MTX Audio Thunder 6304 Amplifiers

MTX Audio Thunder 6304 Amplifiers

DESCRIPTION

This 37.5W x 4-channel amplifier has the most flexible crossover we offer. On both front and rear channels, it's variable from 40Hz to 200Hz and selectable for either high pass or low pass. The ""Summed Output"" jacks provide a line level summed output of the right front/right rear and left front/left rear input signals. This output is typically used to drive an external subwoofer amplifier. The parallel input switch allows a 2-channel signal to drive all four channels (no need for a ""Y"" connector). This amp even has the MTX Audio Thunder EQ bass boost!

Strength:

Clean and strong, conservative power ratings. Runs my JL VR600cs (6" woofer & 3/4" tweeter) and JL XR525cs (5.25" woofer & 1" tweeter) just fine.

Weakness:

Well static all the time. Sometimes it will go away for a long time, but then ALWAYS comes back. Probably a lil weak for the power handling of the component speakers I'm running.

Ive had the exact same problem as juanito157, at least as far as I can tell. The amp runs fine for a month or whatever, and then will suddenly start putting out loud static on one channel of the amp, the volume will sometimes fluctuate and become very high in only one channel, and distort greatly. As far as I can tell, it seems to be a problem with the rca connections to the circuit board inside. MTX has told me possibly if the rca's I used were too tight they might damage the soldering inside. Im using a 4-channel Monster Audio cable, so I know the rca's are good, however they are pretty snug on the terminals. Perhaps the amp is very sensitive to jarring, as I have mine mounted under my rear bench seat. Still it shouldnt be jumping that much.

Strength:

NICE,CLEAN SOUND...MUCH MORE POWER THAN RATED(AS WITH ALL MTX AMPS)RATED AT 37.5 WATTS/CHANNEL...MY BIRTHSHEET SAYS 65 WATTS/CHANNEL

Weakness:

OVERHEATS ON LONG TRIPS,OR HOT DAYS,AND SHUTS DOWN

MY SYSTEM CONSISTS OF AN MTX THUNDER 6304 AND AN MTX 81000D PUSHING ONE KICKER 15L7 SOLOBARIC...BOTH OF THESE AMPS ARE A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY,AND THE 6304 PUTS OUT CLEAN SOUND TO MY FIVE 4X6 SPEAKERS IN THE FACTORY LOCATIONS...THREE ARE MB QUARTS AND THE OTHER TWO ARE ALPINE..THE ONLY GRIPE I HAVE ABOUT THIS AMP IS THAT IT HAS A TENDENCY TO OVERHEAT ON A HOT DAY,BUT ITS JUST MOUNTED TO THE BACK WALL OF MY TRUNK,I HAVE NO FANS OR ANYTHING ON IT...IF I HAD IT TO DO OVER AGAIN,ID BUY THE SAME AMPS,BUT MAKE MYSELF A NICE AMP RACK WITH SOME BUILT IN COOLING FANS.

Strength:

Very clean sound while it worked !!

Weakness:

MTX should have reimbursed me for the shipping cost, and of course the obvious problem.

I purchased this amp along with the MTX 81000D. The 81000D has performed incredible with no real faults other than high power consumption considering that it's a digital amp, but the MTX-6304 has already been replaced twice each time not lasting more than a week. The problem I'm having with this amplifier is that one of the four channels is emitting a loud crackling and popping sound. I am a professional installer and trust me when I tell you that I have covered all my bases and the problem is definitely in the 6304. I purchased this amplifier from Circuit City but through a friend who was an employee and used his discount through MTX Direct. Each time the amp had a problem, I had to ship it back to MTX at my cost and I temporarily replaced it with a Kenwood that I've had for over 8 years while I waited for the new one to arrive and the problem never duplicated as soon as my replacement amp arrived, I re-installed it and not even three days later the problem re-occurred and this time in a completely different speaker. I am now on my Third MTX 6304 and although I received it over 4 months ago as of 04/24/03 I have yet to re-install it. I have changed my head unit From a Clarion VRX-815 to an Alpine CDA-7998 and because of the high amp draw of the MTX 81000D I have now also added a 2nd Optima battery I really hope that when I re-install the new 6304 the problem does not re-occur. The old Kenwood has now been installed in it's place for over 5 months and has no problems at all. But my custom amp rack was built for the 6304 and I really hope it works out. I WILL UPDATE SOON WITH A REPORT.

Strength:

Awesome sound from such low rated amps. All their amps are underrated.

Weakness:

what???

I love this amp. I have it running a pair of Excelon components in the front and bridged to power a 10" round Solo-baric in back. You are not going to set any SPL marks with this amp but, it is amazing how loud and clean this amp will produce with only 37 x 4. Mine actually will do 110 x 4 @ 2 ohms according to the birthsheet. Bridged power some where around 275 watts @ 4ohms. This is my 4th MTX amp. I have had a 4200x, 304, Blue Thunder 50x4, and now the 6304. I love MTX amps
