes, required to replace the rotors - major cost.) 4. Driver side Window didn't work - twice - switch button/module had to be replaced twice. 5. Rear spring broke (I don't do off roading or heavy loading), cost $2300. 6. Driver and passenger side seat control knobs all fell apart.(this is very typical in many of plastic parts - they becomes loose or fell apart). 7. Rear passenger side door handle BROKE! 8. Sunroof seal/rubber just falls apart. 9. Just hard to believe that this car have to use the break pads that causes so much break dust on the wheels. etc.... Bottom line is that this is not really the Mercedes. It is trying hard but this car used very CHEAP Componets everywehre and you can tell. Erogonomic is really bad. No considertaion for the drivers. Radio signal is most terrible. It is worse then even the most cheap cars. AM reception is hard to get out of city area. MB said they had made thousands of improvements - they are admitting they've had problem with ML's. However, it looks like its more then just replacing those parts. Its a basic design issue. Also, pick your sales person wisely. Talk with different sales person and pick one that you are most comfortable. I've had worst and the best from the same dealer.

Strength:

It may not be the ML 55 but I think it still has a lot of power for an SUV.

Weakness:

I'm right handed so it's awkward to have the drink holder on the left hand side of the steering wheel.

My ML is a solid silver that exudes nothing but elegance for a hot chic like myself : ). I was not too keen on the body style but the interior is something that I completely fell in love with. Bluish grey leather interior with wood panelling. It is simply amazing.

See reviews. And growing...

I'm back. Wrote a prior review (from L.A., car was in the shop at the time of writing previous review). On the phone, making another appt. for service. The service light has come on, sunroof froze (for a day) and is making a terrible cracking noise when moving up/down the track. I'm dying for a Volvo or Nissan. Am buying a burial plot for this lemon. This may sound like a joke, but I've got to keep my sense of humor. My service records speak for themselves. Oh, my battery just up and died also. Mercedes replaced it w/out any explanation as to why it may have died. I ask the serviceman if he wanted to buy it. He said he had a Nissan and the repair bills were higher. My reply: Ok, but if it doesn't break down as much, it's a moot point, isn't it?...

Strength:

Power, safety features, handling, navigation system. Great service experience at dealership.

Weakness:

Location of cruise control stick too close to turn indicator controls. It is too easy to inadvertently engage the cruise control when getting used to the car. Not a problem anymore. Great brakes but wear out too quickly. Count on a $600-700 break job every 20,000 miles. I don't think I drive that aggressively to wear them out so fast. Cost should be included in warranty at least for the 1st 50,000 miles. Gas mileage is not great but it is within expectations.

I am on my 3rd ML product and have been very happy. My 1st was a 1999 ML430 that my daughter inherited when I purchased my 2002 ML 500. Only minor issues with electronic locks and right before I traded it for another ML 500 (2003) it started using a lot of oil. The 2002 has had no issues. The 2003 had an infant failure of a coolant hose that caused overheating but was repaired promptly. Towing and a loaner car (C-class) was provided. Both the ML430 and the 2002 ML 500 have required frequent break pad replacements. Otherwise, I have been happy with the three vehicles. They are fast, safe, stable and so far, pretty reliable. The GPS Navigation works great for my teenage girls to be able to find their way around town and have gotten me out of many unknown places reliably. The sales process at Star is excellent - great price with minimum hassle. Cars have been ready for pick up within hours and have been well prepped. Ken Hodges has been around forever and treats his customers very well. I do my service with Mercedes North dealer. Star location is too incovenient for service events since it requires me to drive into heavy in-town traffic. Service at Mercedes North is great. I have a great relationship with service rep that I've been working with since 1999. The sales process at Mercedes North is terrible. They are more interested in selling you what they have in stock than finding what you want. Not very aggressive in pricing. Overall a very good experience with MB.

Excellent handling and braking for a SUV. Okay acceleration. Good mileage for SUV.

Weakness:

Too much plastic inside the vehicle.

Great car! I have read all of these poor reviews on this model and just hope my vehicle doesn't have all these problems in the future. We have taken this vehicle on many road trips and have loved the way the vehicle handles and drives. Vehicle runs and drives like new with no problems at all. Great car so far, we will have to see what happens.

Everything... I lived in the service department. Warning lights would come after leaving service department.

This is not my 1st Mercedes Suv, it is my 2nd. Im thinking Im getting a safe vehicle with all the bells and whistles. I was involved in a serious collision and this machine folded. Not one airbag deployed and my passenger and I both received injuries. I wouldnt tell any one to purchase one of these vehicles.

everything

This was my first & last mercedes benz product. I have had my vehicle in for repair so many times & for everything mentioned here, as I write this it is being repaired yet again. On my last repair I borrowed a friend's Hyundai Santa Fe & realized mercedes took me for a ride. The build quality of the Santa Fe is far superior for half the price.

Strength:

Rides reasonably well, Snob appeal.

Weakness:

Oil light comes on between oil changes, fake plastic wood trim, door panels are rattly, plenty of other unfixable rattles, many things have worn out that you wouldn't expect at 65,000 miles.

Bought it used a year and a half ago, always dreamed of owning one of these when they came out but didn't want to wait in line and pay a premium. They finally depreciated into my price range and I sought out the best condition one I could find. The dealer had one that was just traded, great condition, and the popular silver color w/all of the bells & whistles. Starmarked, new tires, most of the "kinks" worked out as I could tell by the service records, I was a happy caqmper. The car felt "heavy" and more substanial than the Expolorer and Grand Cherokee's I have owned in the past. I was excited about owning a Mercedes and privately snickered at all of the suckers that spent 27k on a new pathfinder or Expolorer when they could get a Mercedes. Well, over the last year and a half, the joke has been on me. My once a month trip to the service department has been for all kinds of rattles and malfunctions that I felt would not be part of Mercedes ownership. All of the facts that I was blinded to when I bought were becoming evident. The fact that it was made in the US to hit a price point speaks volumes for the integrity of this car. Basically, if you read the reviews here on this car it tells an accurate story and there is really no need to invest in to one of these unless you want a Mercedes that bad and have the energy to deal w/the service issues. After a year in a half, I longed for a reliable car and bought an Acura MDX, couldn't be more relieved and happier.

Power. Not too bad of a "Truck" feel. Turning radius is short. Easy to wash and wax. Love having a manual adjusting seat instead of waiting for the electric. High Miles but Drives tight..like one would expect from a Japan or European car.

Weakness:

$4 Qt of Mobil One every 1200 Miles. Assembled by Hillbilly's in Alabama.

90,000 miles. Knew previous owner. Bought from Lexus Dealer he traded it to. Has had no problems except oil consumption. 1 QT every 1200 Miles. Hard to believe some of these reviews. Although my Acura may have been built better. Would I buy new for $38,000+ ? NO WAY. 4 years old for $13,000? You Bet !
