Strength:

V-6 engine; wide-stance; Seating positions; 4WD (high and low); automatic transmission is perfectly matched to the engine hp & torque; rear seats move forward/back; lots of little storage areas (the 2003 and 2004 models have even better storage); GREAT Value for the money; warranty is excellent; rear AC.

Weakness:

AC is weak (rear AC is AC only, not heat & AC); Get rid of the Bridgestone tires and get BF Goodrich; gas mileage; reslae value (still).

This is a very well made car, Suzuki keeps getting better ever year, its no wonder they are one of the best selling cars in Japan. I have had absolutely no problems in 18 months of driving.

Strength:

-Roomy -Comfortable -Nice, compact 4x4

Weakness:

-Faulty transmission: Reverse gear GRINDS horribly! -Poorly sealed doors...they sqeaked for the first 6 months I owned it. The dealership finally tightened up all the doors (including the back one) so they don't make annoying sqeaks...just like nails on a chalk board.

My Suzuki only has 7,500 miles on it. I have oned it since November 2002. When I put the car into reverse, it grinds horribly. I brought the car in to have it problem fixed and Suzuki told me that there is nothing they can do. The solution that they instructed me to do was: turn on my car, put it into 1st gear and then put it into reverse and it shouldn't grind. However, I was also told it may start grinding after a while, even though I followed their "solution" to the problem. Suzuki said they do not make a transmission that has a sychronized reverse and I would have to live with it like this. Is there anyone out there that has the same problem with a 2002 Grand Vitara V6 4-door SUV?

Strength:

fun to drive. reliabilty that easily matches a toyota. In a scale of 1 to 5 this rates a 6.

Weakness:

none

This is my third Suzuki and I can truly say these 4*4's are excellent. If your looking for a fun and reliable vehicle buy this. The vitara is even nicer inside then th sidekik. I have driven my sidekicks up to 200,000 with virtually no problems.

Strength:

Mileage is good. (Especially if part of the mileage the vehicle is being towed. It saves a LOT on gas!!)

Weakness:

It is MORE THAN DIFFICULT to find a service center for the Suzuki and they are very unreliable to work with!!

I am stuck in Phoenix right now due to the fact this is the SECOND TIME I have had to have the FRONT DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED on my Grand Vitara. I have barely gotten to drive it off road and now and I afraid it might not even get me home. I contacted Suzuki about doing a trade-in with me and they told me that is between the dealer and me, even though Suzuki sold me a LEMON!!!

I love Mitsubishi. I will NEVER BUY A SUZUKI product again!!! They are totally worthless if you have a problem.

Strength:

Good cargo room. I've carried a lawn mower, a 27 inch television in a box, and some bags of sand (12 each) with potted plants, and it handled the wait well.

Weakness:

Automatic transmission gearing does not utilize the full potential of the 155 HP from the small v-6 engine. You have to punch it to get the acceleration it needs for driving on to highway.

Nice to drive around town. Better gas mileage than your average SUV with a 6-cylinder, foreign or domestic. Had no major problems with it. One recall for fuel filter replacement, completed. Handles off roading like it loves it. This is my 4th year with it, and it has no rattles despite the firm rubbery ride of 40212 miles.

Strength:

Roomy enough

Weakness:

After 1 year the brakes needed replaced and the keyless entry didn't work any more. And after two years the air con no longer worked.

Nice little suv, but the wind does carry it away. It also does not have the speed to get onto an expressway, and if you do it kicks into gear to hard and jerks. I would not buy this suv again.

Weakness:

No pick up Too small Engine too small

No pickup and also makes a strange noise when in gear. I wouldn't recommend this SUV mainly because it has no power. Give me an 8 cylinder any day. Again, no power! I would not buy a foreign car again!

Strength:

Fun in the summer with the top off.

Weakness:

No control when the wind is heavy. Vitara is practically worthless once driven off the lot. Never again will I buy a Suzuki!!!

I bought the Vitara at 24,000 miles. I loved the look of the mini SUV. I had a regular 2 door convertible Vitara. After having to drive it during a windy day I was ready to get rid of it. I was blown all over the road. I could not control my vehicle. It was windy, but come on!!! Then came the next part trying to trade it in after a year. I found out the value had decreased by almost half! I went back to carmax since they promised to give me a better trade in value (yeah right) and they offered me 6,000 for it. I had just paid 11,000 the following year! We now have traded in the car last week for a 2003 Dodge Stratus and could only get $3,000 for it. I had only had it for a total of 2 years.

Model Reviewed: /Grand Vitara 4x4

Strength:

Good power and handling. Better gas mileage than most other 4x4 vehicles. Great turning radius and maneuverability. Excellent off-road capability.

Weakness:

OEM tires are inadequate for off-roading. Didn't come standard with a tow package.

A great small SUV that handles nicely on the road and gets much better gas mileage than the bigger SUVs. It also handles great off-road, and the short wheelbase and good low-torque 4wd allow it to go over almost any terrain. The OEM tires were inadequate, but with new BFG Mud Terrain tires it has performed beautifully. The interior is very roomy for a small car and cargo space is good. Unlike other small "fake" SUVs like the RAV4, CR-V and Escape, the Suzuki is actually a REAL off-road vehicle. And unlike the big monster blimps like the Suburban and Expedition, it won't get stuck in the sand. Overall, this is an excellent vehicle.

Good Looks Comfortable Ride Great Visibility 3rd Row Seating Smooth 4WD system

Weakness:

Poor Gas Mileage Poor Resale Value – If you keep it, who cares? Poor OEM Tires

Great vehicle so far. No problems (knock on wood)! I purchased this truck because it has the 3rd row seat and did not look like a MV. Wife loved the way it drove as did I. One of the best looking SUV’s on the road. I got the gold with gray leather. I have always used synthetic motor oil since new. Huge difference in power and smoothness. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone!
