Strength:

Network 3-way crossover.

Weakness:

NO mp3 folder viewing, slow mp3 next track play (if press next). But CDs are lighting fast.

This is the best deck Pioneer EVER made. It is made in Japan, unlike the newer models sold today (made in China). I personally think that the 2003-2004 Alpines (featuring Bass Engine Pro) copied these features from Pioneer's Network 3-way crossover (losers). Hey, Pre-amp outputs @6.5 Volts at 100ohms is excellent too! This deck is feature-rich. Let's cut through the bull and I'll tell you the real features you'll use: -the 13-band adjustable eq (all bands are adjustable + or - 6db). Customize your sound specifically, not just with basic 5-band parametric eqs, that's not detailed enough--use 13 seperate bands. -Seperate front, rear high-pass filters -Subwoofer filter (low-pass) with phase-selection and level-ajdustment (24 level which is very good for extra fine-tuning the output of the sub). -Loudness (on or off)--very helpful in making your current sound sound fuller and stronger (Alpine doesn't have this!). -BBE (+/-4 level)--makes sound sharper and brighter (guitars and snares/vocals). -Digital Soundfields (4-modes of DSP) NOT FOR ME THOUGH! -But most importantly, the NETWORK 3-way crossover (switch is located on the side of the deck--must take out deck to switch it): -The 3-way Network crossover works like so: It turns your front speakers into the high pass channel (all the tweeter and some slight vocals are sent to the front). This smoothens the soundstage dramatically than having regular sound traveling to your fronts, trust me, I've switched bwetn 2-way crossover and 3-way crossover. By looking at the organic EL display on the Pioneer deck, you can see how the graph of this front channel spreads/"cross-over" through to the middle freequencies. You can adjust its frequecy crosspoint (how much you want your front mids and tweeters to cross into the vocal and midbass frequencies). The level (volume) of the front mids and tweeters can be adjusted and well as turned-off (MUTE), and if the sound sounds strange, use the PHASE to compensate for the sudden loss in musical harmony. Most importantly, it uses a realistic selectable slope of 8db/ or 16db/ per octive. At 16db/octave, and frequency-cut off point of 12.5khz of 16khz, there is absolutely NO vocals or mid-bass coming to your tweeter section, just pure tweets. -the rear speakers are turned into the mid-bass channel. there is the Low-mid and Hi-mid setting that can be adjusted individually. Both their levels can be adjust from 0-24db as well, as well as their Phase and be Muted to fine tune one section of speakers at a time, and there is a 0db, 6,12,18db/octive to fine tune your frequency cut-off pionts (this is very helpful, as if you use the 6db setting, slight mid-bass can get into your rear speakers, but at 18db, the bass is dead cut off. There is NO need to get fancy with 24db/octave cut-off (for what? The music is totally controlled already The Network also has a Low-Pass setting for the Subwoofer channel (with adjustable frequencie cut-off, phase selection, level-adjustment (volume of this channel), and MUTE). This is about it with this deck.

Strength:

It has ever feature you need for total sound quality.

Weakness:

Can't think of a single one.

This is the most beatutiful head unit I could have bought. It has everything you can possibly need for running a high end sound system including an indepedent front/rear high pass filter, a 13 band graphic EQ (which separatley would cost over $100) and most impressivley a time alignment mode which creates an incredibly balanced sound where you can't hear the back or the front speakers reaching your ears at different - a truly amazing feature. It's price definitley matches it's quality. If I had bought it in a store for almost $900 it still would been well worth it. It also features a 3 pair of 6 volt preouts sending out the cleanist, most beautiful signal imaginable.
