I feel lucky that I leased my 2002 Bravada after receiving TSB 003019 (engine cylinder failure). GM's offer of 7 years 100,000 miles warranty for repair is not enough for a car this expensive. I have searched the Internet for info on this notice but only found Carreview and an Alldata site that had limited info. Does anyone know how many defects have been reported for 003019? Whatever number it is, may be low as most 2002 still have under 30,000 miles. Also, when a GM dealer resells a 2002 Bravada with this defect are they required to divulge that engine is known to be defective? Buyers beware - my Bravada will soon be at a car dealership waiting to be bought by an unsuspecting soul. This is my second 2002 Bravada. The first one died on the way home from car dealership. After 2 attempts to correct problem GM traded me for another. This one has died on my wife twice but restarts after about 15 minutes. Olds has no idea what causes this. Taillights (circuit boards) have been replaced 2 times. Mirrors have a mind of there own and will not hold resets.

Strength:

Nice looking, good interior features, rides good in bad weather

Weakness:

Breakdowns, Breakdowns, Breakdowns. The vehicle always had some problem with it from the heater core, to replacing almost every electrical part in the car, to numerous oil leaks and other fluid leaks, squeaky brakes, gaskets and intake valves. It was the most unreliable car I have ever owned.

Worst vehicle I have ever owned. I think the dealership was repairing my vehicle as much as I had the Bravada. I had some trouble with the heater core, even though GM knows about the problem in a memo saying that the Dex-Cool needs to be replaced or it might lead to rust in the heater core causing plugs, the heater core to blow cool air and the engine overheating. If you have had similar problems I have the executives numbers and maybe if enough of us send letter we could be reimbursed. This awareness might also help owners who are unaware of the problem to get the Dex-Cool replaced before their warranty expires.

Looks GREAT! Nice interior-mine is leather. Great sound system. Has a stong engine. Rear seats fold down really easy, great for hauling things.

Weakness:

Had to replace the o2 sensor. the bearings in the driver side door are going out. Mechanic told me its a common problem with bravadas. Gas mileage isnt the best. LOTS of noise from the cheap plastic.

It's been a pretty decent car. Not any major problems, just your basic upkeep. Handles really good on and off road. Gas mileage isnt the best, but what do you expect from an suv? Overall i think its a great vehicle.

Pretty ?

Weakness:

Poorest overall quality vehicle ever owned, nothing fits right, all five doors leak dust, dirt etc. hugh piece of plastic on front (bumper cover) moves around 6 inches-squeaks, rattles. Vehicle wonders all over the road.

Oldsmobile official notice # 003019 sent June 2003, to all owners of 2002 Bravadas, informs owners that all vehicles have possible defective engine, that may suffer complete, catistrophic engine breakup (disintagration) with no warning. GM flatly refuses to repair/replace this defective engine. Engine breakup, in trafic, will be causeing deadly accidents. Gm has left all owners with a dangerous, greatly devalued vehicle. GM refuses to abide by their own contract.

everything except it handles great in rain and snow

I dont even want to hear "Bravada" In the three years we have had this truck we have replaced most everything except the transmission... and that's weak. I kept sinkin money into it because I loved how it handled, and really loved the truck when I bought it used. After all how much can go wrong?? First the injectors.. cat. converter, sensors, then the engine blew up. Alternator, some wiring problems, the fuel gauge... some more wiring problems, and thats off the top of my head. And it all started at 65,000 miles or so. I could see even after 100k but sheesh :(

I love the AWD feature. Good gas mileage, comfortable ride.

Weakness:

none

When I firs bought my Bravada the service engine light kept coming on. I had it back at the dealers 4 times at no cost to me. They finally figured out they forgot to hook up a vacuum line. Since that it has been a great SUV. No problems at all. I get good gas mileage and it's a smooth riding truck.

Great looking car. Lots of room. Comfortable. Many features.

Weakness:

Many problems listed above. And I'm sure I will have more problems in time.

Great looking car and very comfortable. Many problems so far. Had the transmission rebuilt at 63,000 miles. Power Steering pump was leaking so I had it replaced. There was an oil leak. Ball Joint Seperation in the front end so that was replaced. Truck eats a lot of gas for being a 6 cylinder with medium power. Have heard from others that the cooling system will lead to major problems like blowing engines or heater cores. What ever you do, If you buy a '97 bravada, Make sure you get the warrenty like I did because I know you will use it.

A LOT

After picking a few mind's of our local mechanic's I find that GM started using a engine coolant from Texaco in the mid ninetie's that start's crystalizing after an extended period of time and becomes the consistency of a milk shake. This clogs up the cooling system which keeps your aluminum transmission cool. Are you getting the picture yet?? The trannys are a 700 series which is weak anyway and cannot stand the heat. I bought a extended warranty at the time of purchase,Feb.2001, and in August had to have a transmission but the company would not put a new one in just another used one, with the same result's a year later only this time no replacement. This is all a direct result of GM's flagrant disregard for the consumer, they were aware of the problem yet chose to ignore it and let us poor dumb consumer's foot the bill.DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE .

There are none.

Weakness:

Poor manufacturing and GM does not stand behind their product. Bill Heard hires public relation people instead of service people.

Well, it looked and drove great when I drove it off the lot but it's gone downhill quickly. It died in traffic because of a defective computer chip. Then the mirrors would not hold their setting, another defective chip. I took it in to the dealership 5 times to have the same windshield leak repaired (I should have pursued the Lemon Law), a dealership problem. And now the transmission shifts so roughly that it drives like it has 300,000 miles on it. The dealership says that it's a problem with the Bravada but don't worry about it because other Bravada owners have complained and they couldn't get GM to buy their cars back. This is not to mention the 2 recall notices that I had to take the vehicle in for but the real winner was a notice that the engine cylinders may be defective but that GM was extending my warranty on the engine to 100,000 miles. This does me no good because I bought an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle but what this effectively does is reduce the resell value to $0.00 because who would want to buy a vehicle with the risk of catastrophic engine failure. GM and Bill Heard need to be sued and I will pursue this. If there are other Bravado owners out there, let's do a class action suit. Down with GM, they build a lousy product.
