Strength:

Nice unit before it wears out.

Weakness:

The rubber overlay for the buttons.

This seems like a weak unit for Pioneer. Simply because of all the complaints about the buttons. In newer models they have replaced the rubber overlay which wears out. I was given this unit because it stopped working. I found the faceplate ribbon connector bad. I have that on order Part # CNP5383 priced at $9.74. My other issue was the faceplate which I already mentioned. You can get the front grill which is the overlay, buttons, display cover, etc... for $45.15 part number CXB4094. Goto http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/index.asp and buy the parts.

Strength:

Numerous features, numerous outputs, removable face, nice looking, Seperate sub-woofer controls, etc etc

Weakness:

The rubber coating on the volume and selection knobs wore off to the point the radio looks like a K-mart special. I can no longer lower the volume on the unit as the pin behind the rubber cover popped out. Come on Pioneer..you can do better than that.

Great Unit. Great features

Strength:

cd player never skips and it is in a Ford F250 with extra leaf spring and load range E tires. It rides tuff. EZ EQ is nice. Like the adjustable 3 band equalizer, however you should not need an EQ. You should like the sound it has without having to adjust it to your likings.

Weakness:

Had it almost a year and a half and had to have it fixed twice. Never a cd player problem. It is an electronic control problem. Need a servic contract with this one. I have one and if I did not this baby would have cost me another $190 to keep it going in repairs. Also buttons look awful after being used a little, they wear out.

Would be an excellent unit if durability was there. A lot of functions for the money. Offers more than any other one out there. Big display is nice. Have to get used to the flip down face, I will never buy another flip down faceplate.

Strength:

I love all the power and precise sounds the unit puts out. Has all the features and then some, that I would ever use. I enjoy all the different colors on the unit. Very easy detatchable face to remove.I like having an remote, it keeps your eyes on the road and not look down to push the button all the time. User friendly, 2 year warrenty Great all around unit. Neither one of my pioneer cd player ever skipped, just as long has you keep your cd's cleaned. You will never have a problem. Picks up all local station, great crisp music. The 2000 premier cd players have the back-lit display. No worries.

Weakness:

Hard to see in the sun but who really looks at the cd player in the day-time, you should know your music, lol, I guess it could use a back lit display but other than that nothing

I only payed $235 because I bought it as a display unit and it was the last one. Full Warrenty, so who cares. I love my purchase

Strength:

great features i love the built in equalizer. it has plenty of power to get your speakers rocking. the three high power preamp outputs (one designated to sub control) make it extremely easy to create a monster system. it comes with a remote so you don't have to reach forward and push any buttons on the dash. very good skip protection. can be used with cd or md changer. flip down face looks cool and makes room for more graphics.

Weakness:

with all the features this unit contains it is not very user friendly. with some practice it was not difficult to master. the remote control that comes with this unit is atiny piece of junk. pay $25 and upgrade to a nice one that can mount to your center consol. some of the features most people will never use. such as the built in alarm or some of the supertuner features.

I have a great friend at a stereo shop so I only paid $200 but I would be willing to pay full price for this deck. I had mine installed last fall and I have been very satisfied with the sound quality and the features this deck has to offer. I have added a rockford four channel amp and the new infinity kappa perfect high end speakers. It sounds magnificent. Having the three preamps made it a snap to change amps( I needed more power) plus with all the wiring in place install charges are minimal. I also have been very impressed with the skip protection as well. I had the opportunity to test it on a harsh mountain road at high speeds and it never faultered. I have a jeep cherokee in which the dash is located more than arms length away. I have the upgraded remote(credit card remotes are crap) which only cost me $25. This remote allows me to use any feature without having to lean forward and take my eyes off the road. However I highly recomend changing the more complicated features when you are parked. I can change cd's, tracks, adjust the equalizer and volume without even looking in the direction of the unit. The upgraded remote mounts easily to your center consol and looks good too. good luck keeping track of the provided credit card remote. My friend at the shop would not let me buy the next model up the p-700. For a hundred bucks more you get rsn and the upgraded remote. RSN is a radio signal system which most cities do not have so it is a waste of your hard earned cash.

Strength:

Power, sound control, many features, small faceplate(when removed), thin remote

Weakness:

not as flashy as other models (considered gettin panasonic day night instead)

Definitely worth the $250 i paid for it, i love the clear sound i get from it. Sounds a lot better than my old clarion deck and it has the superior control over the sound found in other pioneer decks. It has the same features as the 8000r, but just without the 3-d effects that I didn't have an extra $300 to shell out for. I would recommend this deck to anyone looking for a $300 and under deck because it is far better than any sony, jvc, or anything else for that price.

Strength:

First, excellent sound. Second, features I have found very useful (parametric equalizer and several outputs are great). I am using this unit with a subwoofer and a dedicated amp. Front and rear channels have plenty of power without an added amp. The tuner pulls in stations better than others I have used (I live in a very rural area).

Weakness:

In a word: complexity. This receiver has a vast array of features (many which are not apparent until you read the manual carefully). I think Pioneer has done a good job of simplifying things but they are still daunting at first. Most of these adjustments will have to be made only when you are setting up the unit for your car. The day-to-day adjustments are easy to understand. I actually use the remote control to control the unit most of the time. This can be done without taking your eyes off the road after very little practice.

This receiver will provide excellent sound quality and an incredible amount of control over your system. Subwoofer output and high power for the front and rear channels are a good combination. I have used this receiver for 3 months and have no complaints at all.

Strength:

Strong and clear sound (you can forget the amp)
Feature 'Easy EQ' is very good
Full of features (i.e. FIE, DISC NAMING, etc.)

Weakness:

Menu settings are too difficult to use, if you want to set a simple parameter (pause, repeat, etc) you have to push several buttons.
The tuner(FM/AM) has not Scan features

I bought this unit at Crutchfield.

This unit is full of features and parameters, but the design to use them is too poor.

The tuner is empty of options like station/preset scan, station storage (the station you want).

an Audio Enthusiast

I just got this "pioneer premier" CD receiver last week for 230 dollars and it seems to be a high quality head unit.
PROS:
Preset equalizer selections.
Three 5 volt preouts.
Built in LPF for sub-out and HPF for the rest of the speakers (can be bypassed.)
Built in alarm system.
23*4 watts RMS.

CONS:
Display is full of eye-candy which makes it look cluttered.
Hard to find controls for different features, but i guess it can't be helped because this head unit has so many features.

The only thing i'm not sure of is if the sound quality is as good as the sound quality from brands, but I think all head units sound like ass anyway so I'm not too worried about that.
