Strength:

Sharp looking truck (yellow Z71 package)

Weakness:

Misfire in cylinder head

I really like to style of this truck, but it has been troublesome from the get go. I have owned this truck for 2 years. In the two years Chevy has had it in the shop a total of 4 months. It seems there is a design flaw in the new inline 5 cyclinder. I have had the heads replaced 3 times. The last two times the dealer assured me that the new heads were completely redesigned, but yet the problem did return. I have lost faith in the new 5 cyclinder motor. About every 15000 miles I get a check engine light which requires the heads being rebuilt. I am on my 3rd set of heads and have about 5000 miles on the last totally redesigned head, we'll see if this one holds up. I really have no choice since I am upside down bad.

Weakness:

No exterior passenger door lock, doors leak (carpet wet behind drivers seat), not very quiet inside (wind blows through doors on highway), suspension creaks likes it 20 yrs old, engine has no power (5 cylinder), tailgate latch feels like it's going to break off when I open it (cheaply made), passenger tires (PT) on an off road package instead of light truck (LT) tires, mileage is terrible in town, engine hard to access if you want to change plugs, etc, not enough tie down points on bed. It's been to the dealer and everything is ok with it. Worst purchase I ever made.

Purchased the Colorado for MPG and I'm extremely disappointed. Only get about 17 in the city and my '92 Silverado got 14 with a 350 and 170,000 miles on it. Highway milage is quite a bit better but not a good trade off.

Weakness:

heated seat button is easily accidentally pushed while getting in because of its location on side.

I love my Colorado! I got the sunburst orange color and have recieved many compliments. This is my first truck and I can't say enough about how great it is. I have had zero issues and I have put 49,000 miles on it. It is extremely comfortable and tows our boat with no problems. I did at the K&N Filter though.

The truck?? itself, no resale value, gas milage, comfort, quality of paint job, interior, (pull on top of fender and see how far it pulls out) performance (no power unless you rev up to over 3000 rpms

i have read reviews. evidently some trucks were built better than mine. I tried to trade and was offer 6500.00 for mine. 2 years, lost appx. $13,000. I was told I was upside down as the resale/ trade in was not very good. Good luck to all who was unfortunate enought to buy what I consider a waste of money.

This is a great truck. It gets 20mpg around town and is very tough off road. I have been towing over 4000 lbs without problems and plan on installing a K&N filter for more towing power.

Strength:

Good in snow
Good mileage for a truck
Good power for a 4 cylinder

Weakness:

No passenger side lock
No std power steering with the ls package
Rear suspension tends to sqeak when truck is filthy

I bought my colorado new last april. I have owned 3 straight GM trucks before that, which included a s-10 blazer, sonoma, and s-15 sierra. I like the truck, beats my sonoma 4 cylinder 120 hp handsdown. Disappointed with the no lock on the passenger side and the "power package" you need to buy for cruise control to come with it. I need a truck for my redneck activities and I feel it handles that well. I am not one of those guys who take out their brand new truck muddling in crap up over the hood, especially considering the thing isn't paid for, it's a truck for working, not jumping barn silos and out-running roscoe with a box full of moonshine like bo and luke. Buy a quad or 69 charger if you want to do that. AND I bought a 4X4 because I live in western NY and I like to be able to get around in the 9 months of winter we get here, my s-15 was the only thing better in the snow I've ever driven, that thing was a tank. My mileage is a combined 22 city/highway and last week I drove to syracuse and back and got over 25 per gallon, which is better than my sonoma. Doesn't really knock my socks off, still room for improvement. GM has surpass how good the s-10 was for the past 20 years

Looks nice

Weakness:

Misaligned hood with play in latch that creates a safety issue.

Really disappointed with the dealership due to one simple problem. The hood latch. There is extra play in the hood after it has been latched. I walked around the dealership and tested 6 other Colorados; 3 had the same problem and 3 did not. Rather than send it to their body shop so a qualified technician could work on it; they've had the mechanic "tweak" it...3 times now and still the same problem exists. I say it's a safety issue (picture hurricane force winds here in Florida and having your hood fly open!) I definitely won't be buying GM again and I've been a GM owner for over 20 years.

Strength:

Excellent power to weight ratio.Steering feels firm and responsive. Gauges and indicators are easy to read. The controls are easy to operate. Smooth ride.Looks sharp.

Weakness:

I don't like a hood that needs a prop rod to hold it up; on any vehicle.

Many people complain about the "cheap plastic" interior. Plastic, yes;cheap,no. It feels like I'm going 35 MPH when I'm actually traveling at 55 MPH. At first I thought the speedo was way off, until I confirmed my speed with a GPS unit.I towed a 2 axle, 8x12,enclosed trailer (with trailer brakes),fully loaded, and was not wanting more power or torque except going up the steepest hills on Interstate 77.That was the entire length from South Carolina to Ohio. The trailer had the maximum tongue weight and I had no sway problems.I made a panic stop in the rain,(not while towing)and the ABS brakes did not pull or skid. My overall average MPG is 22.4;and that is in Florida where the the air is hot and humid. I've read numerous reviews about the Colorado before I bought it, and I don't understand the negative comments. I haven't had the same problems. This truck does what I bought it for:commuting, light truck duties, and fuel economy.

I have had the truck for 6 weeks and am well please. A better ride, quieter and better gas mileage than my Ranger had.
I just drove 3500 miles from CO to Alaska with a camper shell and fully loaded with household goods. Got 20 miles to the gallon for the trip there are lots of steep grades on this trip and never lacked power. Nice truck, so more power and still quieter than the ranger.

Model Reviewed: Chevy Colorado Z71 Crew Cab 4X4

Strength:

Excellent Power/torque
Well laid out and room interior
Excellent exterior styling
Great Handling

Weakness:

Lack of High end torque
Plastic brush gaurds
Absolutely crap stock tires (replace them as soon as you buy this vehicle!!!!)

I bought my '05 Colorado in August of '04 and have had little problems with it. It has great power, i have the 3.5l I5, although it does lack decent higher end torque. I did do a couple upgrades to my engine though, air aid filter and box upgrade and a transmission tuner. Many others have complained about the gas mileage (i get approx 17mpg city and 20 highway with a VERY spirited driving style) you NEVER get what is on the sticker, not even the hybrids. This is NOT the fault of the company, this is the fault of the EPA. They are using standards laid out in the mid '70s.

The Handling is excellent. Turn radius is excellent and the steering responsiveness is great. Acceleration is good and braking is very responsive. There is very little sway noticed when cornering and, not that i've replaced the tires, there is very little vibration. The suspension is a little stiff but that's because its the Z71 package.

The interior is excellent and has plenty of room for me to be seated comfortably (i'm 6'2".) All the Guages are easy to read and well laid out and everything is easy to reach while driving.

The only couple complaints i have are one, the tires. the stock General tires...well, they blow. I had one the first set replaced due to vibration and the second set were no better. I ended up getting a set of Yokohoma tires. Second, is the word "offroad" tied to this version. i took it offroad and, though it handled well, i ended up shorting out the alternator and having to have the power steering unit replaced (i went through mud holes where the water was about 1" from the bottom of the windows.) I also tore off almost all the plastic brush gaurds from the underside of the truck (why plastic? why not metal?.)
