Strength:

User freindly and two pream outputs, thats nice.

Weakness:

Lots of weeknesses. When my amp really hits my volume will adjust itself up. My voulume knob went eratical to adjust after 3 monthes. My drive is going and has terrible sound quality. Sometimes it will eject my cd and sometimes it won't. Don't buy this its a major rip off. My first deck I ever had(Road Gear) was just as good in my opinoun!!

I paid 154$ for the unit new. It was a worse investment than my road gear. Don't buy this peice of crap. Take my word, sonner or later somthing will go wrong faster than other products!!

Strength:

The Volume Knob.. and the d-bass... it really puts alot of extra bass to it. Its very nice with some sub woofers to it. Its also got 2 pre amp outputs. Its very nice if u want to have a High power system. Nice play in cd r

Weakness:

40w*4 amd mpt 45 or 50*4. but 40 is still high power

I paid $129 dollars at an outlet mall for it, the original price is $250.. I got a Great deal. U can get it from crutchfeild for $235. This Reciever is a great reciever and is virtually flawless. Its a Great high power of 40*4 and really kicks when u use the d-bass. You also get to choose from 3 levels of the d-bass. It comes with a detachable face, and where i live i need it. This will probably keep those thievin people from your stuff. If u don't need the detachable i suggest a lower model number. Its got a very nice volume knob also so u don't need to wait as long to raise the volume. If u have 2 amps u can use them too with the great 2 pre amp outputs. This is overall a very great cd player. U defininatly should buy this one!

Strength:

- Read CDR's fine.
- Turnable knob seemed like a good idea if it didn't break.

Weakness:

- HORRRIBLE quality.
- Every time you eject the cd the unit turns off.

Bought from crutchfield for 229$ I think on sale.
I used it for awhile and it worked fine. Then the volume knob started behaving eraticly. THEN the deck refused to read any cds. I waited two months for the authorized sony repair people and sony themselves to fix it they finally just sent me a new one after I complained alot. Then less than one month after that, the new one refuses to recognize cd's and the warranty is over - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Strength:

D-bass nob, digital read out, sound quality, control button placement

Weakness:

nothing

$220 (CDN) I would recomend this deck to any one that is intersested in puchasing a cd player. The sounds is great, the design of the deck and the placement of the control buttons is excellent. The D-bass control is kicking, One flick of the switch and you good great bass and three levels to choose from. I have 4 5x7 Exclipse speakers, the sound is so clear. If you purchase one you will not be disapointed.

Strength:

Great controls, amp outputs, and good tuner

Weakness:

seemed to need to be turned up really loud to hear good. (not a big deal though)

I paid only 199.99 for this model at Circuit City on sale. overall this system has served me VERY WELL... I really like this system, and has been a good investment. Some things that

I didn't like were the detachable faceplate... i tend to like fold-down plates more, but thats just being nit-picky.

Strength:

-good bass
-3 fm presets
-2 sets of pre-amp outputs

Weakness:

-shuts off when ejecting a cd

I went out to my local car audio store wanting to buy a decent cd player, the price was a little high so i showed them an ad from sears and they lowered the price down to &179.Ive had it for about 2 days now and everything works ust fine. If your looking for an excellent cd reciever with add on options this is the one. Everything sounds crystal clear with my alpine speakers which i also bought there, the bass is excellent for 40 watts max and this thing has some pretty good kick when turned up all the way. It has a detachable face and the d-bass knob is awesome. If you like sony and if you can find a good deal, this is a good choice.
sony's website has some more info if you wanna look.

Model Reviewed: CDX-4180/1997?

Strength:

Reasonable resistance to vibration, good remote control, double line-outs and a clear, easy to use front panel. It does turn itself off when ejecting a cd but turns itself right on when inserting a new one, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Weakness:

The volume knob is poor quality and you have to push it gently while turning, otherwise it will behave erraticly. Or you could use Sonys excellent remote control. CD-R reading is so-so, only about half the tested CD-Rs work flawlessly. Feels slower when its cold (codler than -20C). I have not experienced any skipping, though.

Decent looking, typical cd-player with 2 line-outs, RDS and a remote control option. No extra goodies (like CD-text, changeable coulours etc.).

This is my first CD-player, but it seems like a typical cheap japanese player compared to some other cheap japanese CD-players I have seen.
