Strength:

Many, as stated above. A pleasure to wash, wax and drive around. Great visibility in traffic or on lonely country highway! Great ground clearance.

Weakness:

A little sluggish on acceleration and hills until you learn to anticipate and use the accelerator/rpms. Not a lot of torque. This is easily forgiven for such a wonderful car! Roof rack loads on top of sun roof. After a heavy road trip, this caused slight sag in mechanism on one side and a drip drip in rain. Have to get in there before winter and figure out how to fix. Any hints out there? (logossd@aol.com) LOVE MY MONTERO ! Does anyone have any info/insights/comments on changes from '95 - '99 ? I'm thinking about getting a '99 with lower miles.

The '95 LS Montero has been my first SUV. I've had it for 3 years with zero problems. Take long road trips. Tow medium trailer on trips. Do serious off-road. Mom runs the kids around. Is very well made in and out. Stuff does not break or fall apart. Cool, intelligent dash. Cockpit lights very effective and pleasant. Sun roof super. Is very sharp looking. Beautiful interior. Power ok once you get used to the quirky but reliable transmission. Overdrive button useful. Acceptable fuel mileage. 20 on road.

Great deal on this 2003 leftover montero xls with the touring pkg (rear ac etc), got below invoice and $4000 rebate on top of discount. So far love everything about it. Hope it is as reliable as my 2000 isuzu trooper that I traded in on it (got a decent trade in price also from the dealer). very pleased. Gets a lot of attention on the road.

Update to my previous review. I now have 35,000 miles on the car. Have just about wore out the first set of tires. Have had absolutely no problems with the car.I had the radio replaced under warrentee due to static, but otherwise not even a rattle. One set of brakes and oil changes are all the repairs done. This is a great car

We bought our Montero used and was very happy with it until our vacation in Canada. Our Crankshaft Pulley fell out on a very trecherous road at the end of our vacation. We had to have our Montero towed from Canada into Washington State. At the Mitsubishi dealer in Washington we were told that this type of problem was on a recall. So thinking what a great company Mitsubishi is that we didn't have to worry. Well of course we were told by the Mitsubishi Company that our specific model did not fall under the recall. I asked them to please explain how what happened to our vehicle is exactly what was on recall and that we were not covered. I did not get a reasonable answer. I want people to know that we had 2 of our small grandchildren with us when this occured. This happened on a very narrow two lane road. Thankfully no one was injured, but believe me that could of easily happened. And now the company is not standinag behind thier own recall. This is sad. An exhausting and troublesome ending to a wonderful vacation. I have been reading up on some of the recalls from Mitsubishi and I was dismayed to see that they have admitted to covering up consumer complaints for 20 years. Believe me we are finished with Mitsubishi products and we will try to convince anyone who is thinking of buying from this company to rethink thier decision.

Strength:

Lots of room for 5 person family car has smooth ride, and great looks. Big sun roof and beautiful wood grain interior with full leather.

Weakness:

Car has less than 20,000 miles and I already had to replace all the break pads for $500.00 because of how heavy it is to stop. The car could have more power to it also and way better gas mileage. But I love the car so far.

Beautiful car with luxurious interior for the low price. Love the dual seat heaters, and rear air and all the extras. Definately love the appearance and ride. I love the way the third seat tucks away. This is my favorite car so far.

Strength:

Value. Dependability. Aesthetics. Quality built cabin and body. Great visibility from cabin. Nice cabin lighting. Integrated foglights are perfect.

Weakness:

Must drive slower at turns due to top-heaviness. Resale value has been a shortcoming for monteros.

Had the truck for a year and was hesitant to write a review due to the bad press regarding reliability and stability. I tow a 2800 lb boat easily and have needed only regular oil changes. Truck runs great albeit slightly underpowered for quickly accelerating hills. Four wheel disc brakes are easy to work on. It garners much attention from folks and includes all the necessities I desire and more. Got heated leather seats, fold-away third row seats, power lumbar, automatic with manual shifter, etc.. A bit top heavy I've learned to not drive SUVs like small cars because they aren't small cars. Recommend Goodyear LTX tires for improved street driving as it provides a wider traction. If you're interested buy one used and you can't go wrong.
