Strength:

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED SOUND QUALITY, THIS IS A PIECE TO BE HIGHLY CONSIDERED. I WONT RATTLE OFF ALL THE TECHNICAL DETAILS BUT IT SHOULD BE MENTIONED THAT THE DECK HAS TWO 20-BIT BURR-BROWN D/A CONVERTERS AND 4 VOLT OUTPUTS. THE DECK DELIVERS INCREDIBLE SOUND.

Weakness:

THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT I WISH IT HAD A REMOVABLE FACE BUT THAT WOULD HAVE TAKEN UP MORE ROOM.

THE CLARION 9255 IS ONE TERRIFIC CD PLAYER. IF YOU MAIN GOAL IS SONIC QUALITY, THEN THIS IS A DECK TO BE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.IT IS A VERY SIMPLE DECK TO OPERATE AND DOES NOT COME WITH A LOT OF USELESS FEATURES OR GLOWING LIGHTS. IT HAS AN OLD FASHIONED ROTARY KNOB AND ALL THE NECESSARY CONTROLS. I HAD READ CERTAIN CRITICISMS THAT CD'S WOULD SKIP IN THIS DECK. I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE TOTALLY UNTRUE AND BELIEVE THAT AS LONG AS THE DECK IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY, YOU WILL BE IN SONIC HEAVEN. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DECK. HOOK IT UP TO QUALITY SPEAKERS AND A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF AMPLIFICATION AND YOU WILL BE ALL SET. I HAVE A ZAPCO AMP WITH 150 X 2 IN THE FRONT AND 6.5 DIAMOND HEX SPEAKERS AND TWEETS AND HAVE REAR FILL AND A SUB IN THE TRUNK. ONE LAST POINT . I BELIEVE CLARION HAS STOPPED PRODUCING THIS DECK AS I HAD A HARD TIME FINDING ONE. YOU MAY HAVE TO LOOK INTO A USED ONE OR FIND A DEALER THAT STILL HAS THE PIECE IN STOCK. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, DROP ME A LINE.

I HAD ALL KINDS OF MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE SONY. THE LASER NEVER WORKED PROPERLY AND THE MOTORIZED FACEPLATE HAD MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. THE CLARION 9255 WILL PLAY ANY DISC FLAWLESSLY AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT MECHANICALLY.

Strength:

quality sound, tight bass, and a really head above the rest of other h.u i've ever heard. The burr-brown 20bit and the high voltage is what differing it from any other.

Weakness:

After long period of playing, 3hrs or more, cd tends to get hot easily. If not installed correctly, player jitters easily. Solve the problem by installing it isomounted and every jiterry problem fixed

after letting it burn for more than a week, the cd player is best listened. I first listened to it with my old RF 225.2 and 160.4 with JL 10W6 pair and ID chameleon 5.25 in my honda accord... it just sounds amazing... finally i sold the car and all the equipment to my friend who owned a 96 honda, while he has an excellon h.u, the bass gets muddy though using same sealed, custom box and all the same amp. The sound quality is not as warm and detail anymore.
So i was guessing that it might be the h.u and it's true. When i install it in my Infiniti I30, the sound quality was 10x better than the OEM Bose.

Strength:

Everything

Weakness:

None

Hands down, industry standard for SQ. I agree with clarion, get rid of the stupid, pretty, useless features, and make something easy to use that sounds incredible. I hear things in my car that are inaudible on any other system. I have never had skipping problems, even at full output (145db). If it skips, you've mounted it poorly. My system sends chills through my spine, especially with female vocals. I could write another page of raves, but you get the picture.

Great Sound Quality, well built, love the knob and still sexy. BUT, I will warn you, it will SKIP at medium to HIGH SPL levels. 2 units tested, both skipped.. This makes it suck for competition.

I purchased this unit for its exceptionally clean and detailed sounding CD section. Coupled with the fact that it is one of the very few units with the ability to connect a fiber optical cable to a CD changer and really make use of those dual "Burr-Brown" DAC's. I enjoy its straight forward design and simplicity. If its flashing LED's, scrolling titles and dancing EQ settings that your after than this isnt the unit for you.
Build quality is apparent here as well topping off this unit and making it an easy decission to give a FIVE STAR rating! In fact, heres five more *****

Strength:

Sounds better than anything else. Analog volume, fade, balance, bass, and treble controls. Easy to use. Very clean looks. This is by far the best sounding unit I have ever heard.

Weakness:

No security, but who cares?

Sounds awesome, looks awesome, totaly functional unit with no silly extras.

Similar Products Used:

Eclispe 5443 and Clarion DRX4475, these two units are fine, but there is no question that the 9255 is leaps ahead in sound.
