Strength:

Roomy with all the comforts of home, when it's not in the shop.

Weakness:

Fuel pump problems. Transmission problems. Costly service visits.

I purchased this van 4 years ago and it seems that as soon as the warranty period ends on something it breaks. I have had to replace the fuel pump 100 miles past the warranty and now at 62000 miles the transmission went. The dealer and the customer service "help line" has been no help at all.

Strength:

There''s a lot of room. It tows very well with no extra bouncing or pulling.

Weakness:

We''ve had some problems with the ABS front brakes. There was a service bulletin about cracks in the discs. We ordered a locking differential with our diesel motor. You could feel it slipping and making noises. Differential was replace after 18k miles. Also the mirrors are not really for towing and very hard to find aftermarket products for this style van.

For a 15 passenger vehicle it''s great! There''s plenty of leg room, and easy access to get in and out of. We ordered the diesel and love it. For a towing vehicle it''s got plenty of torque. You don''t feel the extra weight, or loose any power by towing.

Strength:

Good power, roomy, seats and bed easy to operate.

Weakness:

Major repair problems at low mileage. Power steering, power windows, gas guage, transmission.

We bought the van used in summer, 2000 with 31,000 miles. The power steering pump shaft broke 2 days after 3 year warranty expired, but GM dealer in Traverse City, MI authorized repair. Very nice gesture. Brakes and shocks replaced at 45,000 miles. Gas guage has always been goofy (goes to half tank then heads back to full). I think my dealer would repair it if they could verify the problem. Recently, at 53,000 miles, the transmission has severe problems. The dealer thinks it might have to be replaced. I was hoping to find someone with similar problems that GM has covered. Overall, I really like the vehicle. It has great power, handles quite well for a high top (except on windy days), and gets about 15 miles per gallon.

Strength:

SOLID VAN, DRIVES LIKE A PASSENGER CAR, OTHER THAN TWO COMPONENTS, EXTREMELY RELIABLE.

Weakness:

FUEL PUMP, NEEDS CHANGING EVERY 40,000 MILES, PRICE ON THIS PART HAS INCREASED FROM 300 DOLLARS TO 600 DOLLARS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AFTER 100,000 MILES WITH VERY LIGHT DUTY AND 2 FLUID CHANGES AS PER SCHEDULE.

Unless GMC addresses these problems I will not be buying another GMC product.

Strength:

New body style, seats are easier to remove.5.7 engine has lots of power.gas mileage okay, rides good.

Weakness:

Poor traction on snow and ice.No lockable storage. No digital compass, gas mileage indicator available.Had to replace front brakes at 32k.too much wind noise.poor side visibility

Over all I think it's a good van.I took it to Canadas Atlantic Provinces and the trip was very comfortable, the ride was good, gas mileage didn't kill me,could see over the traffic, had lots of room for camping and fishing gear.I just ordered a 2001 Savana 1500.I have a great salesman and dearlership who handled the few minor repair problems I had.I wish a 4-wheel drive was offered.

Strength:

size and driveability for our needs

Weakness:

has been a lot of mechanical headaches since the first week and still working on them

I would not recommend this product to anyone that needs a dependable van. We would also recommend that you buy from a dealership that has a good service department if you do buy this product. Our main problem has been the small things that have been wrong. The biggest problem has been the reliability of our dealership. As to date, we have had the A/C cycling switch changed twice, our van went into our dealership for a coolant leak eleven times. It also went into the shop because our compressor was out. We had to send our van to an independent shop just to get my coolant leak figured out. Now, as of December of 2000 our van is in the shop with transmission problems.

Great power with 5.7, very quiet ride, great for long trips, great reliability, very stable at 90+ on open roads, ok handling considering size, very luxurious, nice seats, i took it to quigley and got 4 wheel drive put on it because we have a cabin in the mountains and it is quite an offroader with bigger off road tires on it

Strength:

We love the room for our six children. We chose the 12-pass ext version and can pack so much stuff in the back. Pretty quiet for such a large vehicle.

Weakness:

2500 model lacks power. Weather stripping coming off. A few initial little problems, fixed by dealer. Too tall (84") to fit in our garage!

Paid $27,200. My wife didn't want this--she wanted a Suburban--but has grown to really like and appreciate this monster vehicle. The children (ages 10 to 1) love having the room not to have to sit next to each other. We like the looks of this more than the other full-size vans. Not a lot of luxuries available that we were used to on the minivans. Rides good. No serious problems yet. The biggest complaint from the children is that it has no cup holders!
