so far no probs, i wanted to try a toyota, and it was the best price i could get on a new 4 cyl truck w/auto and air. i didnt care to much about what make i bought as long as it wasnt a dodge. also the paint and fit and finish seem extra good

Weakness:

idles rough, seat is uncomfortable, radio speakers sound tinny,no clock, and i feel it should get better gas milage maybe it will pick up some with miles

so far i have had the toyota for 3 months and 3500 miles and i find it to be no better or worse than my chev, ford,or mazda were, i do like the fact its a little smaller it fits in the garage better, and has a 3500 pound trailer rating thats excellant for a 4 cyl truck. i will be happy if it gets me to and from for next 5 yrs without major probs.

Similar Products Used:

chev s-10, ford ranger, mazda b series, dodge dakota. the toyota compares about the same to my previous chev, ford, and mazda. a toy wagon would have been better than the dodge but thats another reveiw.

Strength:

Awesome all around! Especially engine. Wicked power from 3.4 V6, the engine definetely likes to be revved, smooth engine. Trd option with the rear diff lock is a must. Styling is awesome.

Weakness:

Price...but I don't mind paying a premium price, I am completely happy with it....happy is an understatement.

If you are in the market for a new truck, make sure you get to test drive the Tacoma. Tacoma is the way to go. This was my first new purchase and I did tons of research before committing. The research paid off, I have a truck I am more than happy with.

I Like the looks very much, it sits up nice and high

Weakness:

cant seem to get the tires balanced. Their is a clunking noise when taking off from a stop

I have driven this truck for approximately one year. I like the truck very much but am concerned over two issues. One is that the vibration may cause premature failure of frojnt end parts. The other is that the clunking noise is a defect and may cause problems later on.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tacoma Ext Cab LX 4x4

Strength:

Toyota quality- excellent fit and finish, perfect no nonsence mechanics, RELIABLE!, most off-road capable stock trucks sold, durable, fast (of course thats relative...) holds their value. can take a beating and keep on going. fuel efficient (20-22mpg-2.7L 4cyl) easy to maintain. agile.

Weakness:

passenger seat squeaked after about 45,000 miles when someone sat in it, 1 squirt of liquid wrench solved the squeak.
not enough aftermarket stuff available yet!
disc brakes in back would be nice...

First off. for those of you that think toy's are too expensive, why dont you look at some slightly used ones?? I bought my 97 in 99 with 22,000 miles on it for $16,500.00 and all the factory warranties were transferred. Mine was a lease trade in. somthing to check into...

I have owned 3 toyota's, all have been moderate to heavily used off the beaten trail and when it comes to a vehicle I rely on to drive me 40 miles into the desert, (AND back out!) Toyota's are the only way to go.

My truck has seen about 4000 miles of dirt roads in its 50,000 mile life so far, and nothing has gone wrong. no new rattles, no changes in performance, nuthin! I sincerly beleive, that it you take the time to "thank" your car, whether by a pat on the dash, or buying something for it, It will remeber. Treat your toyota with the same compassion you treat yourself with and you will have no problems.
think Im crazy? email me and let me know! dmetcalfe@speedoptions.com
Seriously though, take a look around at the majority of older, and newer trucks on the road, and especially off the road, and you will most likely find that they are toyota's of some sort.

SO, in other words, if you want a truck that can handle truck things, and do it for a very long time, Toyota's are for you. If you want a supple riding town-truck, or easily get bored with looking at the same vehicle everday, go with one of the big 3...you will need a new one of those before you know it.

Model Reviewed: Tacoma LX 4x2 Extra-Cab

Strength:

Comfortable, good-looking, quick little mamma. Have 82K miles on it - and have put no $ into it but routine maintenance. Incredibly dependable and reliable. Auto trans finds desired gear IMMEDIATELY and snaps your head back when you floor the acclerator pedal just right. Quick, quick, quick, and oh so dependable. Cruise control maintains speed very, very well. Interior is so comfortable, and relatively quiet for a truck like this. Stock stereo and speakers deliver surprisingly good sound and range.

Weakness:

No clock. Glove box has hung slightly crooked from day 1.

Got this initially as a lease, bought it a year or two later, and may have it until I die. Sporty looking little truck. 2.4 L 16-valve DOHC delivers terrific acceleration - at any speed. Dependable, solidly built - has had NO repairs, currently at 82K miles. Auto trans finds the right gear, cruise holds the speeds. Routine, scheduled maint has kept this little truck flying along the Interstate. Drive frequently between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, and this is a comfortable truck that gets low 20s mpg, and long wheel base smooths out the bumps. I've never even been stuck in snow - with just rear-wheel drive. Paint still looks great, no rust or corrosion, no squeaks, rattles or annoyances. Great get-up and go. What a value I got from Toyota. Other than wanting a clock somewhere in the interior - I have NO complaints about this truck. Not one. It is probably the highest quality vehicle I have ever driven. And will be the vehicle I drive longer than anything else. This really is an awesome truck Toyota built.

Model Reviewed: Tacoma SR5 Xtra Cab 4x4 V6

Strength:

Styling--The exterior design of the Toyota has been the best in my opinion over the last 15 years. The designers at Toyota really know what they are doing.
Power--the 190 hp V6 really pulls at around 3,000 RPM's
Durability--this truck has never gotten stuck in snow/mud. The shift on the fly is very smooth and evokes alot more confidence for the driver in poor weather.
Looks--this truck is simply the best looking and performing compact truck on the market

Weakness:

Interior--radio is weak, interior a little plain (offer leather int.??) and some rattles from passenger airbag.
Price--fully loaded, it can be a bit pricey for a pickup, but you get what you pay for! Other than that, nothing!!

I would definitely recommend the Tacoma to anyone looking to get into the compact truck market. It is a great daily driver and sits high so you are looking down at everyone. The gas mileage is not that great, but who cares?? It's got a ballsy almost 200 hp V6 that does not dissapoint. Throw the supercharger from TRD on there and your looking at a 270 hp monster!! Also, there are alot of aftermarket mods you can do to this truck. I have the 4" Pro Comp lift on the truck with 33" BFG Mud's and the truck simply looks awesome.

Nissan Frontier (are you kidding??), Chevy ZR-2, Ford Ranger. None of these three even come close to the Tacoma in either the looks, reliability or durability...

I love my truck. Anyone who has a Tacoma knows that this is the best mid-sized truck out there. Engine Is great and an exhaust makes it so much better. ACCELERATION!!!

Weakness:

Did not get 4x4 and am ashamed. I got Stuck and had a 4x4 F-150 pull me out.

I had wanted this truck for the longest time and when I got it I was the happiest man alive. Girls love the truck because it doesn't really act like a truck. I payed what I expected and got what I wanted. Superior to anything else. Only thing that is better is the Tundra

Model Reviewed: TRD Tacoma

Strength:

TRD option, V6 power, great off road..rides like a truck

Weakness:

No clock, passenger side seat squeaks sometimes

Owned an '89 Toyota before this, had 200k miles on original clutch. Needless to say, I will always buy Toyota vehicles. Have 60k miles now, never seen the shop. Still have original breaks, belts, hoses, alternator, battery...etc....

People whine about the price. Simple, you get what you pay for.

People whine about it rides like a truck. Simple, don't buy a 4X4 truck if you want it to ride like a BMW you wussies!!

Check out the recall lists and reliability for the BIG 3 AUTOMAKERS....They won't even compare to the Toyota.

My Tacoma was assembled in Freemont,California (American jobs)...Many of the domestics are assembled in Mexico...so I don't want to hear any crap about buying American...check in any of the BIG 3's engine compartment...you'll find 'made in japan' somewhere in there.

SUMMARY--If you want a tough truck with great power and not afraid to beat it up a little offroad and long trips, buy this truck. It's worth every penny. If you want a truck that rides like a car, don't buy this, and get yourself a "Soccermom's mini-van".

4. O.k Sound system, I installed new sound system. Sounds great now!
5. Kick Ass looks and excellent paint.
6. Have have no problems with anything mechanical.

Weakness:

1. Shifts a little rough.
2. Gas mileage not the best (14-19mpg)
3. E-Brake light likes to stay on when E-Brake is released.

Have had only excellant experiences with this pickup. By the way it is a SR5 ex-CAb with 60,000 miles. Next pickup will most definately be another toyota pickup, hopefully with the TRD supercharger!! I would recamend this pickup to everyone who wants a smaller pickup, I would ever recamend it to someone who is looking at a full size!

Model Reviewed: Tacoma 4x4, 2.7 liter

Strength:

More dependable than anything I've owned. Solidly built. An avid rock climber over Elephant Hill, Utah canyonlands. Plenty of low rpm torque for crawling. Good handling after 20000 or 30000 miles when suspension broke in a bit. Excellent a/c and heater.

Weakness:

Bad converter diagnosed when engine lite came on. Cost $1100. Outrageous. Bushing bad in steering gear and can't be repaired, only replaced for $1400. Whoever heard of a bad bushing costing $1400? The parts are good, but they aren't that good. Paint job was typical American made crap. Red paint was also crap.

Very well built truck, but replacements are too expensive. Replacing entire assemblies instead of repairing broken components will start causing people like me to quit buying new vehicles. Too much spread between costs of repairs at dealer versus other auto shops. Car-X charged me $45 labor to replace front shocks. Toyota dealer said it was 4 hr job and charged $260 labor. Car-X did the job in 35 minutes, I watched. Someone is trying to gouge us I think. I would still purchase another one. I had originally intended to keep this truck for another 20 yrs. I doubt that I'll be able to afford it once I have to replace that $1100 computer brain, or $1100 catalytic converter! Not to mention the $1400 rack and pinion steering gear assembly due to a failing $10 bushing.
