Strength:

V6 has got some pretty decent power, rides nice on the highway, have the standard cab, little low on leg room but overall fairly roomy. Like the handling, seems to handle heavy loads pretty well without losing lots of power. Love the looks and the interior is pretty comfortable. 2WD gets around great in the snow with a couple of sandbags.

Weakness:

Fuel mileage (or course). In Nebraska you have to have a front lic. plate which they mount so low that I've lost it 4 or 5 times on not-very-steep driveways. Had some minor problems i.e. new battery, overheated (fixed), diff. seal leaked. The worst part however is the Dodge Dealership, does horrible body work, and always does everything half-ass and takes twice as long as promised. I love the truck, but I wouldn't buy one just for the fact that I would have to deal with Dodge dealers and service yeahoo's. Rather pay for warranty repairs than take it to the Voodoo hut shop.

Love the truck, as long as I can keep it full of gas it's given me no problems. Hit broadside by an F350 going 60 neither my roommate nor I were wearing seatbelts and walked away totally unhurt, gotta give it props for that! I would recommmend it to anyone, great looking truck runs great for work or play. Just be careful of those Dodge Dealers.. Have no idea what the "five star dealer" means.

Strength:

Beautiful truck and color. Great ride, nice stereo. 4.7 ltr engine has great power, pulls my camper with ease.

Weakness:

I got everything you could get in a truck, power windows, overhead compass, temp, gas milage, which is not good at all but it is a truck with a powerful enging, i should have spent the extra money and got the power seats. The seat are very uncomfortable and the interior is cheap plastic. After a year my head light, fog light switch broke off while driving. Hopefully the extended warranity i bought will cover this and I know it will. Cant drive in the rain with the window cracked because the rain will come into the truck. Not much leg room in the back although i dont really have many passengers. I hope Dodge will get better interior controls that will not break after a short period of use.

I love this truck, only been down one time since i owned it, covered by warranty fixed the same day. Its been very dependable, powerful, fun to drive. It handles the road smoothly and is very precise on turning. My have to put stiffer shocks or springs on back camper makes the back go down quite a bit. May lose my smooth ride. This truck also fits into my 20x20 garage easily.

Strength:

Room for family of five, great for hauling all kinds of sports gear and dirt. Looks nice, feels good to drive.

Weakness:

Trouble with the gears. Surprised? What is it with North American makes and reliability?

The dealer almost had me (and my husband) convinced that it was my bad driving(been driving standard for 24 years without any gear problems - other cars of course).Reading the reviews I realize that I'm not alone. Apart from the occasional unexplained stalling while shifting from 2nd to 3rd, experiencing major problems with the gears locking up and not being able to shift at all. Went to the dealer 3 times. They could not duplicate the problem. Upon the third incident it stayed locked up and it's at the dealers as we speak while I get depressed about reading everyone else's reviews...

Model Reviewed: Dakota V6 4x4

Strength:

My Dakota is very reliable and its still in good shape for a 89.
With the 4x4 great snow and wet roads.

Weakness:

Gas Hog, its unbelievable how much gas this truck needs(12-17mpg),but its a truck.
I have 5 speed and if the streets are wet, the traction is zero.Don't get this truck as a 2 WD, you will be lost or you will have to have your bed filled with sandbags to be able to drive if the road is not dry.
Interior quality is poor,Not enough hp for the V6

I am using my truck every day and it has a total of 136k miles.
I drove 30k miles with this vehicle now and never had any problems.
IF you want a cheap reliable truck the (old)Dakota is the way to go but considering the gas prices over $2 a gallon you better have your wallet ready.
Dodge was never able to build one of his trucks with a decent gas mileage. Happily Mercedes bought Chrysler and the Germans can show them how to build cars and trucks with an acceptable gasmileage/power relation.

Strength:

Gas milage is great. The new 4.7 is backed with all kinds of power, along with the new multi speed transmition. This is an extremely fasttruck. I have put a Mopar Performance computer and a Dual exhuast made by gibson in it, also i have changed the instrument panel in it to white face, also a k/n air filtration system in it. Thats all i am going to do to it. The handling is awsome. I have the the wider tires on and it is just like floating on water going down the street. Roomy in the front. Excellent towing it is like a whole other truck with someting in the bed or with a trailer behind it.

Weakness:

Not enough room in the back seat!!!!!!

If i was to recomend this to any one i would say buy it in a heart beat!!!! For what you pay for it you cant go wrong.

Strength:

Power,(after it has been beefed up)great looks,great stereo system,handles great,great curve hugger.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, red is a great eye-catcher for the cop's, and they watch you

I would recommend this truck, because it is very fast and sharp. I don't know where these other guys got their truck at but mine eats mustang GT's for lunch. The truck when I first got it was fully loaded with a horsepower ratio of about 253-259 hp. Not bad but after putting a k/n filter which they call the ice-box, and putting an upgraded chip with some traction bars this baby will really go!! I go to the drag strip everyonce and a while and my truck runs a 9:08 in a 1/8, and a 14:23 in a 1/4, and all I had to do is put about 400 bucks in it. Now overall horsepower is a ratio of 287-291 hp, and thats very impressive. One nite I was side by side with a 98 mustang cobra, yes he beat me, but it was only by a half if a car link!! One thing to do is don't buy a ford lightning to much money. For the money you buy that for you could buy an r/t and beat anything moving on the streets. So in closing to the one's who rated the r/t very low, thumbs down and you must not have known what you have been doing when you was trying to beef it up-next time get online it'll help you. For the ones who gave the r/t a thumbs up .... MOPAR TO YA!!!!!

Strength:

Great riding truck. It handles like a car when cornering on slow corners. Four wheel drive has gotten me out of a few close calls. The interior has a large amount of room.

Weakness:

Gas mileage isn't that great. The headlights are a bit weak.

Overall, I think this is a great mid-size truck. It's not to big and it's definately got great interior room, unlike the S-10.

Strength:

-Very stylish,
-Quadra track works great in wet and snowy conditions
-unusually quite interior at highway speeds
-Good power

Weakness:

No third door option!
No tow hooks! (if you ever get stuck you have to use an axel to get pulled out)
-Sometimes shifts rough.
-long wheel base (dent on the bottom panel because of this)

I would recommend this truck to anyone looking for a stylish dependable truck and don't mind the intermittent rough shifting. I personally know two other people with 4x4 dakotas and they experience the same shifting problem. I hope this wont be a problem later.

Strength:

I have 364000 kms on the original 5.2L.Oil change every5000kms.Will pull south dakota out if a ditch.good looks and still a nice smooth ride. Will carry alot of weight.Still styling after 8 years. No rust yet. Cost of 4000 a year to operate. If all goes well next year the average should be$ 3100.This includes purchase price and repairs in canadian dollars ammortised over 8 years. No rips in the seats , carpet in like new condition 75% of paint brilliant shine .Very happy overall

Weakness:

As for the other 25% of paint its peeling and it pains me to see.The peeling is on the two tone champagne colour strip around the truck. If I wet my finger I can rub the primer off. Dealer said I should have brought it in last year and it would have been warranty. Not the answer I was looking for. There is a claas action suit happening on the west coast relating to this problem I shall wait till it comes to the east. Hane instlled two transmissions. Second transmiision has kit from calif. to rectify this fluid robing problem at high speeds. I do put alot of stress on my tranny so can't justify a complaint. Changed transfer case, ball joints galore, breaks 3 times rotors once. My tire choice for a Dakota is the Bridgstone Duellers. They make this truck stick like glue in the winter.Good warranty but would recommend the extended. Some dealers are not cooperative at all some reasonable but they all need PR courses. Wish I didn,t have to spend $3000 in tranny repairs every 120000Kms. The peeling paint shames me in public.

All in all I am very happy with my dakota, but I am employed in the Hospitality world and will bend over backwards for my customers. Therefore I expect the same treatment no matter how large the company. Being in the hospitality business I have a captive audience who are willing to listen to the pros and cons of my vehicle because they are mostly men fishing. Dodge better smartin up because looks will only get you so far. I only wish Dodge will change their ways because the F 250 looks pretty nice.
