Strength:

The volume (used for multiple adjustments, actually) is great. You can feel the quality - like the feel of a good german car door. treble, mid and bass adjustments are nice to have. 4V pre-amp outs are an excellent design feature. Aux in RCA jacks allowed me to pre-wire an input for my PJB-100 MP3 player. Now I have all my CD's with me when I want to.

Weakness:

None that I have found yet.

What a fantastic head unit! It reminds me a lot of the XR-75 Sony tape head unit I had back in 1985, in that it isn't about gadgets and flashing lights and multi-color displays, but instead focuses on outstanding sound quality, ease of use and features that are important to someone who enjoys listening to their audio equipement, not playing with it. I paid $320 on the web.

Strength:

This unit is simple and easy to use and has an understated quality in terms of build and ergonomics. Not overbearing but compared to other nits i have used the sound quality is scintillating. Used with an audio control powered bass amplifier it provides a clean sound which is light years ahead of alpine

Weakness:

for sound quality alone it is nearly incomparable but for features and gizmos it is lacking.

an excellent unit with clean sound

Strength:

Can you say SQ!!!! clearity, tightness and fullness of music all in one. Make an amp sound stronger with NO distortion. Very pleasent to the touch...Ease of use

Weakness:

doesn't play lower quality cd-r music well. with this unit you shouldn't stoop to the level of playing those cds anyways :)

This unit with the 20 dac brings you into a state of one with your music. For under $1000 you will not find a finer unit to listen too. i've heard the NAK-100 is awsome too. My high end speakers just eat up the sound. I didn't realize what a difference an H/U made until I got this unit...Bravo NAK Bravo!! You can get one on Ebay for around 300 bucks. If your wondering should I spend the money the answer starts with a Y and ends with an S!!!

Strength:

great sound - better than the system in my living room

Weakness:

not as skippy as reported by the reviews. but the detachable face feels very flimsy

I love this unit. My boyfriend bought it for his car but it ended in mine instead. He's bought an Alpine since and has been whining ever since my car sounds better than his. I guess that's why he keeps driving my car. Also, we both have infinity kappa speakers, so the speakers aren't variables.I recommend this product to anyone except those who don't want loved ones taking their car for extended joyrides.

Model Reviewed: 1992 Honda Prelude 4WS

Strength:

- 20 bit dac
- 4v preouts
- sounds amazing
- looks stock

Weakness:

- skips on most cdr's, usually when the unit is COLD (and this is a problem in Canada)
- skips if there is a scratch on the cd
- poor tuner/radio reception
- not as flashy as other head units (still, not a bad thing)

If this unit didn't skip so much and had better radio reception I wouldn't be able to find any flaws in it. Due to the 20 bit dac it is sensitive to any minor scratch or imperfection on the cd, so I guess they had to sacrifice reliability for the high quality sound. Anyway, I still love it...

Strength:

Amazing sound quality, understated, looks like the stock head unit, which prevents theft.

Weakness:

Will skip with CD's with very minor skratching.

This player's sound beats all other headunits in its price range by a mile.
I can't ever remember hearing a better unit. But watch out for how it skips with only minimal skratches on the cd.

Strength:

I have NAD equipment in my home. The CD player produces as accurately as my NAD 515 changer. The built in power is sufficient for everyday use without an amplifier.

Weakness:

The radio is not as good as the same priced eclipse.

I first had purchased an eclipse 54110. Had a constant crackle in it. I then tried another one and had the same problem. After looking and listening I decided to purchase the best, the 45z. I have this in a 1991 civic 4dr. It runs through a Mcintosh MC420 and sounds awesome. The sound stage and depth of the music are truly incredible. I am only using Polk EX602A speakers, and still the sound is superb.

I was looking for a realistic sounding h/u that would not tire me on long trips. The 45z pleases every time. Do your research, but give this unit serious consideration if you ENJOY listening to music.

Tested all others in the price range (up to $500.00). The 45z surpassed all of them in cd sound.

Strength:

Unbelievable imaging. Works perfectly with the pair of polks I have in the front and back. Creates a warm, clear sound. Was very surprised at the tuner - comparable to the pioneer's. I was skeptical of the 20 bit DAc sound compared to the 1 bit, but the minute you stick in that cd, you'll immediately notice the difference.

Weakness:

doesn't read cd-r's as well as my old pioneer 3100, but that's about it. just buy quality cd-r's and take care of your cds and you'll be all right.the clarion is much more skip-ready when it comes to reading scratched cds.

Simply put, this is the best cd receiver you can buy for the money. you can't get a HU with 20 bit DAC in any other receiver of any other brand for less.

Similar Products Used:

better than pioneer sound, more powerful than clarion and less skippy, a notch or two above alpine in all respects. Don't know about the eclpise.
