Model Reviewed: Blaupunkt Munchen

Strength:

Ease of Eq settings. Output voltage. Great Tuner. Good Crossover. Clarity is above almost anything out there! Looks.

Weakness:

No fancy screens or motors rolling the face, but who needs all that anyway.

Loved it the first time I saw it. Best sounding deck I have owned in 15 years. Many features and great tuner. Read the owners manual and enjoy it!!

This Stereo is Awesome! With so many different sound-changing features, it's hard to beat. The DPI is great, different equalizer settings. Bass and Treble tuning feature(I don't know what they're called...). And many, many more feature

Strength:

Digital Tuner ~ Surprisingly Skip-Free CD

Weakness:

Daytime Illumination - Washes out in bright sunlight

I bought the Munchen for the high quality tuner (paid $289 on eBay). I didn't really expect the CD mechanism to work very well in the old '63 bus that I drive, it's got to be the roughest ride in history, but I was very surprised. It doesn't skip!!! The tuner is great; it holds on to the signal when going through radio-free canyons better than anything else I ever used. It has an automatic clock-time-set feature, which sets itself based on radio signals received, however, it's setting itself exactly 40 minutes behind the correct time. I don't know if it's a malfunction, or just a bad signal from the wacko radio station I listen to (Pacifica Radio). Sound quality is very good, with lots of adjustment capability. It has a few presets: Rock, Jazz, Classical, etc., and also allows the user to define his/her own. It comes with a wireless remote which mounts on the steering wheel, although I haven't installed this yet. It has RDS(Radio Data System), but not many of the stations in Los Angeles use this system yet.

Strength:

Everything. Easy to use, bright picture, excellent sound quality. Especially love the fact that radio reception is always clear. Radio reception isn't too good in Ann Arbor.

Weakness:

None

I highly recommend this unit for anyone, especially if installing it in a european car, which it is designed to fit. I also reccomend it for Chrysler GM wehicles, because it takes up the space a lot better than regualar din sized radios do.
The radio reception is unbelievable, and there are such a plethora of settings to adjust radio reception. This is a must for anyone that spend a lot of time listening to the radio, especially if you live in an area that has poor radio reception.
The radio looks intimidating, but I assure you that it is much easier to use. In fact, I commend blaupunkt on its design and big display.
I installed this radio in a '97 911 Porsche and it looks and performs incredibly well. I especially recommend this unit to install in a porsche, because the blaupunkt's connection is identicle to that of the porsche's wiring. It plugs right in!

Strength:

AWESOME sound quality..... DPE is an awesome addition to an otherwise great head unit. Radio reception is of the quailty i have come to expect from brands like Kenwood, and Pioneer. "thummer" remote control works wel no matter how my steering wheel is positioned. Face-plate controls look intimidating yet ease of use is undiscribable. 5v pre-amp outputs (F,R& summed mono for sub) make expansion super easy! KEYCARD security is the bomb!

Weakness:

The face is large..... I had to have my dash cut for it to fit my car properly. The guys at FRY'S in Wilsonville OR did an awesome job.... trade of getting my dash cut. i'm very happy

It retails for $499, i got it for 168 on my discount... yet after owning it i would refer it to ANYONE. It honestly has features for anyone. With the bonus of a EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN through BLUAPUNKT with for $30 your unit is cover 3 years 100% replacement is defective and 100% replacement if stolen!!!!! ( follow KEYCARD instruction to the T)
