Model Reviewed: 4x2 Rav4 with L package (automatic)

Strength:

Brand new look, I think it's good for those first mini SUV buyers.

Weakness:

Should have a bigger 4 cyl. or V6 engine as option.
Alot of standard features sell as option.

I finally choose the Rav instead of the CRV, because I like the brand new design of the car and Honda has no decision of the change of the CRV yet. I can't make up my mind for 6 month until recently, because I found a reasonable price with one of the local dealership. 4x2 with automatic, L package, rear spoiler, roof rack & power moonroof. 21500+tax & license.
As some owners post here, yes, it has a small engine. But did you guys test drive the car before you made the decision to buy it. or you guys have too much money, just walked in the dealership, dropped the money and drove off the car. If you did test drive it before you buy it. you should know all those weakness points and you still buying the car. That's not the car's fault, it was your own mistake, because you didn't considered carefully. Anyway I like it as a mini SUV. Fun to drive.

Model Reviewed: 5 door auto (83,000 mi.)

Strength:

-roomy for a little suv
-great in bad weather
-looks
-little maintenance (except for the transmission thing)
-folding rear seats

Weakness:

-TRANSMISSION!!!!!
-fuel mileage
-small engine

It had been a great vehicle until Toyota sent out a notification the transmission was being recalled. After having the transmission replaced with a new one it only lasted a year and four months(16,000 mi.). Now I'm in the middle of trying to get a new transmission out of Toyota. I understand there new transmissions are warranted for a year but c'mon. Especially after I told my dealer twice there was a problem with it before the year warranty was up and having it in for regular service. Besides that it's been a good vehicle although a little under powered. Overall its not a bad little suv. It's basicly my fiance's and she loves it. I guess maybe we just got a bad one.

Model Reviewed: Rav 4 AWD

Strength:

The colors that the car comes in
Very good in the snow

Weakness:

interior space cramped
car really only fits three people comfortly
gas milage bad for a four cylinder car
assessories began to break on the car in a short period of time (cup holder in back broke and replace twice and visor broke)
too expensive for what you get
lack of storage space
constant AWD car

I owned the Rav4 for only 15 monthes. The car was not appropriate for the size family that I have. I have three daughters and a husband. Eventhough, Toyota says that the car fits five it really fits four. The interior space of the car is small and cramped. The four cylinder engine is weak. Don't try to pass anyone on the highway unless you have loads of time. The gas milage is bad. I average around 17 miles per gallon. The design for a small car is nice and stylish. The 2001 Rav is even nicer. I couldn't take my daughters fighting about the crampness of the back seat anylonger so I recently traded the vehical in. This is the shortest time that I have ever owned a car. This is really not a true SUV. I have owned four jeeps (a CJ7 and three different Cherokees) and recently boutht a Nissan Xterra. The Jeep and Xterra are better SUV's for the money.

The abouve cars have alot more room. The CRV is very similar to the Rav 4. If you want a true SUV I fell the the Cherokee and Xterra are superior to the Rav 4. These cars have lots more space for people and things. The body of the vehicals is heavier and durable. Also, the Xterra and Cherokee have more options to their 4X4 capibilities. They have 2H, 4H, and 4L settings. The Rav is not an off the road vehical! If you have a small family, need very little storage space, hate power and only use this car in the snow it is the SUV for you!
