Strength:

compact size for the type of quality sound you get

Weakness:

As mentioned those silly terminals. And the fact that orion will most likely never respond to your email regarding the amp, So if you want this amp don`t expect to get any assistance from the manufacturer.

Great amp, sound imageing is perfect it is compact so you can mount it anywhere you would like.

Strength:

More boom for the buck, strong amp for deep lows. Just give it the juice and step back!

Weakness:

Those silly plugs! Can be worked with, but are temper-affecting for sure.

The Orion Cobalt Series, though looked down upon originally (myself included), has become an audio work of art. This amp can make 4 sets of separates play symphonically, or (when bridged to two Kicker 12" VR Comps) make the eyes rattle in your head. I opened it up, and compared to the 'better' XTR 500.4, it is the same amp. You are paying extra money for a black case and a few more letters in the name. I currently have this pushing some Clarion Pro Audio separates in the doors of my F-150, and a CS150.2 pushing my 2-Kickers pretty hard, with no gain and my Alpine sub controls set to 0 with no bass. All in all Orion, the old, pre-DEI owned Orion, kicks major nalgas.

Strength:

Stereo imaging and adjustable bass boost.

Weakness:

None but the expected lack of power, it is small.

I purchased the Orion not quite knowing the brand, especially in South Africa. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality of this amplifier. The bass boost, which I thought was a bit of a waste is great, and using it on a JL 15W0 does a beautiful jo on the low end.

Strength:

Low cost and high performance. The slim size makes it easy to install virtually anywhere in the car.

Weakness:

The case colour is not appealing at all.

Very good in overall frequency range, in particular, mid to high. I have a sub-woofer so it is a perfect match. I play West-Life CD and all sound tracks are very clear and solid. It makes 4 sets of speakers alive. Distortion and noise are not obvious. The price is definitely value for money.

Strength:

Great price, good sq, excellent build quality.

Weakness:

Im not too fond of the graphics on the front. But oh well.

For the price..you cannot beat this amp..bar nine. Great SQ..and has a massive amount of output for speakers.I wouldnt use this for a sub tho, but thats just cus i like a mad amount of power. For a basic system, I have no doubts that this would power a sub very well.

Strength:

Value,quality for not much money.

Weakness:

None for just powering speakers.

My underpowered sony es speakers needed to be amped and based on some research and reviews i tried this orion cobalt amp.Best decision i ever made. This amp is great. My speakers sound completely different.Mids are real clean and the overall sound is more revealing.I''m just running 4 speakers off it and it really brought them to life.I had it professionaly installed and the installer doesn,t sell Orion products but he told me they make great amps.If you just want to properly power your speakers with quality watts this orion is a great choice.

Strength:

Power output, elaborate heatsink design, wiring flexibility.

Weakness:

no preamp outputs.

This amp is a steal if you can get it for under $170. I got the deal of a lifetime though for $90. Crossover controls have "Clicking increments" which make it easy to set precise settings. Special plugs for power wire and speaker connections mean you don't have to splice any wires. Amp external design has always been a strong suit of Orion. Especially the new Cobalts. The external glass label on the amp is nice touch. X-bass comes in handy if you've bridged a sub to the rear channel.

This product replaces a Kenwood 648s, which really can't come close to this amp at all.

If you are considering this amp, do yourself a favor... GET IT! I know a lot of people who like Orion aren't very fond of the Cobalt series, but I would have to disagree. This is a very clean amp. The sound to mids and highs is AMAZING with very little noise turned up loud. Every note is crisp and clear almost like you're in the recording studio itself... of course, that's with good quality speakers as well. I actually recently switched to the Alpine MRV-F407 and am extremely disappointed. I thought with the 105 S/N ratio vs. cobalt's 90 and the higher watts/channel (although min rating on the Alpine is 40, the certificate has mine rated at 60), I'd be getting even better sound. Not so. In fact, it's much worse... especially in the mids. Did I mention the Alpine was almost twice as much too. :o( Anyway, I'm going back to the shop to have the cs400.4 put back in and can't wait!! I would also have to agree with the previous reviewer that it would probably not be the best for a sub. But, with the sound it puts out to mids and highs, it would be a shame to waste it on anything else. Just my two cents.

Strength:

nice cheap clean amp. Produces very good power to the highs and mids. Cheap to buy. Hardly any distortion even when turned up real high.

Weakness:

nuthing really. You gotta like the amp cover though..its a little wacky. I think it's cool though, but could see how others don't enjoy it.

Great amp for highs and mids. It has veariable hP and LP low THD ratio, a good S/N ratio..very clean. Wouldn't run subs with it, but it's a 4 channel so that's not what it's meant to do. It's meant to do. Nice amp for the money, and very very clean. Even has internal voltage adjuster thingies. I had a pop everytime i hit the breaks, due to voltage drop, I have none with this amp. Also hardly no noise.
