Strength:

Enough room for family of six to fit comfortably and it's nice looking

Weakness:

EXACTLY--it's W E A K

This vehicle is a rip-off. It is the most wimpy car I've ever seen. Continual problems with alignment, tire balance, and service in general. I thought by paying a little higher for a "sturdy, dependable" (haha) car, I'd get my money's worth--NOT. NO TOYOTA AGAIN--good thing I leased instead of purchased--I won't be stuck with it. It's gone at lease end FOR SURE, with a replacement of a Chevy or Ford.....

Strength:

Powerful engine, no hesitation, plenty of head and leg room.

Weakness:

Gas mileage averages 14 (not the 17 I was told), dash controls for CD, radio and air/heat are kind of far, have to stretch to reach (distracting while driving). Windshield wiper setup is very awkward. Car revs up when first accelerating more than expected.

Great SUV! Still feels sporty enough to be sports car but with tons of room. My sister had a 2002 that I loved, finally managed to get this one. After driving it, the Suburban felt like a UPS truck and the Expedition felt very stiff. Had to go back to the Sequoia. Very roomy for tall family, plenty of storage. Rear window that slides down very useful (unexpected treat!). Lots of little extra details for storage added that the Suburban and Expedition didn't have. I'm graduating from a Ford Windstar to this...a cool car. Woo Hoo!

poor service

I have trouble with a vibration in the vehicle. You can fill it on the left side. left back and front seat shake visibly. I have taken it to a Toyota Dealership 4 time, alignment shop once and a tire dealership once. Each visit within a month period, I was told that the tires were out of balance. Each one would balanca again. Common knowledge: you don't have to balance your tires three times a week, month or 3 months!!! The dealer where purchase said they would make it good and put on 4 new tire, but wanted to charge me for them (the vehicle has approx 11, 000 miles at the time). They put the tires on and balanced them. It was still doing the same thing, so I drove it straight back to the local aligment shop and had them check it. The again told me that the tires were out of balance. ( I didn't even tell them at first about the new tires) The problem is still not corrected and I am getting nothing but a run around. The service manager at the dealership said it was supposed to ride like that. I have friend who have sequois and don't have this problem and have driven them new (like this one) I need help from someone in trying to locate a Toyota headquarter for the upstate of S.C. to get this corrected. Other than this problem, I love the vehicle.

If you think Toyota always did a great job to make a car and if you think your Sequoia SUV is dependable and reliable, you could be wrong. There are coolant pipes being routed from the front to the end under the vehicle which are not protected or covered by anything. So they are very vulnerable to road hazard. Little rock or piece of wood could do big damage to your SUV, since those pipes can be easily broken by those upset rock or wood. You may think Sequoia is big SUV, it should be more resistant to those minor road hazard, think about it again. It happened to my 2003 Sequoia when I was driving on HW 35W. Something hit my SUV bottom and broke one of those coolant pipes. As you may know, road hazard is not covered by warranty, so I have to pay all the repair cost. I called Toyota customer service and tried to claim it as Design defect, because I believe Sequoia was designed as Off Road drivable SUV like they said in owner manual, Toyota should consider routing those critical pipes differently, either protect them by shield or hide them inside car. But Toyota denied it as design defect. I was told it just my bad luck. I send my car to Freeman Toyota dealership to replace the broken pipe. The dealer underestimated the difficult to replace those pipes at first time, but when they try to replace the pipes, the maintenance advisor told me, he began to agree with me, it was nightmare for them to replace those pipes. Toyota installed those pipes between the vehicle frame and body, it is so hard to replace them at original position. The mechanic almost wanted to take my new car to body shop to separate the vehicle frame and the body in order replace the pipe. It supposed be one or two hours job, but end up taking two days to fix it. The repair is costly and time consume. This happened to me, this could happen to you also. I still believe it is Toyota design defect, Toyota should recall this SUV and fix that problem. If only I called Toyota, it is not a big deal for them. If a lot of owners called, thing could be different. We need do this together to protect our consumer rights and prevent this happen to us in the future. If you think Toyota should fix this potential problem, please give Toyota a call and tell them your concerns. The phone number is: 1-800-331-4331. I also noticed another problem about this SUV, sometimes the oil gauge will point to zero (lowest scale) when you driving speed between 60- 75 mph. It will come back to third scale of the gauge, but back to zero position again. I ask dealer to repair it, but they could not find problem. A mechanic told me it was defect to this SUV. If you noticed this problem also, you need tell Toyota and fix it, it could give you fault information in the future and could damage your engine.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Sequoia SR-5 2WD

Strength:

Power, Ride, Comfort, Build & Materials Quality, Great JBL Stereo, Side Curtain Airbags.

Weakness:

Some Interior Trim Pieces Rattle, Dash Ergonomics and Back Lighting Need Improvement. Limited Trim Level a Rip Off Versus SR-5 Trim Level.

My Favorite Vehicle Purchase Ever! Prior cars include 3 Toyota, 1 Mercedes, 2 Infiniti, 1 Saab, 1 Lincoln & this Sequoia is the best. I cross the Mountains regularly to visit clients & Sequoia has plenty power at 8,000 feet above sea level while staying flat & stable in tight turns. Great seats in all three rows. Best milage in class of large SUV's. Smooth sedan like ride and little wind noise. Handles like it is smaller than it is. Some small rattles in interior trim but not enough to disturb. More expensive Limited trim level is a ripoff - go for carefully optioned SR-5 and DO include the JBL stereo (it rocks!), the sunroof, and the side curtain airbags that cover the Sequoia's side windows in case of side impact or roll-over. Interior trim quality superior to all class competitors - even better than the flimsy trim in the Escalade and goofy plastics in the over priced Chevy Tahoe based Hummer H-2. Center Dash controls could be better organized and dash ergonomics could be more user friendly - but that is it! Dis Truck Is De Best !!!!! Now I gotta buy one for my wife !!! Internet Dept at Michael Toyota (Fresno, CA)gives trouble free deals via the web and fax. List - MSRP - on my 2003 Sequoia was $38,500 and I paid $32,800 Ask for Evin and tell him Rick Bennick sent you. You will save a fortune!!!!!

i wish they would put a headlight warning bell on, also an automatic foot brake release, lets be real we all left them on one time or two also noticed oil pressure gauge reads low all the time, the dealer was aware of this problem when i called them ,and they replaced it with an up dated one no questions asked, so for all that noticed the same problem call your dealer

i just got my seqouia recently and is far better than my 98 4runner smoother ride and more power and room overall i'm pretty happy

egg like smell through vents radio controls to far noisy front and rear airconditioning can't judge distance when parking noise and pressure when playing the radio while window are down

I had my eye on the Sequoia for 3 yrs after test driving the Land *Cruiser and having it not live up to my expectations. I went with the SR5 and did after market add ons, because it was more economical. I am a 5'5" female and love the sense of power and security it gives me. By far it's the most aesthetically pleasing SUV on the market. I love the roominess. Looks intimidating, but a breeze to drive. It's softer less masculine exterior works for me. Compared to my 2D GEO Tracker I am in heaven. The stereo system is great. I love the cd changer, only wish it would allow you to shuffle cds. Because of my height it is hard to see over the steering wheel and hood. The power seats on the driver and passenger side have limited positions. My pros outweigh my cons and for now I am proud to be a Sequoia owner.
