Strength:

Clean output at RATED RMS power, They look good & the price is pretty good. All around an EXCELLENT amplifier.

Weakness:

When using the amp for subwoofers, with the crossover set to Low-Pass, when using the REMOTE BASS KNOB, you actually loose a little bit of bass boost. So if you want full 18db bass boost, don't use the remote and just turn it up on the amp itself. I noticed this on my amps so I thought I would pass it along.

The LEGACY LA590 is a very nice amplifier. A bit over-rated on the box and on the amp, but do you really think an amplifier of this size is going to put out a true 800 watts of pure RMS power? You have to look at the manual to see the real wattage specs, which are 50 watts RMS x 2 @ 4 ohm, & 75 watts x 2 @ 2 ohm. So according to our good old calculator, this amp puts out a solid 200 watts RMS x 1 (BRIDGED) @ 4 ohm. None the less, excellent sound quality! I personally bench tested the amp and found that mine put out 208.8 watts RMS x 1 (BRIDGED) @ 4 ohm, right at the edge of clipping on my oscilloscope. It did 52.2 watts RMS x 2 @ 4 0hm & 104.4 watts RMS x 2 @ 2 ohm. Very CLEAN output at my rated wattages! I own two of these amps and am very happy with there performance EXCELLENT (SQ) when setup properley. The price is great too! So if your looking for a SUPER full-range amplifier for your back window speakers and front doors this will do an EXCELLENT job! But if you are looking for a fairly powerfull SUB amp, this will definately do a great job as I ran one with an old MA AUDIO 12DXI (I think thats the model) in a custom box I built for a beretta, with an internal air-space of about 3.5 Cubic Feet & about a 25 square inch slot port tuned really low & it shook EVERYTHING quite a bit! The roof of the car moved up and down almost 1.5 inches! The bass frequency response of that setup was amazing, it played extremely low bass notes great, as well as high bass notes supprisingly well. It played all kinds of music great. MA Audio made these subs in 99 or 2000 and were some of the better ones, they hold 500 watts RMS, I can set one of these subs on the floor out of a box, so just the magnet sitting on the floor and pump the LA590 at pretty much full power and not hurt the sub, it moves about 3 to 3.5 inches but it don't hurt it! So again, this amp is a great starter amp for subwoofers, but would be an excellent choice for anyone who wants a good quality full-range, or high-pass amp for SOUND QUALITY! I am happy with them and I hope anyone else that buys one will be too. But please don't expect an 800 watt amp, it will do a little more than 200 watts RMS.11/08/2006 9:48am RgRts N@N P621 SD446 ag20

Strength:

Looks Nice

Weakness:

A-Z no kidding

This amp is not something your wanting for a good clean vehicle rattling bass. Claims to have MOSFET chip built in, which is very much so questionable. At higher volumes the amp seems to cause the subwoofer to pop at the heighth of the major bass. Almost a complete waste of money, buy a sony or pioneer, or rockford if price is no concern. This amp is better left for trap shooting.

Strength:

Good looks, compact, good quality, doesn't get hot (on 2 12's), nice sounding

Weakness:

Not a well-known brand.

The amp is absolutely awesome. I've been pushing 2 12" Clarions and the amp barely gets warm. It's nice and small and looks so nice. You get this bass boost attachment that you dont even need to turn up, but if you do, you're in for some major BASSSSS. Don't waste your money on those well-known brands, it's all the same sh*t inside.

I had an alpine v12. The alpine got so hot I couldn't even touch it.
