loud, clarity.

Weakness:

cd player durabilty.

i must start buy saying owning this receiver for the first year was a very nice joy, people thought that i had atleast a 400watt amp tied to it with exlpod 6x9's but i didn't just factory olds acheiva 6x9's in the rear and 4x6 in the two front doors. but little to my suprise this model would become to be the worst investment in my life on one fine day it suddenly stop playing cd's if that wasn't sad enough bestbuy recommended that i paid for a 2yr warranty that they didn't stand behind, they claim they didn't have me in the system which i knpw was a hoax because they had me signed a computerized signature box. bottom line i think bestbuy knew this system was crap! and had to get it out of inventory!

Strength:

-Rarely skips (and this is with -30C Saskatchewan winters) -7 Band EQ -Rotary volume -Good tuner

Weakness:

-Mediocre sound quality -Nasty glare (impossible to see well during the day) -Borderline ugly -No track time features at all! (ie. track time remaining, album time, album time remaining - pretty lame, Sony) -Can't skip up from last track to track 1 (you know, so you have to skip back through the whole album to get back to track 1 - again, totally lame Sony)

I got this deck because it had a good price/performance ratio. But now after owning it for a year and finding so many things that I don't like about it, I must say I got hosed. I certainly could've gotten a much better deck for the same price. I don't wanna generalize their whole product line based on 1 very poor model in the lower end, and for all I know their upper end models could be excellent. But just because of the negative things I've found with this model, I'll probably never buy a Sony again.

Before this I owned a '96 Blaupunkt Atlanta. I got it for pretty much the same reasons, good price/performance ratio. Well, I liked the Blaupunkt a hell of a lot more than this piece of junk. It also

After removing it from one car and installing it to another, the cd player stoped working and went completely dead. While it was working, it was very good quality.

Strength:

Generally good performance all around.

Weakness:

The 2.5 Volt pre-out. I wouldn''t reccomend this to a person planning on building a serious system.

Overall, this deck does a passable job. The EQ is nice, easy to use, and all the standard features and options. Great for a starter deck/cd player. 52 watts x 4 puts out its share of power, but be careful of the pre-out. I got deck and put in 4 5-1/4" (2 alpine, 2 pioneer) speakers with co-axial tweeters. It definately does everything I need it to. Reasonably clear audio, but it will distort if it gets too high. The biggest problem is the pre-out... 1 2.5 Volt. I picked up a Rockford 1000.1 amp and now I need to get a deck with a 4 volt pre-out at least for the bass to be optimal. Bottom Line: Pick this up if you don''t plan on expanding your stereo. It''s fine for your standard music listener.

Model Reviewed: 2001 Sony L550

Strength:

- Looks! - Multi-colored screen - Quick load and playing when CD is inserted - Removeable face with case

Weakness:

- Remote not included - Like all removeable face CD players...the face moves alittle bit when attached to the CD unit. - Not more made

This is a great CD player for the money. I have had two Sony decks, includin'' this one and I have been very satisfied with both of them. This one, not only looks cool and matches black interiors well (which hides it easily, makin'' it not so prone to theft) but is very easy to learn and functional. It has the CD text and Track text features too. The removeable face reliefs you of worry when you have to park your vehicle in ghettos or what not. CD RARELY skips due to road conditions...unless you hit like a 3 foot deep pothole in the road or something.

Strength:

Great price, Great sound, Great features.

Weakness:

The display is kind of tricky when looking straight at it since vw decided to put the reciever console so high up.

I recently bought this deck, installed it right away and I was hooked from the begining. The first reason I chose this deck was because its red and my car color is to so I need it to match. At such a good price there are a bunch of features, My favorite being the 7 band eq. They have a buinch of presets like rock, vocal ect, but the thing that amazed me was u can actually adjust and save your own custom eq with seven bands and with +10db that is very cusomized. The sound improved so much over the blaupunk that came with the car. The only thing my old kameleon did which i wish this sony did was name cd''s. it dose have cd text however. A lot of people gtalk bad about sony explod but I think with such personable sound and high power at the low price is ubeatable
