Strength:

multicolor display barely ever skips looks great chics dig it cd text display its own sub control

Weakness:

display hard to see in bright light a lot of people tried stealing it

i LOVE this head unit,it reads every cd clearly and almost NEVER skips, even going over railroad tracks, and my blazers shocks are shot. i would recommend this stereo to anyone looking to buy one, its looks great 24/7 and all the girls love it. the sub contol thing is great, you can turn the sub power up and down and leave the rest of the volume the same. the problem is the volume control, i would rather spin a knob then hit the button

Strength:

-Very attractive -CD Text -Multi Color Display -Remote -Plenty of Pre-Outs including dedicated Subwoofer Out -Lots of Power -Spectrum Analyzer -3D Surround effect adds Reverb and other effects

Weakness:

Sometimes difficult to see during the day... thats the ONLY weakness

Kick ass cd reciever!!! I have owned several high end cd players and this is the best one. It also allows for plenty of expansion with Aux inputs and other features.

Model Reviewed: 2001 701u

Strength:

-3d display (sweeet!)
-fixed problems the 700U had:
~replaced 3DSB with SHDB (super high definition bass)
~disable aux (from source selection [i don't use it that often])
~attenuation (not only mute)
~different source volumes
~no glare

Weakness:

[unfortunately, panasonic couldn't get everything right]
-battery drainer (because of the display and the additonal bass my subs can now put out [the latter is not really panasonic's fault =)])
-gold accents (i prefer silver)
-funky looking buttons
-removal of direct track access (preset radio stations are accessed differently too)
-removal of disc naming
-removal of multicolor display
-simple tasks are time consuming (because of the menu driven system)

the 701u is the best bang for the buck i can think of but it does have its down points. 1st, it doesn't have cd text. no biggie but i would really enjoy this feature. 2nd, the sound can't be shaped enough. bass, treble, and sub volume doesn't really cut it. if it had easy eq/separate front and rear bass and treble control (pioneer) or system e's+ (kenwood) the deck would be untouchable. i could always get an eq anyway. finally, the display could be sharper, have more colors, and more screensavers but it does have one of the biggest displays currently so it's a trade-off basically. so all in all, there are no glaring faults with this deck. it does everything it was designed to do very very well. it could do a lot more but be prepared to play a lot more too. dollar for dollar it does not get much better than this!

Strength:

Very cool silver color w/ blue displays at night. Sub-out a definite plus. Aux inputs and cd naming (fun to play with).

Weakness:

Can't read display on a sunny day. No equalizer.

A bit pricey if bought new. Display needs to be worked on by panasonic, very annoying if you can't read display. Looks great, complements from all passengers. Sub-out lets you have direct control over the sub. Have yet to hook up something to the aux inputs, but will soon.

Strength:

looks at night and in shade. great power. 3 preouts are nice. instant track selection is cool and its very sturdy. dropped my face about 10 times and my dumbass friend spilled soda on it but its works just as good.

Weakness:

if sun is on it you can see $h!t. but if you know your buttons you get used to it. nothing else

great deck especially if you can get the deal i got. easy install and good power. plus chicks love the nights display.

Strength:

It looks awesome at night. THe sides glow a really cool looking blue. Good power. Overall good deck.

Weakness:

Can't see the display during the day.

I bought this deck 1.5 months ago and I love it. It looks really good at night. I can't see the display during the day though. I have the same problem as the other guy during the day. THe mirror finish makes it impossible to see things with direct sunlight. Maybe mines a defect also. I'm running JBL 4" components in the front and Alpines 6.5 in the rear. I'm running 2 Kicker impulses in a sealed box with a US accoustic amp 2 X 150. The deck has more then enough power to power the speakers. Probably going to pick up 4 channel V12 amp but that's in the future.

Strength:

Looks fantastic at night, like nothing else. The amp has a lot of juice, can go real high and stay clean. The build quality is as high as some decks I've seen that cost twice as much or more. It has too many great features to mention, for the price, this thing is a steal.

Weakness:

Like the last guy mentioned, the display cannot be seen at all in direct sunlight, and is very weak in the daytime. Also, mine has horrible radio reception, but that might be a problem with my car somehow.

I recommend it highly, its looks cannot be beat, not to mention the amazing sound quality (5v pre-outs!). For the features you get, like the awesome day/night design, sub out, and slick remote, it is the best bargain I can think of.

Had a pioneer before which was a great deck too, but its looks were like a brick compared to the 700.

Model Reviewed: 2000

Strength:

The power it puts out is great. 23 X 4 RMS (45 X 4 peak) really sounds good. It has a strong tuner The three pre-amp outputs @ 5V with one being a sub output is really helpful now that I have two amplifiers in my stereo. Looks great at night.

Weakness:

I can't see the display for s*** during the day. The mirror finnish of the display reflects back so much light you cannot see it. It is supposted to turn off the mirror look when the reciever is turned on but mine doesn't. My face must be defective to say the review before me made a special point to say he can see his well. It can be seen clearly at night. Other than just what I have found with my face, it's great.

Over all this is a great reciever. It has a powerful amplifier, strong tuner, fast CD player and looks great at night. The 3DSB doesn't sound very good with the way my speakers are layed out. The 3DSB creats a definite stereo sound and low passes the rear channels. I have this in my 88 Ford Ranger supercab. My back speakers came with the truck which are Clarion 5 X 7s don't and they don't have much to the low end but they have clear highs (the 3DSB is kind of pointless with these). My dash 4" are factory and distort bad past half volume with all this power. I have a USAcoustics amp 2 X 50 on my door speakers which are alpine 6 1/2 and need to be replaced. They are 6 years old with paper cones which are starting to rott not to mention they can only handle 30 watts RMS (I am putting 50 through them). I am thinking about getting a pair of Infinity Reference for 100. For the Sub I have one MTX 6000 10" which is powered by a MTX 250D (125 X 1) amp (it really puts out 170 X 1 @ 12.5V which was tested at the factoy. MTX tests every amp and sends the results). This reciever sets in nicely with the rest of my stereo. I want a changer to go along with it but I can't aford it all. Since it is now discontunued you better buy it fast or you'll miss out on it. Crutchfield has for only 300 and they give you a free kit worth up to $25.

It can't even compare with the sony that came with my truck. It was a cheep model that had 4 X 20 Peak with one channel burnt out and the display was about half burnt out. One of the main reasons to why I bought a new one was so I could see the display for mainly the clock or see what it was doing at that time.
