Strength:

Rotary controls feel real cool, the sound when put through 4xboston acoustic's or 4xpioneer 220 watt 6x9's has so far pumped out hard, this head is comparable in sound reproduction to the alpine in my other car.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Weakness:

I never got the remote.Bummer.

For a head deck you could do a lot worse but not too much beter.

Model Reviewed: Eclipse CD3414 CD/MP3 Deck

Strength:

Sound Quality-This is a giant step up from a factory deck and most other inexpensive aftermarket decks. Eclipse houses their amplifier separate from their tuner and CD reader within the deck to decrease interference and distortion. FM and AM tuners (18FM, 12 AM presets)- I get radio stations that I never knew about with this deck. It has an FM sensitivity of 13dbf. The range and quality of the reception is incredible. Controls- The buttons have their own unique feel, allowing you to operate the deck without taking your eyes off the road. Like all controls, though, they take some getting used to.

Weakness:

The display- At some angles the display might seem a little too bright at night.

This Eclipse deck is a great buy! It plays CD-R's, CD-RW's and MP3 files, displays CD text and doesn't load you up with unneccesary features. Eclipse goes for quality and simplicity. The display is a blue background with white characters. The two rotary knobs have a good feel and give you easy control on the most important features (left- volume, bass, treble, balance, fader, and loudness control) (right- skip tracks). The other buttons have a good unique feel so you don't get confused in a mass of controls that look and feel the same, giving you a safer time driving. When listening to the radio, you can choose the display to read the bandwidth or the clock. When listening to a CD or MP3, you can choose CD-text, Track and Time, or the clock. The display is easily readable from all angles and bright enough for the daytime and nightime. The 160(40x4) watt amplifier gives you more than enough power and sends a crystal clear sound to your speakers. (for more detail, see Strengths). 2 pair of preamp outputs give you the front and rear channels to send to separate amplifiers. The manual explains clearly how everything works on the deck and how to install it into your car. The security- this deck uses a specific CD, that you can choose, as a 'key' to the player if power is lost to it. You choose the Cd and then put it in a secret place that no one else knows about it, and you can discourage theft. All in all, this CD deck may seem pricey for the features you get, but the quality of the sound is undeniable and you get the features that really count.

Similar Products Used:

I've used a sony Xplod CD deck-it's buttons were clumsy and cheap feeling and the sound quality didn't really match up.
