Porsche Cayenne 2004 - 2010 SUV | Crossover

DESCRIPTION

The 1st generation Porshe Cayenne was Porsche's first SUV. Adhering to Porsche performance principals and the true purpose of an SUV, the Cayenne was an able performer on all fronts. Capable of tackling serious off-road terrain and deliver sporting fun on the tarmac, the Cayenne proved to be a winner despite the Porsche purists crying foul.

The all-wheel drive, five-passenger Porsche Cayenne is available in a V6, an S, a GTS, a Turbo and a Turbo S trim. The V6 is powered by a 290-hp 3.6-liter V6 engine. The S and the GTS are powered by a normally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 with 385-hp for the S and 405-hp for the GTS. The Turbo and Turbo S are powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 with 500-hp for the Turbo and 550-hp for the Turbo S. Notable features available on the Cayenne include: Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), a conventional moonroof or a panoramic roof system, Bi-Xenon headlamps, power memory seats, 4-zone climate control and a Bose surround sound system.

Strength:

Power, comfort, high quality of materials used. Tiptronice responds quickly.

Weakness:

Fuel consumption (but not outrageous given the amount of power) Back seats very firm, leg room in the back somewhat limited for tall passengers.

This is a very impressive SUV in terms of handling, acceleration and comfort. The drive has been outstanding. This car is extremely nimble despite its weight. The navigations system is easy to use and the instructions are very clear.

Motor is incredible. interior is ver comfortable and well appointed. The stereo is great. I am amazed that they could make a car this heavy handle as well as it does. Did I mention the motor?

Weakness:

Consumes gas and tires with enormous apetite. I am on my third set of tires in 11,000 miles. The Sat Nav system has gone out twice. The driver control center has gone out once. Questionable exterior styling. Be very careful in the snow even with snow tires!

This is a great car. The ride is great and the motor...oh! the motor!!!! this car raises the bar on the rest of the sport utility market. Mercedes and BMW make great stuff but this car is of a different breed. All of that said, I have had some problems though. See below.

Strength:

The ride, simply amazing (Quiet, tight, smooth, fast, corners as if on a rail) Luxury you would never expect this level of opulence from a Porsche much less any other SUV on the market.

Weakness:

Could have better sight lines out of rear window, Back seats could go totally flat like ML. Gas milage is very similar to my ML 500 and 430.

SWEET!! Okay, I kind of expected the handling aspects of this vehicle as it is a Porsche. After driving for a couple of weeks and 1000 miles it continues to amaze me. Fast, Quiet (very quiet), tight suspension (yet it mutes rough rodes), no body roll, tracks like it is on rails. Just darn fun to drive. Now I look for reasons to go out and I always take the long way. This is a luxury SUV it has features that many so called luxury cars do not have. The electronics on this vehicle are a very sophisticated and wonder to behold. The seats are the most comfortable I have sat in. Driving for long periods is very enjoyable and non-fatiguing. The sound system is awesome. The other SUV's I list below are not even in the same zipcode as this vehicle. Being an SUV owner since 85 I can really appreciate this vehicle. It looks better in person then in pictures. I have no off road experience with this vehicle, but then who will take a $60K + vehicle off road. Rides 5 (people) quite comfortably and still has room in back for your gear. Porsche hit a home run with this vehicle!

Strength:

Smooth ride on the freeway, very quiet, good cornering, well engineered.Accelerates quickly with no effort.Good view ahead with windshield and at night with Xenon lights.Worth the wait. Obviously, a well thought out design.

Weakness:

Fuel consumption. The rear wiper spray valved weeped a bit, but was replaced at no charge.

Excellent vehicle. Fully loaded on options, as ordered. Handles well, especially on turns, accelerates well, and air-tight quiet.Good, quick hill climber.Lots of room, lots of looks, and lots of compliments. The computer control over this car is probably the wave of the future for most vehicles. 2nd Porsche,( 88 911 ) but the Cayenne is the best to drive !

Strength:

Engine power, Beautiful Finish, Stunning Interior. (Mine has Sat Nav and Air Suspension added), Handling, Load Lugging, Interior Space, Comfort, Its a Porsche!!

Weakness:

Fuel Consumption (UK fuel price is 3 times USA), Odd Styling (which does grow on you)

This car is awesome. I have owned every brand of luxury and sports car including Ferrari, Porsche, Range Rover and BMW (including the very good X5) and I currently also own an Aston Martin V12 Vantage but nothing can live with the Cayenne for its comfort and all round practicality. I held back from buying one because of the looks which I admit are strange but not as bad in real life but once you have driven one you cant help change your mind.

Strength:

It is the complete package, on road performance, off road capabilities, and more than enough bells and whistles to keep you occupied.

Weakness:

14-18 gas milage isn't too much fun, rearward visability could be inproved, and of course the pricetag...

The Cayenne has been the best car I have driven to date. It has more than enough power to satisfy most SUV drivers, great agility, and isn't as commonplace as all of the other SUV's on the road.
