Model Reviewed: slt club cab 5.2 V8

Strength:

plenty of power, 4x4 great in offroad and on ice and snow, few problems, is definitely a cooler truck than any of the other domestic compact pickups

Weakness:

a bit of a gas guzzler, not enough room for adults or a rear facing infant seat in the back seat

This is a great truck. I have the 5.2 liter V8 which provides plenty of power. In the almost four years I have owned it the only problems I have had have been nickle and dime stuff. Adults will not be happy in the back seat, but it is great for kids or any gear you want to take along. I have pulled horse trailers and it handles the job with no complaints. I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off which does not look like it will happen anytime in the forseeable future.

Strength:

Sporty looking. Very comfortable. Everything on the panel was conveniently located. Sound system was great. I am currently in the process of buying another Dakota. I missed my truck so much that I have to have another Dakota. I have never been satisfied with a car.

Weakness:

NONE!!!!!!!

I loved my 96 Dakota. I bought the truck with only 21 miles on it. I had let it go due to wanting to start a family and didn't have enough room. When I sold my truck it had over 60,000 miles on it. It still ran perfect. I never had a single problem with my truck.

Strength:

Power to spare; Excellent interior space; 4x4 switch instead of on floor; Towing is better than average for the mid-size class.

Weakness:

Handling isn't the best; Back end is very light, be careful going over bumps and around curves, truck tends to fishtail; Transmission is very soft, but don't worry that is how they made it -- if you don't like the softness, a kit can be purchased for the tranny; Ride is a bit rough at slower speeds, but smooth on the highway.

Outstanding vehicle. I have had only one major problem - cracked head at 500 miles (factory defect). However, they replaced the entire engine promptly and it has been perfect ever since. Plenty of power, especially in passing gear on highway. Gas mileage is average, but has a fairly large tank so I'm not filling up all the time. Dealer threw in spray-on bedliner, which is great; I suggest getting it, even if you have to pay for it.

Strength:

Power, appearance, lots of room, handles well on curving roads

Weakness:

transmission shifts too soft, bad vibration when windows are down, drivers seat has little support for lower back.

I have been very happy with this truck. It has great power, handles well and looks great.I have yet to take a long trip with it,but love driving it locally. The only trouble I,ve had was the exhaust was not bolted tight from the factory and came loose two weeks after I bought it-easily fixed, but gave me a good scare.

Strength:

Plenty of power, Cold A/C, Nice size bed, enough room for 3 in the club cab, and a good driver.

Weakness:

Nothing at all!

I just bought this truck in January of 2003(used) because I am a firm believer of Mopar Power. This truck does not disapoint. It has a 5.2l V8 (318cid) that is a great motor. This motor has lots of torque and plenty of power to pull my bass boat. It is just a great truck.

Model Reviewed: Dakota 4x4 ext cab slt V6

Strength:

Long lasting truck that doesn't rust much. Solid. Sharp looking and just the right size. The back seat is a 3 person bench unlike those ranger and s-10 little uncomfortable seats. Fun in the mud

Weakness:

Blind spot on passenger side causes the rear bumper to get banged up on the passenger side seen it on 75% of Gen II dakotas. The V6 needs more balls, but it may be caused by the 4WD. Steering sucks, don't plan on tight turns, totally opposite. Ugly dash and door pannels. Hard to find upgrades and accessories for it. Tailgate won't close at all in NY winters, tip: squirt lock de-icer on the latches. Six bolt is a pain to get lug nuts off, always cross threading, a five bolt would have been just fine. Limited slip diff slips too much, but not too much of a problem with 4WD.

Very nice truck for a 16 year old. 135,000 miles and still running strong, Since I bought it I had to replace the exhaust(was going to put duals on anyway), water pump, transfer case, and a belt.

Strength:

Smooth ride, plenty of power very dependable.

Weakness:

starting to get the "infamous" rotor vibration.

2000 Dakota SLT extra cab 4.7L. Bought the Truck with 16 miles on it and have loved every mile since. Stuck faithfully with maintenance routene and have not had a single problem in 60K miles. Drives like a car on the freeway and is a good middle ground if you don't want to shell out for the quad cab.

Biger turning radius than my 95 ram 4x4. early milage.

This truck has been fantistic. The week after I bought it I took 4 freinds 5 mountain bikes and all our junk for a ten day 3000 mile trip and it was perfect for the job. Tons of power smooth quiet and roomy enough even with 3 adults in the back seat. The only complaint I had was that the milage was only about 16.5mpg on the highway, but that was with all the afforementioned people and junk in it and doing 80-85 most of the time. It now has 14,ooo miles on it with only oil and filter changes and now that it's broken in and has a shell it get's that same 16.5 mpg in the City. I cant wait for the next trip.
