Strength:

Great sound for classical. Awesome aesthetics. Love the text display. Aux in. Motorized faceplate (and detachable - USE IT!).

Weakness:

Didn't eject some cds all the way. That's it.

I bought this player more than three years ago from Best Buy. Because it had recently been discontinued, the price was only $100 (with free install. Score!!) I thought this was one a great player - one of the best I've ever had. I'm a huge classical junkie and this is one of very few players with enough clarity to hear the different elements of an orchestra. I also think it is the best-looking player I've ever seen. Sadly, It was stolen a few weeks ago by a morally bankrupt body shop worker. This review is my eulogy. Like most people here, it only ejected some cds halfway but I have little fingers so it wasn't really a problem. But I will try to find a KD SH77 to replace it (same great look and no one has mentioned being unable to eject cds). If you have this ALWAYS TAKE THE FACEPLATE OFF!!! The only time I didn't was the time it was stolen.

Just got a new JVC (KD-G420) but don't like the look and the sound is muddy with few controls to adjust EQ so I'm looking for another of these. Cross your fingers for me.

Strength:

Nice features, powerful, nice appearance, comes with remote.

Weakness:

Display could be more colorful other than that nothing.

I think that the cd player is great for what I paid for it. It goes well with my grey leather interior and the the features are nice as well. It's running Infinity components and I have a Rockford Fosagte 360a2 amp which pushes 2 JL Audio 12 WOs. The S-Bass feature really puts extra bass into the music and can really be felt through the subs. I can fine tune the lows, mids, and highs as well. I've enjoyed this CD player since I've owned it. I have experienced problems with the CD not ejecting out all the way but it's only happened 2 or 3 times with me since I've had it installed. It's a really powerful head unit. When I had my amp hooked up the the component sets I couldn't turn the volume past 6 without my ears RINGING. Now that I only have the amp running the subs I never have to turn the volume past 30 even on the open road driving about 85-90. It's a nice head unit and the features a comparable to the 2 Pioneer units I previously owend. The display cold be more colorful but other than that I'm pleased with the purchase.

Weakness:

It doesn't want to eject cds...:(

Let's start from the beginning. I put a Clarion DB-315 into my car, but i bought it for $10. I figured that it was a good enough deal because it was a cd player. It played cd's well enough until it started to skip everything, so i decided that i'd upgrade to the JVC. I Bought this thing for $250 canadian at Future Shop. I've had the JVC for about 3 days so far and I love the look, and it has amazing sound quality, but it has this little problem of not wanting to eject my cd's. This is not a good thing by any means. It took me an hour trying to get my cd out. Going back to see if i can get that fixed tomorrow.

Strength:

Features/Price, Vastly improved sound quality, works well with stock speakers (my $ goes to my engine, not my ice)

Weakness:

Not many I can think of, daytime display isn't the greatest, but if you can't deal with that then I pity you, fool.

Why is it that everyone seems to have been ripped off on pricing....? Hmmm, don't know but i paid 220 with mine, $4 install from best buy and free cd, score. The features are great in this price range and the 8 adjustables on the eq with the S-Bass boost is rather nice, great deal I think.

Built with Sony parts, cant eject cds

The first Deck I ever bought was a Sony, after about one year it started to have "trouble" ejecting the cds. So I bought a Pioneer DEH-P3000 worked great then I put it in my girlfriends car (I should have never got rid of it). So I got the JVC I thought it looked great, still do. But after two months it couldnt eject the cds anymore. It would stick about 1/2 inch of the cd out of the slot and that was it, you would have to grab it with your fingers before it would pull it back in. It still has problems with ejecting now and then. I feel 300 dollars for this deck was a rip off!! Especially after I found out that Sony makes most of the parts for the player. We took the radio apart and a big "SONY" was engraved inside of the JVC cd player. Well that proves my point Every Sony car audio product I have seen has had problems with ejecting cds. Did Sony buy out JVC??

Aluminum, looks, features, 24 bit proccessing.

Weakness:

Hard to see display in during the day. 9 factory presets? Come on, what do they know. Not that strong of a tuner.

I was planning on getting a Kenwood even though I have happily owned JVC car stuff for years. Then I saw the "55". I was impressed by the looks and so I asked to see the manual for specs. and features which are pretty good. I like the parametric eq. I think it''s pretty adequate for getting the right sound in your car. I also like having the 3rd "volume adjustable" pre-out which, I have connected a "Bazooka" to. I think the sound is pretty good. I wish you didn''t have to cycle through so much to adjust bass or treble levels and it doesn''t change back so you can adjust the volume fast enough. I also think the preset eq settings are a waste. JVC is big on this in all their products. It''s like, how do they know how I want my sound? They usually are way off in my book. I think it is easy to use and there is not too much useless crap going on in the display. Overall, I think it''s a good deck. I just wish it was available in black aluminum to match my black interior, but then that would be perfect and nothing is perfect.

Broke and its starting to do it again, The rms power is only like 19watts per channel, I looked it up and for the price it paid its really not that good.

To be fooled After owning a JVC cd player once before and having good luck with it, I went ahead a bought a new one. Right away I noticed that it ejected slowly and sometimes would get hung up half way out. Then one day it got stuck inside and would not eject at all. The screen said there was no disk inside. I had to have it repaired. And now its ejecting slow again. Wish I would have bought a Alpine.

Strength:

24 bit upsampling face good looks and build

Weakness:

little to no bass management(at least not like the pioneer decks)

This is by far the best sounding deck in the mid price range. For those of you who don''t know anything the Burr-Brown chip in the digifine is one of the best. While only going down to 40Hz the build in amp is pretty capable too. But you shouldn''t be useing that anyway. With its good looks and JVC''s attention to detail make this an awesome deck for $300. By the way unless your deck color is friggin'' pink who gives?
