Model Reviewed: Same as other people on here

Strength:

-Nice bass (2 bass boost modes) -Faceplate looks good, easy to read and use -Overall good sound -MP3 playability, random feature is nice, CDRW support is nice -Removable faceplate with nice container -Blinking red light with faceplate off (fake alarm)

Weakness:

-Any CD play somewhat sensitive to bumps (varies) -Starts sounding bad at real loud volume (that''''s what an amp is for) -Treble seems lower than other models. I bought better speakers and that helped a lot. **Tip** If you replace any stock speakers with high quality ones, I highly recommend replacing all speakers. Otherwise it will take more power to run, and the high quality speakers will be piercing to the ears.

I''''ve had this headunit for about 10 months now. I always use CD-RWs, and the unit plays them reliably most of the time. Only my old CD-RWs work though. I bought some new ones and mp3 play kept pausing, even when the car was stopped. If you''''re having a problem, try different CD brands. The reflectiveness of the data surface varies among different manufacturers. Some work better than others. Skipping and pausing is an issue. The sensitivity of bumps varies, but when riding on a bad road it will usually pause here and there. About once a month when turning on the headuit, it will have an error reading the CD, requiring you to eject and reinsert to solve the problem. No big deal, just takes time to load again. This is a functional mp3 player that sounds good. 100 tracks on one CD is great. It''''s like your own radio station with high quality sound and no comercials. Just make sure you get nothing less than 160kbps, and 160kbps should only be when you can''''t get 192kbps.

Strength:

Price Features Remote Display panel Will read ANY CDRs you put in it (Sony & Kenwood units are picky, only reading the more expensive ones).

Weakness:

Sound quality not too good (that''s why I upgraded speakers and an amp).

Great unit. For $188 for a CD/MP3/CD changer (compatible), wireless remote, high power, detachable face... What more do you want. I had an old Sony CDX-C410 (1995) in my car, still works great after 7 years. Anyways, this Aiwa still works good. The only complaint I have is the skipping on standard CD playback (this unit has NO anti skip on regular CD). However, on MP3 encoded CD, it has NEVER skipped. This unit stores the MP3 file songs on memory so it doesn''t skip. The average MP3 is about 3.8MB, then all it needs is a 4mb ram (keeping the cost down instead of the 48mb it will need for a standard CD music format). Wonder why it takes several seconds, to jump to the next track when playing MP3''s??? That''s called caching, meaning it stores it in memory, then plays back for no skipping. My other complaint is when listening to standard BURNED CDs, at times it can''t read it so I have to eject it, and insert it again. But I think this is due to the cheap CDRs I buy, since I never experience that with the Fuji or Maxell ($2.49 ea that I buy). 50pk/spindle for $7.99 = CHEAP MATERIAL!

Strength:

Audio output is very good. MP3 playback is very convenient.

Weakness:

Remote control - only functions when it is in vicinity of radio and aimed directly at it. Skipping - Haven''t had major problems but it''s a bit annoying. CD Reading Errors - also haven''t had major problems but it does happen.

You get what you pay for. I''m glad I got it on sale. Lately, I haven''t had any problems with the unit reading CD''s but I haven''t burned any new CD''s. It seems to have a problem reading new CD''s the first few times you pop it in. Afterwards, there isn''t any problem. Haven''t had any major problems with skipping but it does skip every so often. I''m satisfied with the unit considering the price I paid for it and being able to fit 10-12 albums on one CD is very convenient. Also the unit produces good sound.

Strength:

NONE

Weakness:

Display generates too much heat, gets too hot. No dimmer, need to flip panel down so as not to be distracted driving at night. Unit overheats. Error 03. Weak rubber band for remote. Face scratches easily. Face plate carrying case cheap and breaks after use. Face plate not as easy to pop into place as it could be.

What can you say about a product where half the people say it''s a piece of junk? Nothing good. I got the dreaded ERROR 03 after 11.5 months. Took it in for repairs, they said they fixed it but they didn''t. Won''t fix it again because it''s now out of warranty. It played fine for almost a year, then suddenly gave me the ERROR 03 and stopped playing MP3s. Still plays CDs but won''t read MP3s from CDRs. Tried several different CDR brands, CDRW, burn speeds, file types. All burns read fine on a dozen computers running a variety of OSes, but not on the CDC. Piece of junk.

Its cheap. But you get what you pay for.

Weakness:

hmm...the whole thing is pretty weak.

Bought this head unit on Jan. 6th, returned it on March 7th. This headunit is garbage. The mass amount of skipping this produces makes me even wonder if it was made to read CD''s. On MP3 cd''s, the track would play for a couple minutes, and then freeze. I would then have to hold down the fast forward button for 1 sec. and it would resume again. Also, the button that controls power/mute on the face plate also stopped working after 3 weeks of use! And I didnt even bother with the P.O.S remote that mounts on the steering wheel. HIGHLY don''t recommend.

Just replaced it with the Sony MP3 player. Seems to work great so far, only used it about 2 hours though.

Radio sounded OK.

Weakness:

All CDs skip, MP3 CDs do not play properly, ID3 tags only show first 30 characters. UGLY faceplate.

This thing was a piece of crap. Skipped like crazy whenever I hit any sort of bump. MP3 CDs which play perfectly fine on my RioVolt skip, crack, and screech. NOT recommended. I returned it after a week.

Skips and is retarded on reading mp3''s or cd''s

This thing is a hunk of crap. They sent me the wrong unit at first the cdcmp3 and it did not work. mp3''s skip, cd''s skip. Then when they sent the cdcmp32 it does the same thing. I have tried several different types of media and programs to burn with as well. It even has problems playing normal cd''s. The remote that mounts to the steering wheel is a joke. It only works when it is some what pointing at the unit. I have called Aiwa and they informed me to send it in for repair, they would not replace the unit. Trust me pay the extra $75.00 for a better unit, like JVC, or Clarion. My friend just bought a Clarion and it works great..

I am happy with the sound and controls of the AIWA. Detachable face has been faithfull for over a year. My main gripe is the tuner. In San Francisco there is one station I got to have any it comes in spotty. Overall it''''s a decent deck. It was the least expensive MP3 player to come out first.
