Nice looking.

Weakness:

Everything but the looks. Dealers that just want to sell, heck with you after you buy. Dodge doesn't care either. You bought it SUCKER.

We have owned over 25 trucks and this was the worst truck we ever owned. The dealership we bought it from was the worst dealership we ever did business with. Very poor after the sale service. Dodge really didn't care, as long as the sales were good that seemed to be all that mattered. We had problems with the brakes, A/C,Trans shifting, poor power climbing hills, poor gas mileage. Changed rear end fluid twice in 75,000 miles, limted slip and the second change alot of brass and fluid full of muck. Would not buy a Dodge or any Chrysler product again. This was the first and will be the last.

Great Power, Comfortable, Quad Cab is awesome!!!

Weakness:

Bump in front when put in Reverse, will have it checked at next service.

I got my Dakota in July 2004, I absolutely love my truck, its very comfortable and it rides very comfortable with my dad and his wife. The truck lookes very sporty. It has alot of pep and I feel great driving it, I tinted the windows and added XM Radio to it. I have owned a Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier, and I would recommend this truck to anyone, I recently drove a 2005 and i dont like it, Its very square and it doesnt feel as powerful as mine.

Paint. Not comfortable on long trips.

Bought this truck new 11 years ago, only once was it in the shop for something I couldn't fix, (sensor). Now it has 80k miles on it and it sits alot which may be why I had to replace the leaking radiator and heater core. The engine runs like it was new with lots of power, (3.9 V6).

Model Reviewed: Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x2

Strength:

Looks. Power. Acceleration. Roominess. Dependablilty. Stereo second to none. Did I say looks? Daimler Benz as the parent company, now.

Weakness:

Gas mileage. 21 gallon gas tank. Needs 30 gallon tank with this mileage. 'Reported' problem w/ ball joints.

I LOVE this truck!!! It is the Dakota Quad Cab SLT (Plus) w/ 4.7L V-8 - auto with EVERY option except leather and CD Changer. (Infinity sound system is fabulous.) Blue/Silver. Had the spray-in bedliner put in it before anything went into the bed. Well worth it. I owned a 1989 Chevy Blazer (K-10). Chevy called it the "V-1500" in 1989. Drove it since it was new. I put 174,000 miles on it. I only sold it because a co-worker offered me $3,000 more than 'Blue-Book'. He now has 219,000 miles on it. NEVER had any problems with the engine, to this date. I had a problem with the paint on the Chevy. GM wouldn't stand behind their vehicle - I wouldn't buy their CRAP. NEVER again!!! I had the Blazer re-painted, locally, paint now like 'custom.' Incredible. Back to the Dakota. . . This Dodge is currently the best looking truck on the road. Bar NONE!!! The little 4.7L V-8 is strong as an elephant and pulls like one. I towed a trailer to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, loaded with furniture for my son, and the truck acted like the trailer wasn't even there! The transmission is supposedly designed by Daimler in Germany, and is touted to be 'Multi-speed'. I do notice a difference in shift 'harshness' when standing on the gas vs. going easy on the gas. Overall, the fit and finish of this little truck is great. No blems whatsoever in the paint. Nice, crisp lines between the colors. No squeaks, rattles. Great little truck. This truck doesn't handle like a truck. The ride is very much like a car. SMOOTH ride. (Especially since I drove the Blazer for all these years. It rode like a horse drawn wagon. . . ROUGH!) I do notice a little 'over-steer' with this truck, though. Great tires. Goodyear Eagle LTs. In wet weather, these tires act like they have glue on 'em. Great traction on dry roads. I like 'em. I have 22,300 miles on the truck, now. I change the oil every 3,000 miles. Filter too. Rotate the tires every 5,000 miles. I believe that if you take care of your vehicle(s), they will take care of you. Last Chrysler product I owned was a '73 Dodge Dart Swinger, bought new. This car lasted 2-1/2 yrs. (I did put 95,000 miles on it, though.) 225 cu. in. "Slant 6". Electronics in it were a joke. Replaced voltage regulator 6 times; electronic ignition module 6 times; alternator 4 times; battery 3 times. Transmission twice. Not a good year for Mopar!!! This vehicle turned me away from Chrylser Corp. for 25 years!!! I bought a new 1998 Dodge G. Caravan for my wife and have been back with Chrysler ever since. Best looking cars on the road. Back to the Dakota. . . I heard on the tv news about a problem with the upper ball joints on Dakota(s) and Durango(s). I had heard a 'popping' sound from the left front wheel. Took the vehicle back to the dealer - they swapped out the upper and lower ball joints. No argument. They told me that IF I had another problem, bring it back in. ONLY other problem was the fan switch. The contacts went bad, that left me with only HIGH speed fan. That was O.K. When this happened, the weather was HOT (usual Washington, D.C. summer). Took the truck in, the switch was replaced in 15 minutes. The ONLY thing that I don't like about this truck is the gas mileage. 10-13 mpg. in town. . . 15-18 mpg. highway. Mopar puts low-gear (high numeric value) rear-ends in their trucks. Gas mileage suffers because of it. Acceleration is incredible. I have 'shot down' a couple of Mustang GTs w/ the 4.6 mod motor in 'em. (1/8th mile, that is.) All in all, a dynamite little truck. I would have opted for the Club Cab, but, the Quad Cab has it's strong points of the extra doors, and a heck of a lot more legroom in the back than the Club Cab. I can and will recommend this truck to anyone!!! Heck, go out RIGHT NOW and buy yourself one!!!!! The Dakota is changing for 2005. I have seen it. YUCK!! Looks like a 'cross-breed' from the Ram and the 'new' Durango. Hey Mopar!!!! Don't change it. Why mess with something GREAT?!?!?

Strength:

1. Quick to accelerate 2. Quick to brake 3. Reliable 4. Easy to drive 5. Tons-o-torque 6. Comfortable 7. Decent sound system for those who care.

Weakness:

1. Noisy if you don't like noise 2. Gas mileage, not very good. But it isn't meant for commuting. 3. No room for four adults-but like I said, I don't really believe trucks are for hauling people places. 4. Not that great in the snow without weight in the back and snow chains.

If you want a truck that's a truck, this is your truck. No frills. Nothing to worry about. It will get your from point A to point B with whatever you put in it without any fuss. It's reliable, powerful, and fast. It's also very comfortable. This is my first car. It is very easy to drive, a bit hard to park because it's a truck, so that is expected. Basically, if you need a truck to use as a truck this is your truck. Yeah, you can stick people in the back seats. They won't have much room, but hey, truck's really aren't meant for carrying people except the driver and possibly one passenger. I love driving it. However, because of the gas mileage issue and also sometimes needing enough space for four or five people plus their bags, this beautiful truck isn't getting traded in for a Mitsubishi Mirage. I'll miss my truck though.

Model Reviewed: Dodge/Dakota AWD Quad Cab

Strength:

Until Chevy Colorado, Dodge Dakota had no competitors in the mid-sized market. Toyota is trying to get into the midsized market. Dodge Dakota has a clear lead in the midsized truck field due to availability of a roomy quad cab, multitude of engine options, superior warranties, more towing and haul lbs, and dealers who won't let you walk off their lot to buy another midsized.

Weakness:

When getting the vehicle serviced, if not at a Dodge dealership, make sure they don't mix your radiator fluid up. You have the 'YELLOW' radiator fluid which is good for 5 years and it will not mix with the green fluid. Only use the right kind of Raditor fluid or brake fluid or transmission fluids as they are all SPECIAL! Mixing them will damage your powertrain and violate your warranty! Point #2 is the 25 gallon gas tank. I would like them to consider installing a 35 gallon tank so that I can get a 600 mile range out of the vehicle. At least have this as an option so people driving from Oklahoma to Colorado might drive straight thru to the mountains on one tank.

The Dodge Dakota AWD Quad Cab is a magnificient vehicle to own! I have 'All Wheel Drive' AWD which is similar to the Jeep Quadratrac I've owned in a previous Jeep product from the 70's. There is a switch on the dash board which allows you to select between AWD, 4HI, and 4LO which makes going back and forth automatic. No turning hubs. I have the 4.7 liter engine which delivers 18 mpg on the highway on my first tank of gas. I anticipate another MPG or two after my breakin period has been reached. I have the QUAD CAB which is very comfortable/ roomy/ well lighted and because of the 4X4 suspension you are very high off the ground for good visibility. There are power windows and doorlocks all the way around with keyless entry standard. The Stereo is very good! Dodges latest AC system is much better than previous Dodge Vehicles. The last two Dodge product I've owned were a 1971 Dodge D100 and a 1976 Dodge Maxivan and the airconditioning and cruise control on this new 2004 Dakota are much better. This vehicle is equipped with automatic overdrive which allows me to cruise down the highway at 70 mph with the tach showing 1500 - 1700 rpm's. The engine just idles along at freeway speeds. Take the vehicle out of overdrive and dial in 4LO on the dashboard and you have this incredible torchy pulling machine. It has already taken some of the trails I used to take with my 1970's Jeep Quadratrack 4X4 with ease. I feel this truck is the same size as my 1971 D100 with a 318 V8. Yet that machine would rarely get better than 12 mpg on the highway so Dodge has really, really come along way in the last 30 years. From the drivers standpoint, this 4.7 liter engine 287 Cubic Inches has 235 hp and I swear it's more HP than the 71 with the 318 was. My vehicle is equipped with fog lights, an option I had to buy previously. The cab is quiet on the freeway or in town with the windows up. You can just hear the engine purring along and the whine of the AC fan, no road noise. I can barely feel and hear when I run over dual sets of railway tracks. Even parking lot slow speed bumps are NULLED by the suspension of the Dakota. I swear the cab of my Dakota is as wide as my 71 Dodge. There is adequate room for 5 people inside the vehicle. My range is about 400 miles with a 24 gallon gas tank. The interior components are of a much better quality build than that found on the Chevy Colorado. The Dakota has a more pleasing cab than Chevy Colorado and is quieter with a larger range of engine options for a better price/warranty. I added 7/70,000 bumper to bumper to the deal. The tag on this vehicle was $31,500 and the dealer came down $11,000 off the sticker price. My truck was fully dressed out and was sitting on the showroom floor when I bought it. It's a beautiful jet black paint scheme with lots of chrome accessories. I also owned a 1988 Ford Ranger with the 2.9l V6 engine extended cab and have access to another family members S10 Chevy pickup with a 4 cylinder engine. The small trucks offer no gas mileage savings and poor performance. Neither the Ford or Chevy will get must better than 18 mpg. So I'm amazed that my V8 powered 4.7 liter AWD Dakota matches their gas mileage! Yet it does! My Dodge Dakota has an excellent vehicle power to weight ratio. I would have to go all the way back to my 1976 Dodge Maxivan to get a vehicle which could haul 4 people and some cargo and be responsive on the freeway,,, but that maxivan didn't get much better than 8-12 mpg! Another amazing comparison could be made between Dakota AWD and the Durango. Durango owners alwasy write in with their 4.7 liter engines complaining about poor gas mileage in the 12-15 mpg neighborhood. How can a vehicle like my Dakota which is much bigger than Durango get better gas mileage with the same engine? I'd have no trouble recommending the Dodge Dakota to anyone looking for an affordable and fun to drive AWD pickup truck. It's really something else!

Alternator went out at 8000 miles Fan clutch went out Loses power and almost stalls for no reason, and the dealer can't figure out what is wrong. Their computer tells them nothing is wrong, so they can't fix it. This is very dangerous when pulling out into trafic.

I bought a new 3.9 SLT Quad Cab. It is a 25000 piece of junk. I have had it to the dealer 6 times in eight months for various repairs. That is more than in 3 years with my 98 Nissan Frontier.
