Strength:

PLays all Rate MP3's and also has one of the higher pre-amp outputs at 3V.

Weakness:

crapppy controls that are not eaily replaceable.

at first this was a Really good sounding unit that seemed to work as it was supposed to ( after I read the directions on MP3's and etc... seems directory structure is important)but after about 4 months the volume started to go crazy and now it's a daily even hourly or more occurance to have to reach for the mute to keep my speakers from getting blown out as the radio goes for top volume on its own.

Strength:

Low price. Flaws aside, the quality is decent.

Weakness:

Audio CDs (non-MP3) skip constantly. MP3s occasionaly have 1-second sound flaws. Listen to an MP3 disc, turn your car off and back on, and often times the GUI says the CD is playing, yet there is no output. You have to eject the CD and insert it again to let the deck re-scan the disc. It is a pain to navigate through a disc packed full with MP3s, even when folders are used.

Fork out the extra money for a higher quality MP3 deck from a company other than Jensen. I've toughed it out with this model for over a year. It needs a firmware upgrade, but since Audiovox bought Jensen, the model is no longer listed on the website (see http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/GenProductListCmd?categoryId=5014&type=nprev&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&pageSize=10&beginIndex=10&model=null), so it's impossible to find updated firmware

Strength:

Good sound, easy controls

Weakness:

Cheap micoswitches behind the front panel, and there must be at least 20 of them. Weak radio reception, it didn't automatically pick up half the stations my factory provided stereo was able to.

In 15 months of use this has been a fairly good product, I mainly use it for the MP3 function. In this time I have had a couple of problems. The first was the CD/MP3 stopped working; CD wouldn't work and a disk with MP3s would stay on file search. I sent it in to Protech (Jensen's repair facility, they sent it back with a letter saying they could find nothing wrong, however it now worked. The second problem happened right after it went out of warranty, you hit a bump in the road and the volume would either max out or decrease to nothing. Since I have repaired complex electronic equipment since the sixties I opened it up and discovered both the up and down volume microswitches mounted on the circuit board behind the faceplate had gone bad. I used acouple of other microswitches from the circuit board (the reset and loudness switches, since I rarely used these switches) to get the volume back working correctly. I then called Protech, 3953 St. Johns Parkway, Sanford, FL 32771. Telephone 407/330-6200, fax at 407/330-6204, and explained the problem and that I would like to either get some switches from them or have them provide me the manufacturers name and part number. They informed me that not only could they not provide the parts, but they also would not provide me the name of the Korean manufacturer of these switches, however they would be more then happy to repair the radio, for a price. Jensen has also been bought out by Audiovox. If anyone out there has an old MP 3310 that doesn't work I'd be willing to take it off of your hands for the switches.

Strength:

Decent sound when used with a subwoofer. Looks good. Plays .mp3's with no problem. Good reception.

Weakness:

CHEAP controls, not anywhere near the 180 watts output advertised. Only good for 1 year.

I bought one of these for the mp3 playback and the amp outputs. It worked fine for about a year and then the volume started going all whacky. So I traded it in and got another one. That was in Nov. of 2002. About Nov of last year the replacement started doing the same thing. A day later my truck died and I forgot about it. Since I am about to sell the truck I took the stereo out and took it apart to find the cause of the problem. Seems the push switches are cheap crap and they wore out. Otherwise it worked just fine for me.

Worked great for about a year.

Weakness:

Breaks less than a month after warranty wears out and mp3 function wasn't user friendly

I really liked this unit, the red screen was a little strange at first, but it grew on me. I got it last christmas and this year I went to see a friend for a month around Dec. When I left it worked fine, but now when I try to play a CD all I get is an "Error 1" message. I tried to reset it, but nothing seems to work. Figures it would break shortly after the year warranty runs out. I never could get the mp3 function to work with CDRs or CDRWs, but that could be user error.

Strength:

Inexpensive with decent sound quality if it works, reads CD-R's, better than most OEM outputs.

Weakness:

Not the most reliable unit in the world, Looks like about 30% of all reviews are negative. Also, the mp3 organization could use some work. If you don't know the number of the track off the top of your head, have fun sorting through 150 songs.

Installation was easy (good work Crutchfield!) and at first seemed to work all right. Then about three hours of use, it started skipping with CD's. After a couple days, the CD player was basically unusable because the skipping was so bad (tried about 10 different CD's, all new, on smooth pavement). MP3 worked for a little while longer, but not much. Over the last couple days, the MP3 has gotten less and less reliable. It either skips very hard or won't play tracks at all. Also there appear to be a lot of artifacts on the CD that other mp3 players don't pick up at all. I finally ordered a Blaupunkt with the largest anti-skip memory I could find and am sending the Jensen back. What a shame. Apparently I got a bum unit, but I'm not going to go through the trouble of sending it in for warranty work every two weeks. Buy one for a 2/3 chance of getting a decent deal, but you might like me get stung. Fortunately Crutchfield is very good about returns.

Strength:

Appears to run any CD-R, Plenty of power, decent tuner, fading preamp output, easy to read display even when the sun is shining directly on it.

Weakness:

scan feature not sensitive enough. Does not play CD-RW's no matter WHAT the box says. Uses a titling convention slightly different than CDDB which results in the "Artist" screen being blank 99% of the time. I recommend the Folder name be the artist name / album name and it works ok. Requires as much as 4 button pushes to get the time to display in CD-R mode.

Bought it for the MP3 playback capability and found it worked heroically with CD-R's but not CD-RW's. On a ten day road trip we listened to it exclusively. Drove to Orlando and back from Boston. The red display color is almost exactly the same as my Pontiac Bonneville's dashboard color with the lights up all the way. I wish it had a black faceplate you would have no idea it wasn't stock. The FM tuner is better than the stock radio by far but lacks a mono override for when stereo stations do not come in well and the scan function skips over stations which are listenable but not above the scan threshold which seems to be higher than the "next station" button. tuning manually is difficult. The "down" tuning is more sensitive to signal than the "up" tuning and the both are more sensitive than the "scan" button which ONLY works going "up" the dial. The multifunction adjustments ad e basically good but tyou use the down button to fade forward and the up button to fade to the rear. this seems backwards even after owning the unit for a year. The preamp output is rear channel only but fades with the speaker level output to the rear which is nice. The unit is remote controlled but does not come with the hand held unit which would have come in handy oncwe or twice. Install was straight forward and the chassis was considerably shorter than some competitor's models which would not let them fit in my Buick Lesabre (96). I run it through Pioneer 3-way 6x9's in the rear and the GM stock (really good sounding for some reason) front 5" door speakers. I have threatened to upgrade them but keep enjoying the sound I have. I also run a Fosgate 12" 8 ohm woofer in a Wal Mart speaker box with a cheap-o 120 watt amplifier in the trunk. It is a really good sounding but inexpensive set up. This head unit pushes enough power (40+ watts per channel) to drive the speakers well above conversation level and actually sounds very clean. I have copied all my CD's onto MP3 format and challange people to hear the difference between the CD and the MP-3 most people cannot. MP-3 is convenient if a little slower accessing tracks. I have not had problems accessing full CD-R's or any cd-r anyone has ever put into the unit.

Strength:

Plays MP3 disks well; almost never skips. CD's play great too! Doubled my radio reception. Much higher-quality audio over the factory casette player I had before.

Weakness:

It doesn't read 700mb disks past about 640mb, but that's still enough room for 150-200 songs. It stopped working twice, but upon pressing the reset button it fired right back up.

I bought this mp3 player for my Oldsmobile about a year ago and used it right up to when I got a new car about a month ago. It's served me great so I plan to purchase a nother one for my new car.
