Strength:

AC is COLD! Comfortable ride Great ride height

Weakness:

2.2L is underpowered

Nice little truck. 2.2L Engine is waaaaay underpowered and there's no real low end torque to speak of. I knew that when I bought this truck and am not dissappointed by it (Besides, headers and upgrades are relatively cheap for the S-10 series if you want to pep up you 2.2). Bottom line is: Don't expect to impress anyone at the track and don't think you're going to haul the yacht to the marina with the 2.2. The trick is gradual acceleration. If you punch the gas you won't get anywhere fast. But, if you accelerate smoothly, you shouldn't have any problems with most traffic situations. It's very practical for my needs which are hauling my bass and guitar euipment from gig to gig. And all of my and my friends' dealing with the S-10 (4.3 and 2.2) have been nothing but great! I'm looking forward to having this truck for a long time

Strength:

-Mileage -Reliability -Standard tranny as option -Excellent first car -

Weakness:

-Only a 2-seater -Chipmunk 2.2l engine, but it gives sufficient power for just going from A to B

This is a pretty awesome truck. I love the mileage it gets (about 24mpg). It is my first vehicle, and it seems pretty reliable. When I got it, the body was pristine, but it had 145,000 on it. When in 3rd gear, it kept popping back into neutral. Also, the main blinker switch in the steering column was on the fritz but I replaced it. The model I have is the lowest, base-line version with nothing extra. No power locks or windows, no auto tranny, no AC. But when I got it the previous owner had added stuff like a tonneau cover, custom rims, sunroof, and tinted glass to make it a sweet ride.

Strength:

Good engine. Good mileage. (I've gotten 24hwy) Ext Cab very useful in a pinch. Small trucks work better in tight inner city use. Went mudding with some friends and there was enough ground clearance that I didn't bottom out on anything.

Weakness:

Coolant system made of plastic that cracks and sprays coolant on you at 80mph. Poorly designed EGR system clogs itself and make the truck run like crap.

Got it in summer of 2003 to replace a car I lost in a car accident. I got it with 98000 miles on it. It has 112000 on it now. Only problem has been with the cooling system. The radiator cracked and is leaking. The heater core also blew and sent coolant all over the cabin when I was on a road trip last winter, so that wasn't cool. I had to cut some hoses under the hood and bypass the heater core by clamping them to a rachet socket. Worked like a charm, like truck bypass surgury on the side of the road in 25° weather. As reliable as sunrise except for cooling system failures and the Exhaust gas recirculation system, which is currently causing the truck to lope in ideal.

Strength:

Acceleration, initial quality, engine quality, off-road and in-snow performance, highway mileage.

Weakness:

Post-warrant quality, secondary systems, maneuverability, ride, in-town mileage

Great initial quality...but immediately after the warranty expired, everything went to pot. Even with extensive preventative maintenance and only 48,000 (mostly highway) miles on the truck, I've had to replace the entire electrical system, exhaust, transfer case, alternator, and fuel system. And now, the rear rotors are going bad...there's another $500 down the tube. I think you'd have to shoot the engine to get it to stop running, but all the peripheral systems are poorly designed and built. Also, the Extended cab model is not very maneuverable. When I bought it, I lived in the West so it didn't really matter, but since moving to the East Coast megalopolis, it has been a continual challenge to drive on narrow streets, make sharp turns, and finding on-street parking large enough is a total drag. The extended cab doesn't give a lot of inside cargo room due to the design. The truck has been great for camping trips and I had no problems getting around in 3 feet of snow. But all in all, I'm not happy with the vehicle.

I have let this truck run forever. I checked the oil in it and there was no oil on the dipstick, and at one time it was knocking, I put oil in it and after year it is still running good. I have the 4-cylinder, 2.2 size engine and it is great on gas mileage. I checked it several times and it got right at 500 miles to a tank of gas and that is CITY miles. Great dependable truck. I think that all Chevy's are this great.

Weakness:

Power steering messed up. Have'nt got it checked yet. Otherwise great vehicle.

This is THE MOST dependable vehicle I have ever owned. I have owned it for almost 4 years and I have gotten double if not triple from it what I paid for it. I have been rough on this truck and it has yet to die on me. I had to put a clutch and transmission in it once, but which was my fault.

Strength:

- Parts like brakes and tires seem to last forever. - Plenty of aftermarket parts available for those like myself who like to customize. - Drives well and looks great.

Weakness:

- The 2.2 4 cylinder engine is an underpowered piece of junk but I've heard the 6 cyl is nice. Luckly there is plenty room for a 350 if you wish. - The so called back seats are only good for smaller children or maybe a midgit. - Stock suspension is too high and bouncy for me but nothing some drop coils and blocks won't fix.

I Love everything about my truck except the powerless 2.2l 4 cyl, other than that it is a great vehicle for all purposes. I have 80,000 miles on it now and have had almost no problems at all. It's still on the same four tires that it came off the lot with and they have minimal wear except the rear passengers side has a nail in it and loses pressure which I need to get off my ass and fix. The brake pads I've only replaced once and are said to be in good condition. I had to replace the clutch at 42,000 miles which is really early but I suspect the owner of it before me was rough on it. I like this truck so much that I have decided when the engine finally gives out instead of buying somthin new I'm just going to throw a V8 in there :)

Strength:

Great 4.3L engine. Attractive shape. Affordable. Good fuel mileage.

Weakness:

Front suspension design causes poor ball joint life and tire wear.

Overall this truck has been reliable, comfortable, and a good purchase. I love the shape of the truck and the push-button 4wd. It's had relatively few problems in it's life--now at 106,000 miles. The biggest complaint is that it wants to eat ball joints pretty regularly, starting at around 40,000 miles. It's chewed up three so far. Also, it tends to wear the outer shoulders off the front tires, even though I don't tear around corners in this car. I save that action for my sports car. It also suffered total catalytic converter melt-down at 100,000 miles. The engine is rock solid and the tranny is acceptable. When I was shopping trucks in '95, the Nissan and Toyota both felt like tin cans with poor interiors and poor exterior design. Both the S-10 and the Ranger felt more substatial and had better, quieter interiors, better engines and better tow ratings. Overall they looked like better values for the cost. It came down to which dealership had the right truck with the right options at the right time.

Strength:

other than the sliding i thought it was SAFE, felt SAFE, and was very cheap to maintain.

Weakness:

hard to install a decent speaker rear system, slides alittle too easy, if you in the rain and going up a U ramp on interstate and rev rps you may have to use the 4 wheel drive to get back on the ramp (been there done that). mine was also alittle heavy on gas, wich is why i got rid of it, kinda regret it, but wanted something alittle sportier.

I bought this after getting nervous over every scratch my new truck had, i wanted something i could kick if i got mad and not worry about the resell value. This truck literally had a personality. after 200k miles the engine finally blew, put a rebuilt one in at $1500, wich is pretty cheap, reason is there is alot of them out there. I was in a auto accident and T boned a little plastic car wich ripped its rear end off tottalling the car, the truck however had a very minor scratch on brush guard. When i hit the lady it felt like i hit a speed bump, and saw the lady flying around in her little plastic car. Can't say enough about good old american steel. (and brush guard). It did have things go wrong with it, but when it did they were cheap to fix and lasted for long time. Now because of its heavyness, it does tend to slide if you brake heavy or in the rain, very dangerous for tail gaters. I drive like a grandpa when i'm not t boning plastic cars so it wasn't a big deal for me. not sure about the newer trucks, but can't go wrong with the model i bought, its well worth fixing up and a great safe investment! I notice since i bought my toyota MR2 i get cut off more when driving in the city, i think the brush guard really helps detor that or punishes those that aren't careful.(HEHE)

This truck is so awsome. It beats the mercury mystique by a long shot. Dont ever buy those, they are a huge waste of money. Back to the s-10, it's a great little truck, and handles the road very well. I'd like to recommend this truck to all those chevy fans out there.
