Strength:

The 4.7L V8 seems to have plenty of power when operating correctly.I also really like the color(patriot blue)it's just a shame the truck has so many flaws and overall quality issues. The stereo in the truck is one of the best I'v ever heard, clear even at loud level's

Weakness:

Where do I begin?! Quality is my main problem with this truck. I'd like to know where Chrysler gets off charging so much for a vehicle thats of this poor quality. The electric seat has never worked right. Also I hear a new noise coming from the rear of the truck almost every day.The list of quality isues are too long to list. I know that dodge makes the best looking truck on the road, but dont be fooled by this. If you purchase one of these vehicles 2000 or 2001 you will be disapointed and really pissed off that you wasted your hard earned money on it. You have been warned.

The overall quality of this truck is atrocious. From the first day I owned it I'v had nothing but problems. Chrysler's unwillingness to admit
to the obvious and fix my truck inexcuseable. The problems I had range from the truck stalling (the timing curve was set wrong ),to loud ratteling comming from the rear leaf springs. My latest problem involves the keyless entry . My truck locks and unlocks whenever it wants to with no provocation. This means that when I think my truck is locked and the alarm set there's a good chance it's not. Also while driving the doors lock and unlock at will, mayby it's posessed I really dont know.Keep in mind that these are only some of tht problems. I would list them all but I need to go and see if my trucks been stolen yet.

The truck That I owned previously was a 93 Dakota sport so i cant realy compare it any other makes. I can however say that my 2000 model is no compareson to my old 93 Dakota V6. That truck ran like the day I bought it when I traded it in with 104,000 miles on it. I now wish I still had it.

Strength:

Easily towed my brothers Grand Am half a mile with a 14' nylon cord with ratchet. Twenty mpg on two lane mountain roads, 55 to 60 mph on a 170 mile trip several times a year. Has a V6 with a lot of get up and go, except on those steep mountain roads in northern PA.

Weakness:

Useless repairs for "check engine". At 29,000, the oil temperature sensor needed replaced. At 31,000 the battery temperature sensor needed replaced. It already has gauges you can SEE. Who needs computer sensors that just cost money to replace them because they're defective? Manufacturer needs to take a look at this. End of gear shift handle kept coming unglued and the plastic then broke. I did buy mine as a Chrysler buy-back due to repainting, with 9600 miles on it. Repaint job good so far, after 3 1/2 years.

Raspberry Red looks great with black smoke side windows and I added black running boards. I really like the styling of the Dakota better than any other and love that low even rumble when it idles. 6' Truck bed is perfect for my needs as a working mom with two children. Used for moving my brothers and hauling materials for home and landscaping. This truck looks great and most importantly, handles well around town, major highway or mountain roads. Extended cab just right the right amount of leg room for younger children up to age 8 or 9.

Strength:

POWER, fit and finish, ride, room.

Weakness:

The power door locks and windows could have been intergraded into the door better. Gas mileage (V8).

Great Truck, no major problems. Reliable, over kill on power (V8). Plenty of room (I have had 5 large adults in it several times). The only problems I had with the truck is a lower radiator hose burst and the drivers door became misaligned. Put 55,000 miles on it(one trip up to Upstate N.Y. and back) before the ex rolled it. It was used as a truck (loads of hay, pulled hourse trailers, ect.) and as the major family trans.
I would recommend it to any new family that needs the versatility of a truck and the room for a couple of young ones.

Strength:

looks good
lots of leg room in front

Weakness:

rattling engine
water pumps go
tape deck doesn't work
gas gauge failed
Check engine light always comes on

Really enjoyed my truck for the first 9 months. Then it started to have problems. The gas gauge doesn't work, Found that out when on the highway in the middle of nowhere and it said I had 1/4 tank and it was empty, luckily, someone stopped to help. My check gauges light keeps coming on. I have had it in to the dealer several times but they say nothing is wrong. My tape deck doesn't work. It likes to make a meal of tapes. My running lights will not shut off unless I unplug the fuse, which also kills my high beam indicator. the truck engine rattles like crazy, sounding like it is going to explode at any moment, especially when idoling and going up hills. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with it, that it was normal sounds. If that is normal then I would hate to hear what it sounded like when there is something wrong! I took it to my Mechanic that does my maintenance (Dealer way to expensive) and he said it is the timing chain and that it should be a recall item, but because it is not considered a safety issue the dealers won't do diddely squat. Apparently it is expensive to fix. The water pump has had to be replaced twice and the fan belt. I hope to be able to get rid of this truck soon. I hope that we just got a lemon, because I have heard many good things about the dodge Dakota, but I have yet to see much good.

Strength:

Looks, POWER. Even gas mileage. If anyone doesnt think that 18-22 mpg with a V-8 isnt good, you should consider an electric car.

Weakness:

Too much torque combined with a 5-speed and a 5.2L V-8 to drive in the snow, and for that fact, even in the rain. Its all over the road.

A very good investment.

Strength:

Acceleration, handling, driving comfort, LOOKS!, Bang for the buck!

Weakness:

Ummmm...the envy of others.

All I wanted was a basic truck at a good price that could tow when required. What I got was the fastest truck in production (without a blower!)! The SLT is loaded with A/C cruise control tilt steering most of the time you forget its a truck. The 4.7 with the 5-speed and 3.92 rear end on Dodge's lightest truck (3598lbs) has the kind of grunt off the line that can suck you into the seat and smoke your tires into oblivion. Once you master the power get set for some incredible acceleration an often reported 6.8sec 0-60 and 14.8 1/4 mile-off the lot! But this truck isn't all about the 1/4 mile. its a nimble handler well mannered, comfortable and well apportioned (in the SLT). The SLT doesn't look like the sport or R/T with a chrome grille and bumper it looks like a nice little truck until the light turns green! Wattta sleeper!
