My truck rocks off road. I get compliments on it all the time. I guess thats because of the 6 inch Suspension Lift on 36x14.50x16.5Gumbo Mudder Radials/ 16.5x9.75 inch Eagle Rims, etc.... Plus other added features I have..
Weakness:
The only bad quality is I wish I had bought a SuperCab or CrewCab. The next one will be one of those two. The 5.4l is a tough motor but I might opt for the 7.3l next time around. I have owned 2 Chevy's and had nothing but problems so I decide to try Ford. So far I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the truck. I just rolled 25,000 miles and it still runs like it did the day of purchase. Similar Products Used: Comparing it to the 93 Chevy 4x4 Z71. I had nothing but problems with the truck since day one. I finally wrote the company and had them take the truck back with only 1500 miles on it. FORD IS NUMBER 1!!!!!! |

There was once something that drew me to purchasing this vehicle, however I have long since forgotten what it might have been.
Weakness:
Too many to list. I purchased the truck with 3700 miles with full warrany.I started having problems at 10000 miles with manual transmission. It didn't shift from third to second without having to double clutch. the syncromesh was gone. Ford replaced the transmission. Since then I have had a high pitched ringing sound emitting from the transmission. Also replaced has been the computor, two sets of oxygen sensors, wiring harness, drivers seat belt, drink holder, two sets of stabilizing rods (the bushings pop out), the dome light goes on at random, sometimes when I turn the wheel, sometimes with no reason. The switches have been replaced once or twice. I can't keep up. Now at 45000 the truck is in the shop to have the engine torn down because either the lifters or the pistons are bad. Ford is not cooperating Similar Products Used: 96 GMC2500 clubcab 4x4. No comparison. GMC has it over Ford. |

none ok- this might sound like an arrogant thing to say but- any Ford would will outperform, outpull, outlast, out-anything, than Chevy. These idiots that say Fords die in few years is because they are morons that dont know how to take good care of an engine. They probably cant even find the oil dipstick in an engine. I live on a farm so we know how trucks pull. My grandpa bought an older Custom Deluxe with a large block V8 in it and he will never waste his money again. I think it lasted about 3 months or so. It now sits proudly in the old garage serving only as a spot to collect dirt and junk. We know have three Fords- and every one has performed for years. I will gurantee my right arm on what I just said. Similar Products Used: definitely not a Chevy. I know because it is still running smoothly. |

POWER, POWER, POWER, AND MORE POWER. MILEAGE, RELIABILITY, DEPENDABILITY, FEATURES AND LOOKS! RIDE AND HANDLING!
Weakness:
TIRES, Factory rubber is trash. Curious on how the 4spd AUTO tranny is going to hold up behind the Powerstroke. The Powerstroke needs to redesign the glow plug system.......ALASKA IS COLD!!! Needs dual front shocks. I have been a GM truck freak for over 10 years, and I thought I would give Ford a try. The SuperDuty rigs are the best built trucks on the road. My money was well spent, this truck will last my lifetime. Plus with a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty on the engine??? That's a sign that something is built FORD Tough. The options available are outstanding and selections of power plants are the best. But you are a fool if you dont get the "Powerstroke" with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. If you could get the Powerstroke in the F-150, I would have it put in. It is the hottest selling truck in Alaska! They need to make me a SuperDuty salesman, I could sell them faster than they could get them in. I love solid axles, which this truck has. IFS, just means that there is more parts that are going to crap out on you down the road. Do you buy a truck for the ride, or do you buy a truck! FORD HAS BUILT ONE TOUGH MONSTER!! Similar Products Used: Chevrolet trucks, Ford has them beat in the 3/4 and 1 ton class. |

Ford could have put better tires on it. After owning 14 pickups over the last 35 years, I feel that since the f150 was redesigned in 97 ford has done an outstanding job. Crew Cab Short Bed
Strength:
7.3L deisel pulls hard, nice ride for a 3/4 ton truck.
Weakness:
40/20/40 bench seat. A/C on really hot days. I really resent when people with sour grape issues intentionally try to bring down the overall rating of such a great truck by choosing one star ratings, no truck is that bad, not even Dodge! That said I can't say enough about the power, comfort, and options on my 2001 Lariat SD CrewCab short bed. The 7.3L deisel has stump pulling power I have never experienced in a truck and it pulls my 31' Nomad like it's not even there and I really appreciate the 3.73 gears as she settles down on the freeway at 1800 RPM and 13MPG. The intuitive 4 speed tranny analyizes your driving and towing habits and shifts accordingly and I have never had to wonder "when is this thing going to shift?" The ride is smooth on this 3/4ton with plenty of ground clearance and the cab is roomy for all six of us. If there was one thing I could complain about it would be the 40/20/40 bench seats. The leather is OK, I'd rather have cloth but the seat heaters make up for this. However they seem to be a little skimpy width wise and I just can't get over the feeling of hanging off the edge. Also the A/C seems to be a little week but only on the hottest of days. And that's it, overall quality, fit, and finish are excellent and, in order to offset the unrealistically poor ratings, I'm going to give this truck a very realistic 5 stars...
