Strength:

This unit is sick!!Awesome display with easy to use features and produces and awesome sound through your amp of choice due to being a dead head!!Bass engin and time correction with the parrametric eq are def a plus when usin for SQ!!!I would buy this unit over and over again if they were still in production.Best thing since the 7909!!Hands down!

Weakness:

The motorized face and gearing mech is the only down fall to this unit.It has to be treated with the upmost care to prevent anyone or anything from bumping the screen.bumping the face real hard can prevent the face from going back in the unit correctly.

Other than the gearing on the face bein a sometimes issue ,The 7998 is by far one of the best head units made on the planet.Im just sorry alpine quit making this unit or I would have one in every car I own.Flashy, easy to use and just all around good unit to have in any car from everyday use to competions!

Rodbust phantom face mechanism. Excellent audio output.

Weakness:

i personalize doesnt work, takes some getting use to the controls

This is one of the best units on the market. The audio output control exceeds any other head unit and the functionality is easy to navigate on the head unit. Sound quality is amazing on this unit, definetely for the serious audio enthusiast

Strength:

sound quality, parametric eq, crossover, nice display and 4v preouts

Weakness:

menu sytem is a touch fiddly, phone function works only with nokia handsets (and needs an expensive add on!)

(price in AUD) This is probably alpine's best CD tuner yet! detailed sound adjustments like multi crossover with variable slope, parametric eq, time correction etc are possible. The 4V preouts certainly help the amps. i'm using JLaudio amps/subs, and focal components. the sound is clear and detailed. the unit has no internal amp, but anyone willing to spend this kinda money on CD tuners would'nt want one. The menu system is less than intuitive. The remote is pretty basic. MP3 feature is good but CDs obviously sound a lot better. And the media expander function doesnt make sense.

Strength:

Great sound/display. Phantom face. Lots of options.

Weakness:

Tough to cycle through all the options and features.(Don't recommend playing with it while driving) Phone features only work with Nokia phones and the adapter costs $300. Basically a useless feature unless you will spend the money or switch your phone plan to have a Nokia phone.

Overall a great deck. Love the over sized face. Great display/matches perfectly to the colors in my Firebird. Awesome sound quality.

sound, looks, features

Weakness:

no color screen savers, but hey, if you're into that get yourself a pioneer or something (you'll miss out of the sound quality)

Great unit...I've have many different receiversm the last 2 of which were stolen. This was one of my main reasons for getting this Alpine, the phantom face that retracts into the dash. Overall the sound is excellent, I would say just a notch below the Clarion 9675z. However, this has more features...most impressively excellent MP3 processing. Many features, options, things to toy around with. The remote is very functional, more so than the clarion's, it also controls the angle of the face (useless, but cool). The is an expensive, high performance unit for serious car audio enthusiasts. Hasn't been stolen (yet).

The S/N for the radio is outstanding and the MP3 player's not that bad either.

Weakness:

There's no internal amp, but hey you'd be better off getting an external amp anyway.

Awesome sound! If you want (but can't afford) the F#1, this is the next best thing. I'm using this with my Alpine F450 bi-amp and Alpine F177A speakers. Using the DTC is an incredible experience as it lets me tweak the sound coming to the driver's position- just listening to CDs like Cafe Del Mar makes the instruments really sound crisp. Also, as I am using a BMW 323 e46, the amber glow on this unit matches my dashboard.
