that i'm getting rid of it soon

Weakness:

the3.0 v-6 has NO power. the front end feels very loose, had to replace steering rack, power steering pump, fuel pump, and driveshaft, the paint was horrible, the seats are very uncomfortable, dealer services sucks, windows rattle when partially down, i could go on forever

i would not recommend a ranger to anyone but my worst enemy

Strength:

ground clearance, smooth 5 spd, lots of room in X-cab, comfy seats, smooth ride (especially for 114k miles!), quiet, you don't have to slam doors, 26 mpg highway

Weakness:

2.3 rubber band takes some getting used to

My ranger is a 94 extended cab XLT with 114k miles. It was bought wrecked at a salvage auction for $3,700 and I drive it with some wrinkles on the body.

I feel that Ford's quality exceeds GM. For one, the doors on my Ranger don't sag like they do on ALL S10's (they make the doors too heavy for the hinges, as a result you have to slam it to get it to shut--very annoying. When a company has had the same problem for 30 years you'd think they'd fix it). The interior is nice and comfortable and it's quiet to drive(all unlike my s10 again). Don't fear the 4 cyl if all you do is drive without a load. Go for the v6 if you ever try to tow a boat or anything. I've had no major maintence problems besides one motor mount, which I replaced for $50, 30 minutes, and no experience.

Strength:

Looks, 4WD system rules!, smooth transmission, smooth ride for pickup

Weakness:

Had to warrantee and replace transmission after 25000, experiencing 'clank' noise and hard shift into 3rd. Poor gas mileage, no v6 sohc available. poor stereo, no power seats,

paid 300 over invoice :) - leased loaded 4x4 xlt 16" wheels all bells whistles 2 tone paint etc...only pay 316/mo w/tax.
I like the truck a lot. But, I'm gonna turn it in for a sport-trac....same price but much better and has v6 sohc engine 210hp!!

Traded it in for a new Acura Integra (I suggest you do the same)

Weakness:

EVERYTHING ELSE! My girlfriend bought this truck with less than 800 miles on and it is a piece of junk. Under normal driving conditions the clutch and transmission whent to crap and had to be replaced (thank god for warrenty) After that the electrical system started going out (again warrenty saved us) For a V-6 with ~150hp the engine is pretty week. Ford Quality my ass! Without the warrenty we would easily be $4000 out of luck.

We paid $22,000 for the xlt loaded with all the bells and whistles and the V6 engine. I would seriously detour anyone thinking about purchasing this truck.

Strength:

The ride is one of the best in small trucks. It gets great gas mileage and is a good looking truck.

Weakness:

The inlne 2.3L is very slow, a review at MSN.com placed the horsepower at 98. The cab is too small tall persons over.

A great truck even with the 2.3L. For $3,900 you are not going to find a better ride than the Ranger. Go for the V6.

Strength:

Super smooth ride (like my old Taurus), cupholders, reliability, gas mileage, smooth shifting tranny, looks, extremely comfortable seat, build quality, quality materials used (except paint), clearance height

Weakness:

wish it had cruise control, paint chips/scratches way too easily, semi-touchy clutch (not the greatest clutch for a beginner)

I agree with the guy who siad that this was a good truck for 16 year olds, because I am 16 and this is the perfect vehicle for me. I have only owned this for 3 months with a few minor problems (door locks, exhaust heat sheild, hood latch). Other than that the truck is awesome. It looks brand new (except for some scatches) with 72K on it. All in all you can't go wrong with a Ranger so long as you stay away from the 4cyls. Also, this isn't a serious work truck, or for a person who needs alot of room.

Strength:

A really great truck. I have the 4.0 v6 standard with crew cab, bucket seats. This truck really rocks. Globs of power 0-60 in 8.4. Handles like no other truck i have ever owned. I presently have 73,000 miles on the truck and except for a front brake job at 60,000 and routine maintenance there has never been a wrench put to her. Just can't beat a vehicle like that.

Weakness:

This truck won't last forever.

This truck is an excellent value. I paid 16,500 in Sept 96.

Strength:

trouble-free, hasn't been back to the dealer since I picked it up, good ride and handling for a truck

Weakness:

the 3.0 V6 could use more horsepower

I ordered this 4 door 4x4 without the back seats, and I'm glad I did. I rarely have more than one passenger, but do use the rear compartment on almost a daily basis. I have the 3.0 litre V6 and a 5 speed, and on up hill grades, it can't be in 5th gear (overdrive). It requires downshifting, but once in 4th or sometimes 3rd, it cruises, even up to 70 miles per hour (legal in Arizona). I took it on a few interstate drives already, and its been tight, comfortable, and fun to drive. The paint on this truck is flawlwss (orange metallic). By the way, I did replace the original P235 radials with 31-10.50/15 Wranglers...they fit fine, look great. I have virtually no complaints with this truck.

Model Reviewed: x-cab 3.0 v-6

Strength:

Just got the truck two weeks ago. LOVE IT!! Plenty of room, plenty of power. 15" wheels a plus. great at cruising speeds. Flexible fuel system is great. Here in Phoenix they add ethonal to the gas to reduce emissions. I've heard of people not getting top performance from their vehicles due to this mixed fuel, however the 3.0 is designed to run on unleaded fuel or ethanol fuel or any combination of the two. Good for the environment, good for a tax write-off.

Weakness:

None yet...

$18,000 new. XLT x-tra cab. Red. Premium sound. Bedliner. Very nice. More solid than the s-10, considerably cheaper than the dakota.
Ideal buyer: those looking for a well-built truck but don't want to drive a tank.

Strength:

Styling, Interior, Controls, Comfort, Great Clearance for a 2WD, Price, Good Factory Bedliner

Weakness:

Bad 3rd gear synchronizer (replaced under warranty, but my tranny feels a little loose when in gear now. any ideas?).
Electrical short caused repeated fuse blowing (turn signals). Remedied after visits to two different dealers.
Engine rattle even when using name brand gas (BP, Shell, Amoco).

I noticed a serious engine rattle (almost like a valve rattle?) in 4th and 5th gear at highway speed under acceleration. Has anyone had this problem? I had my dealer check it out but they just put it on the computer and said it was fine.

Can anyone reccomend a good repair/maintenance manual for this vehicle?

Mileage seems to be getting better the longer I have it. Fun to drive except for the annoying engine rattle. May take it to another dealer for their opinion.
