Only two stop for gas. Didn't overheat, didn't fail. I've kept up maintenance as much as I can. I honestly think the 3.3. Liter SE voyagers have a better record than any of the other Plymouth offerings, make sure you KNOW what you're buying. Retaining Walls

I own a pair of Hollywood Excursion subwoofers that claim 900 watts peak and 500 watts RMS. I've hooked them up to an 800 watter and a 900 watter and there's was no competion. This baby slamming them bridged @ 1 ohm. The bass even sounds so much cleaner.

Weakness:

I don't know if it's mine in particular since I didn't buy it new, but the crossover on mine sucks.

Great amp. I've had my components SCREAMING off the 200 x 2 but it just makes the subs sound so good at 560 x 1 !!! I've put all my caraudio fanatic friends to the test they pulled their subs off their amps, and played on mine, they were definetely embarassed.

Strength:

Chrome look is different..cool/ugly? I don't know. Very quick protection circuit.

Weakness:

It's shiny...fan's loud (see review). Blue illumination should be LEDS, not sick blue/green lamps and voltage regulated so they don't "flash" to the beat. Crossover damping varies with frequency position. No bias adjustment in output section...(more labor/parts...never mind)

I don't actually own this amp, but I did get the chance to repair/test it. It blew because the guy shorted a woofer...etc, etc. Easy fix, one transistor, unlike many that blow a lot of things before the fuse...(Rockford comes to mind). I was surprised by the build quality of the amp, especially the size and weight of the heatsinks and how they are formed to remove heat from the output and power devices rapidly. They are thicker at the circuit board side and get thinner towards the fan. The PCB is really well made, next to PG in terms of CAD design, layout and vias. Nice Job! The fan on this one runs at full speed all the time, which is fairly annoying. It seems to have been changed to thermal control in the newer ones. 12 TIP 35/36 outputs (six per channel) are the most I've seen in an amp in this power class except US AMPS. (Same part numbers too). The power supply utilizes 12 IRFz44 MosFets (whew!) and the supply operated unregulated, NOT regulated as Audiobahn claims..but that's not a real big issue with me or at all. It does, however, operate down to 7 volts!! Expect a lot less power there, but it doesn't just shut off. I found that interesting. Internal rail voltages are at +/- 42 volts (that's 84 volts, folks) @ 13.8V input, which is about right for a 200*2 4 ohm amp. From what I could tell, the audio outputs are a variation on the Triple Darlington design used by PG, which is a very good thing. Triple Darlington (when utilized correctly) allows the amplifier to do its job while being less affected by the speaker's changing impedance while playing.
Overall, I give it a high rating because it does its job with no complaints, it's built right and it sounds GREAT!

Everything from Alphasonik to Zapco. It would be unfair to compare it to amps of other price points, but it does a very good job of amplifying an audio signal cleanly..provided that you use a quality crossover. A watt is a watt if the amp is designed properly, it will "hit hard"...there is no such thing as "hard-hitting" watts or the like. Bottom line...the power supply internal to the amp makes the number one biggest difference.

Great amp, Pounds, Puts out awesome wattage. Looks great. Stays cool. Just an awesome amp

Weakness:

The fan kind of whines sometimes, I guess I can just oil it. But the biggest weakness I have experiance is when I accidently touched the alan wrench to the amp when i was putting in the power cable and it sparked... then the amp wouldnt turn on... I checked EVERY fuse in my car and they are all fine... The guy i bought it from said something about it going into a PROTECTION MODE that only audio bahn can reset... Pissed me off alot because I enter small competitions and now I cant because my amp wont work.

great amp except for the little problem I have, still havent gotten it fixed, hopefully it can be fixed...

Strength:

Good, clean power, I have little doubt that it is indeed capable of making over 500 watts at top RMS output, I have it set to a little less than half on the gain so as to not fry the single 12" JL Audio W-6 wired for 3 ohms. It does look very clean, I had some concerns that the "mirror-chrome" finish would look somewhat chinsy but it actually looks fantastic. To my surprise, the first thing you see in the box is a pair of soft white cotton gloves to wear when handling the amplifier to avoid smudging it, which worked very well. Insertion-type terminals make for a cleaner installation than amplifiers that use spade terminals, and it's a known fact that terminators do frequently introduce a small amount of resistance.

Weakness:

Ok, this is the hard part. I really do like this amp, overall, but I very much hope that my comments here resonate deeply in the cubicles of Audiobahn's engineers. Disclaimer complete, here are the problems, from least to most annoying:

1) The blue internal light and "clear" circuit board window. The window is actually just the tiniest bit opaque, which has the effect of making it look dirty. The light's kind of slick, but in a darkened trunk you can also see it leaking around the crossover and gain pots. Finally, the wire-spooled item on the circuit board (name eludes me for the moment) does not seem very neatly wound compared to others I've seen - not that I believe that would significantly affect sound quality / power - it just detracts from the overall presentation.

2) Mounting brackets - while nicely protected by pre-installed grommets, they are not necessarily in the most convenient location for an amp of this size. I quickly reviewed three installations at a local stereo store, and in each one there would be at least one corner of the A2800E that required an angled-bit or stubby screwdriver and tiny hands. Since the brackets are very simply attached to the body, it would be interesting and innovative to provide alternate holes for the mounting brackets, perhaps 2" - 2 1/2" from the sides of the amp.

3) Signal processing - an 18db Bass Boost SWITCH??? Come on, that's ridiculous - either make it a reasonable number (12db?) or make it a potentiometer. A set of RCA outputs with opposite crossover settings would be great, but would probably raise the cost quite a bit.

4) Wiring blocks. This is disgraceful. On my model, neither wiring block is visibly secured to the body of the amp. While my power block is fairly stable (due to the angled wire applying slight downward pressure), the speaker wire block rattled incessantly. At first one of the terminals was loose, but even after tightening it continued to be one of the more obtrusive rattles. I've addressed this for the moment by positioning a small piece of card paper in where the top of the wiring block enters the amplifier. Two screws on each of those wiring blocks would correct any potential rattles, increasing perceived quality substantially at minimal cost. To not do so on future models would be absolute stupidity.

Important Note! While Audiobahn eludes to it on their website, the warranty information included with the amp does not require the amp be sold by an authorized dealer.

I had none of the problems indicated by "Steve". The black side vents on my model seem quite sturdy, they were the first thing I checked when I received the amp. Neither have I encountered any thermal protection issues despite running at 3 ohms. And reading Steve's solution (a relay in right after the headunit? on what wire, remote? you can't very well put a signal cable on a relay). OHHHH, I GET IT, you were running 5 devices on one remote cable - and the voltage remaining probably wasn't enough to trigger the rather beefy power relay on the Audiobahn, hence your difficulties. And since you have Neon, I'm guessing there's a good chance that your speaker wiring isn't the cleanest in the world, causing the cutouts. I can drive the JL Audio way past reasonable levels without even getting the amp warm, even from dead-zero mute, without any problems.

Particularly at the steep discount available on E-bay, this amplifier is well worth the price. If you read the weaknesses section, you are now fully aware of all the gripes I have with this amp, and yet I'm still very happy with it. With the exception of the potential for rattling terminal blocks, none of the other issues are performance related. And the rattle can be corrected with a little bit of cardpaper - just be careful to make it large enough so that it can't fall into the amp!

Yes, buy it. But if yours has the same issues mine has, post a review, say so here, and then send an e-mail to Audiobahn asking their engineers to comment on the review. If they fix that rattle in the next model, they will have a blisteringly powerful and affordable quality amp.

Obviously Steve doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Mine works great.
He needs it professionally installed maybe. The amp isn't gonna go to protection unless something is screwed up in it.
