Worked great for about 5 months, then one day I ejected a cd and took me a couple of minuites to find another one. Wile I was searching it made a little noise, then when I went to put a new cd in the cd wouldn't go in like it was locked up. radio still works, but won't take cd's ever since. Please help!

Strength:

BBE -great quality sound, 2 sets of preamp outs, CD text, Great face/colors/lights, Line input & cd changer capabilities, Flip down removable face

Weakness:

The preamp outs are only 2 volts, The paint on the buttons wears off after time(I guess thats normal though), I have a hard time making myself leave my truck.

Just bought this deck off of ebay used. Great little deck, it is the best sounding car cd player that I have ever heard. The BBE makes the music sound extremely good. This is the best sounding deck I have ever owned. The remote is a real plus also. So far I have had absolutely no problems with this deck. It has probably been used for 2 years before I bought it and it's still running flawless.

Roadgear, Koss, Pioneer. Don't know any model numbers.

Strength:

Excellent sound quality

Weakness:

Fails to read some CDs

I bought it because it had the line-in input. Like the display, the CD text, the sound quality. BUT I have 3 CD where it errs and skips and the CDs are not scrached. ( just burnt in imperfectly). neither my Home stereo not $90 portable skip on those CDs. I have attached CHX-350 CD changer and it skips on those CD, too. Overall, it's an only gripe that I have with the unit.

Strength:

BBE, CD text, cool display, auxilary input for minidisc/walkmans, 4 programmable EQ settings.

Weakness:

Face surface a little too polished, causing some annoying sunlight reflection. Remote control only useful if you're in the back seat.

I have the SX-949 model (gold plated aux input, credit card remote). Bought it from eCloseout for about $190. The BBE function (some sort of EQ contour) is excellent on normal music, but AMAZING on acoustic guitars. It sounds like you're inside the guitar...very crisp. Another cool feature is on some CD, the titling appears automatically (Incubus' Make Yourself and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. are the only ones I have found so far.) I also like the multiple programmable EQ settings. Have not had a problem since I got it.

Strength:

Looks great, wonderful sound, when the third unit I got from Sears finally works flawlessly

Weakness:

Product might not come with the top quality. The first unit had "chep" sounds even press the preset buttons to change statation. The sencond unit missed some segments on the display. AM sensitivity is lower than the original receiver.

Paid $259 from Sears to replace my orignal car cassette player on my Toyota Avalon. The sound quality is smuch better than the ariginal "premium" cass. receiver with its separate ammplifier!

The built quality definitely is a quetion mark because I had to get the third one to install on my car right and which wasted my a whole day to travel between the installer and the store (Sears is NOT providing car audio installation)! But after it works, I do appreciate the sound quality I got, and I hope that I just in bad luck to pick up those two bad receivers (I wonder how it can skip through the QA).

Strength:

great look, easy to configure, decent sound

Weakness:

remote control doesn't have few useful functions

I paid $200 for that unit, I actually have a 949 model. It's the same as 940 but with gold plated connections and credit card style remote. Overall the unit is great. It looks cool, sounds great and isn't very expensive. Also I found that aux audio input very handy - can plug my walkman and listen to tapes. The dimmer feature is also a good one. I am using it for more than a year now and I am very satisfied. The unit doesn't have all those expensive extra features however. It is a receiver for people who want great sound at affordable price.

The SX940 has a great display and sounds excellent. It has the ability to control and change, to your individual taste, almost everything on the deck. From the dimmer, to reseting the factory defaults for the different preset audio this deck is a great unit.
This deck is well worth the look.
